Be glad that they didn't (yet) accept/use my suggestion .... You'd then have the option of something that belongs in the Medieval Age (or an appropriate Medieval Fantasy novel).

Oh now that would be interesting to me since I am very interested in the Medieval Age and Medieval Fantasy novels.

Resident suggestions given to them at the beginning when they had a contest.

How does one make a suggestion on names? Do LL still accept name suggestions?

Thanks for all the replies. It is really appreciated.

  3. Jealousy is a very weird thing. It must be talked about between the people involved wether it is real life or second life. The avatars have living, breathing people behind them. Many people, males & females believe that having sex in SL is cheating. It is not porn.

If you were "caught" then, to me, it means you felt like you were cheating too. My advice is to always be up front about SL or any other virtual social community with your partner, wife, husband, girl friend, boy friend, what ever.

My husband and I both are in SL. We have rules for our behavior here. We trust one another and their is no jealousy in our relationship. If either of us breaks the rules, we talk it out. It is a matter of maturity, love, and trust. Trust is the biggest issue. We both know that neither of us are going anywhere. Plus we keep our SL lives away from each other but we do discuss them often.

  4. I know that Altamura has a free gift with a BoM applier which includes one system female and one system male skin. Tonic Curvy and Fine has a free gift on their counter with a BoM applier but the owner has already updated both bodies and at least one head that I know of that. She sent them out as updates and anyone owning the body or head can get the update redelivered.

Catwa, Belleza and Maitreya have applier and some products updated. I have not checked into them very much to see if they have updated products yet.

  5. I have a homestead and I want someone to come in, terraform the land and build it up in layers for houses and such to sit on. It will be a circular road heading up the side of the mountain with places for houses to sit. I have put an image below of what I would like.

It will need to have some of the roads going up to the top open air, some as tunnels. The houses will be made of a variety of materials and caves will be used for some too. I will buy everything needed to build it but will need help building or have someone build it. Please, send a NC to CendrillaPerrault Resident with ideas and labor costs.

Edit: This will be built on 1/4 of the sim only. Think of it as if their is a mountain there without any or very little flat land to build on. To have a nice size town, it would have to be built up. Think Aztec's, Incan's, and the American Indians in New Mexico. Edit Completed.

Now when you say it doesn’t look right, what do you mean? The whole avatar or just the head?

You should also be aware, not every head is created equal. It’s possible the head you have doesn’t have much wiggle room as far as making a different look.

It can also be the skin. Some skins are so distinctive that you end up looking the same no matter what you do.

Demoing a new skin and head and play with the sliders and see what happens.

ChinRey, hit on it perfectly. After reading her remarks, I realized that the chin and mouth were what were bothering me the most. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. 🙂

You don't see many SL avatars that looks as good as this!!!

There is always room for improvements of course but I think you shold be quite happy with and proud about what you already have done. I especially like the way you've managed to get a proper chin and still keep the overall shape so smooth.

If I have to look for flaws, the mouth is the first I'd mention. Try to adjust the mouth position a tiny bit up and see if that is better. Maybe you could try with a little bit more upper lip too.

Overall, the mouth is very prominent, especially with such a dark lipstick on such a fair skin. It may be a good idea to play with Lip Fullness and Lip Thickness a bit to tone it down so it doesn't steal all the attention from your beautiful eyes.

The nostril shape doesn't look quite right to me but I think that is the mesh head you use, so there's not much to do with the shape sliders. You can try to widen the upper bridge a bit for balance but you have to be very careful or you end up with a too wide and angular nose.

Eye spacing may be a little bit too wide but not much. Be very careful if you try to tweak it.

Personally I would probably have slanted the inner eye corners down a tiny little bit and also made the cheekbones a little bit more prominent but those things are probably more a matter of taste.

The ears are mostly hidden by the hair of course but try to make them a little bit smaller and maybe position them a bit higher.

Edit: about ears: Does top of ears at eyebrow height, bottom of ears between mouth and nose (in height that is) sound about right?

Thank you so much. The chin, nose and mouth are what have bothered me the most. I will definitely try what you have suggested. I love playing with the avatars. That and learning to build houses. I love the Blog. I have been reading through it from the beginning.

  8. This is my avatar. She is wearing the Tonic Sierra Bento head. To me she just does not look "right". I have been working on her for about 2 weeks now and adjust sliders hasn't helped a lot.

I will be using a lot of the suggestions you all have posted and will post an update when I get her looking better. If you have suggestions as to why she does not look "right", I will gladly try them out. I don't even know why she does not look "right" to me at this point.

