  1. I've had mesh appear inside out before being re-rezzed. Dissapearing face by face, until taken back into inventory while texturing.

As far as I can tell, it's just the viewer being crabby.

I had the right-click-to-see-mesh problem for a while myself, it hardly happens anymore. If I recall it was one of the things that stopped happening so much when I reduced my maximum bandwidth to way lower than my connection speed. Something about that seemed to fix an awful lot of stuff not appearing properly for me.

Still can't see some sculpts properly sometimes until I've been on a sim for a few minutes. Off-sim decor looking like a huge green UFO for a few minutes is just a part of my reality.

I'd love to start a thread about the upcoming total eclipse of the sun in April, hear about what other residents of second life will be doing, but of course that is totally forbidden, because It's not about second life

Yeah, see, I think a lot of people would like (aside from politics and religion, because fights) to be able to post about things "out there", even just to see how others "in here" are relating to them. Especially if it's stuff that people can participate in regardless of geographical location. Like, sure, maybe the running of the bulls in Spain is completely off-topic, but things like major events that everyone can relate to, well, sometimes people in SL have their own takes on these things as well, and takes that are interesting from the standpoint of a resident of SL.

But even junk like someone posts about whether they like soccer (football) or not, really. Even people who disagree about politics, religion, and Second Life sometimes find their common ground in such things sometimes, and the more people find they have in common, the less they tend to act like unfeeling automatons or worse to one another.

Because maybe just a little bit of ordinary chatter and socializing might not be so harmful. Maybe.

A healthy body often even includes a spleen, for that matter. The Peeve thread is one of the most popular. Everyone needs to spit up some ugh now and then. It's part of a healthy forum, I think, having at least one designated place for things "nobody else" wants to see.

EDIT: And I get that football (soccer) was a bad analogy for people getting along with one another. I did say earlier I was making more coffee.

  3. Peeve: Taking forever to complete a project because I have to actually make it look good, and that takes hard work sometimes.

It's just a big pile of ivy, with some smaller piles of ivy, with some streamers of ivy connecting them.

It's just some flops of mesh, hardly even a couple dozen triangles.

But painting the damned IVY... Leaf. By. Leaf. Sucks.

Making custom brushes only helps so much, because I don't want a pile of repeating patterns that look like someone used a brush. I want it to look like ivy.

    Sigh.

    This one? Garden of Whimsy?

I don't think HTML tags really work here, at least not in posts. You can use the Other Media tab to post images via URL, though.

I usually just upload pics as attachments, but the URL option is nice.

    Also, Whimsy rawks. Just saying.

  5. In my humble opinion, I believe this forum would benefit from having a garbage section.

It might seem like it's more to moderate, but giving people a section of the forum for when they are bored and feel like discussing off-topic things is, in my experience, a beneficial thing.

I see users who are bitter about the forum being about what it's about, and wishing they had more freedom to simply talk about whatever. When there is no off-topic section on a forum, there is nowhere for any of that to go, and it bottles up, and people leak off-topic and bitter and all sorts of things all over the place, to the detriment (read, derailment) of otherwise interesting threads.

When there's nowhere for this stuff to go, it leaks all over. When there's a section for it, even if that section sees little activity because nobody wants to start a topic in the "trash" forum, it does seem to lessen  the amount of it in other topics.

    Just a suggestion.

EDIT: I see an emoji. Let me clarify.

Every (other) successful and healthy (yes there are healthy forums) forum I've ever participated in has had a Spam, Garbage, Off-Topic or Trash forum.

General isn't usually inclusive enough, as forums tend to have an overall topic of common interest, and subtopics or subsections of related things, and so forth, and then things in a General section tend to either get a bit spammy or get derailed, as it is closest to being "off-topic".

Having a dedicated section to either move derailed/mutated topics to, or to start off-main-theme topics in is a good thing, I think.

Even letting people make threads about TV shows.

Just saying, it's worked at other places, and people can always just point at the "off-topic" forum instead of getting upset by things veering off-topic. It works.

At least I've seen it work.

I myself would like it, too.

  6. Being quoted in such a way is really obviously someone chippin' the shoulder at me.

Peeve: People chippin' the shoulder at me, possibly for mentioning that this forum isn't supposed to be Facebutt.

But, as I always say, it's okay to be different. It's even okay to be misunderstood.

Nobody has to be nice to other people. It's the internet, after all.

Bonus Peeve: People proving me right, over and over again, but only when it's something poopy about human nature that I was right about.

Here you go. In case anyone needs it. I don't know if all viewers have this, but Firestorm does, at least.

Select all faces with the texture, choose Planar as the mapping option, and then tick the checkbox, "Align planar faces".

The texture on the faces will then align at the same scale and rotation, etc. as the first face selected. Or was it the last face selected?

I'm not logging back in just to find out, lol. Anyway, this is a useful thingy.

I deliberately rotated, misaligned, etc., the texture on the leftmost of the three faces, prior to selecting the faces and ticking the box. They automatically matched. It's easy.

All good and thanks! I've changed my mind a bit and have changed out a building (the one with the cellar basement) and scrapped the subway, so can simply use a single 32x64 prim at this point.

I know you already found a way around the problem, but there is a feature in the Edit window (not inworld right now so I can't find it and screencap it) that allows you to set prims to align textures automatically to match the ones around them. It auto-scales/rotates textures so they match up at the edges and everything.

I had trouble finding it without help at first, but it's proven invaluable on a couple of occasions.

When I find it I'll post more info, logging in (again) now to do so. It's a really useful thingy.

  10. Honestly, I think the future of education is wherever those seeking to learn can find it.

    As it has always been.

Trying to find a place for something to have a future is like having to host weekly revival meetings to keep something alive. There is no future in that.

Finding ways to spread knowledge that can't be corralled into potential dead ends (like universities, etc) is probably better.

Maybe take up writing comics. At least people will always like comics.

To stop me paying to advertise an event that doesn't exist on YOUR land, in YOUR name, to make YOU look bad.

This is so true. If not for the restriction I can totally see people doing that, even just to see if it had the desired results.

Like ordering 50 pizzas and sending them to someone, knowing that when they can't pay for it all, they'll get banned by the pizza place.

Or sending a SWAT team to crash someone's pool party.

There's usually a good reason behind any restriction that's in place in any system.

Peeve: People complaining about a SL place they never went to, & have no intention of going to, why waste your energy.

Because they're trying to harm it, and think people don't notice.

Words are all most people online have to use in order to influence things, so they talk a bunch of trash about whatever they don't like, because that's how you get other people to not like things.

    At least that's the logic.

I know that when I myself have talked trash about certain places, my intent (my fondest wish, in fact) was to see them burn. I would presume others do so for the same reasons.

Whether it's justifiable or not is a different question, and we have to answer it for ourselves, I guess.

I generally only talk trash about places that normalize the objectification of children, myself. Others have their own motives, probably.

  13. I had a vendor send me an IM telling me to leave a new review, as he had relisted the item to get rid of my bad review.

He didn't ask me, he told me.

I responded by reporting the listing, and it was removed within 5 minutes.

    Because f**ck that guy.

I've also had vendors thank me for being honest in my reviews. Even just the other day, when I logged on to upload something. They were very pleasant.

In return, for my part, I always try to offer the best service I can, even a week late, and even on a freebie.

Best you can do with a review is just to be honest about the experience you've had with the product. Anything else, and they can rightfully say it's being made personal. Even if they're rude, just be honest in reviewing what your experience with the product was.

In fact, especially if they're rude. Let their reactions speak for them, not you. People eventually find out who is a schytbird and who isn't. No need to get the schyt on yourself as they fly by.