I actually went and made a brand new blog for this to keep the info here from getting lost in a flood of more recent threads. https://chinrey.blogspot.com/. Now it'll be lost on an obscure blog nobody's ever going to read instead. :P

Edit I added some more content to the blog while I was at it, so here's a permalink to the shape changing post: https://chinrey.blogspot.com/2019/02/body-shape.html

Thank you. I like what you have written. I will be sharing it with some friends that are having problems getting the look they want too. I appreciate your knowledge and especially your willingness to share it with us.

If you or somebody else wants to know how to do it, it's easy: Wear the shape, find the shape in you inventory, right-click on it and select "Edit".

Finding good settings is a lot trickier, as everbody else here have said. A few random tips off the top of my head though:

    1. Mesh bodies and mesh heads alter the proportions significantly, different brands and models in dfferent ways. So if you use mesh body parts, you have to adjust shape to match.
    2. Keep the hand and foot sizes low. For modern female avatar that nearly always mean set those two sliders to 0. For male and old fashioned giantess avatars you may want it a little bit higher, but not much.
    3. Arm size just long enough you can reach your crotch when standing straight. Maybe a little bit longer but not much and certainly not shorter.
    4. If you want a realistic look, your shoulders need to be broad enough so your arms hang naturally outside your hips. (And yes, this is true even for the most pear shaped female avis!)
    5. Adjust Leg Muscles for good looking legs, then Hip Width to get your legs together (without overlapping) and finally Saddle Bags to change the actual hip width.
    6. For realism, keep eye size below 50 but not that much. Around 35 may be a good starting point.
    7. Mesh heads increase the size of the head so if you use one, you need to adjust accordingly.
    8. All common mesh head models from the well known brands have a very prominent "duck bill" mouth. It's not possible to get a really realistic look with one of those but you can minimize the effect by reducing Lip Fullness and Lip Thickness.
    9. For female avatars: Large Breast Size+Low Breast Buoyancy=Silicone Implants
    10. Keep the Lip Width low. At 40 you are already in Julia Roberts territory. (She has a lovely mouth actually but you really don't want to go much wider and most people have considerably narrower mouth than she has.)
    11. Actual torso length depends both on the Torso Length and the Hip Length sliders. Balance those to get your belly button in a sensible place. This may depend on which skin you use which brings me to:
    12. Your basic looks is a combination of shape and skin and different skins may require very different shape settings.
    13. (Edits from here) Lip Ratio should probably be kept below 50. A realistic ratio is usually somewhere between 35 and 40, depending on your skin and the Lip Fullness and Lip Thickness settings.
    14. Mouth Corner: From 60 and upwards you start to get a clown grin. From about 49 and downwards you start to get the dour face that was so popular in SL for a while (and may still be). Stay somewhere between for a realistic looking mouth.
    15. The sliders are not in any way balanced. Do not even think of starting with everything set at 50. If you don't believe me, read this: https://community.secondlife.com/forums/topic/405308-warning-disturbing-pictures-not-for-the-faint-hearted/ (if you dare).
    16. Average RL human height varies a lot between different nations. Wikipedia has a table here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_average_human_height_worldwide. You probably want to go a bit taller in SL since everything else tend to be scaled up.
    17. The height readout you get in the standard viewer's edit window is way off. Firestorm's reading is fairly close to the avatar's actual height inworld.
    18. The sliders that affect overall height are: Height, Head Size, Neck Length and Leg Length but not Torso Length and Hip Length (those two are deducted from Leg Length).
    19. Special for people not familar with metrics (that is 'mericans): https://www.rapidtables.com/convert/length/feet-to-cm.html

This is great. Thank you very much for posting all this.

  11. Thank you all so  much. This is great. I have been sick so was not able to check back sooner. My apologies to all of you.

I will be trying the suggestions and reading the blogs and other information. I highly appreciate this.

  12. Hi,

Back on my very first avatar, I had a lot of trouble adjusting shapes and I sought out a friend of a friend who helped me by having me stand on a pose stand and he told me what areas to adjust and what numbers to put in the slider area.

    Now my questions are:

    1. How did he do this?

    2. Was he using a special software program?

    3. Is there written instructions somewhere?

I have searched and searched. I have read Penny's blog, Catnap Kitty's information, Strawberry's blog, the Golden Rule on SL wiki, and watched videos. I am still, even after 4 years, confused as to how to alter my shape so it is more realistic looking.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

  13. No I am talking about the type of rezzer that holds the entire build. Similiar to the ones that are used to sell skyboxes or houses on the marketplace. I can put the build into it and when I am ready to use it, I can rez it out. I have never heard of a repeating temp rezzer.

I am making a venue for my land for when visitors come to see me. I don't want it permanently on the land. I want it in my inventory and bring it out when I need it. I have an island sim with 30K prims so trying to beat the LI is not the problem. I just don't want to spend the 4 hours of setting it up every time I want to use it. What it has to do with linking prims is that I wanted to link the entire thing but that will not work. So I am going to just link the max I can and store them in my inventory that way.
