  1. Hello Residents! As mentioned in several places this week is going to be particularly packed with rolls. We anticipate having rolls approximately every 12 hours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. What follows is our best guess of what the week will look like, but please note that all times are subject to change or cancellation if our tests find issues, and if we do have issues we can't resolve quickly, we may need to roll back to the current release version 2020-11-19.552571. We know how disruptive all these rolls will be to all of you this week and apologize in advance. We're working hard to get this portion of uplift done as quickly as possible so you can get back to your regular Second Life. Wednesday: Morning: Second Life RC channels will restart between 12:00 PM (Noon) and 3:00 PM Pacific Standard Time. https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-12-01.553120.html Evening: [Update] No roll. Thursday: Morning: [Update] Second Life Server (Main Channel) will restart in the morning, 6 AM - 12 PM Pacific Standard Time. https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-12-01.553120.html Evening: [Update] No roll. Friday: Morning: Second Life RC channels will restart in the morning, 6 AM - 9:30 AM Pacific Standard Time. https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-12-01.553168.html Evening: [Update] No roll. On Region Restarts: There will be a lot of them this week! None of them will be driven by Grid Poking Bot, as the people who are testing Grid Poking Bot will all be busy making sure all the rolls mentioned above work on each of RC and Second Life Server before we move on to the next phase. Watch this space next week for further updates on the Return of the GPB.
  2. Next week we're making a one-time effort that might be somewhat unpredictable. This is a complex, multi-step process to make simulators cloud-aware and then cloud-first for various kinds of in-world objects. This will not be the New Normal. Remaining in the intermediate states would result in degraded performance for Residents. We want to avoid that so we are compressing our schedule as much as possible.
  3. There are not any regions left in the datacenter that are suitable for long or medium term projects. If you are encountering issues on uplifted regions, please file a bug report for each issue you are encountering at jira.secondlife.com
  4. Just to clarify yes, you all are correct that by about 24 hours after this post (and hopefully a lot sooner!) we will have all regions on the main grid in the cloud, except for a couple of regions we're keeping around to help work around issues like BUG-229623 which reproduce in the cloud, but not in the colo.
  5. Second Life Server We will be updating all currently uplifted Second Life Simulator to version 552183. https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-11-12.552183.html Scheduled Wednesday** 2020-11-18 07:00-10:30 PST Second Life RCs https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-11-12.552183.html Scheduled Tuesday*** 2020-11-17 07:00-10:30 PST Additional Rolls We will be moving the rest* of the Second Life Server channel currently running in the datacenter to the cloud running version 552183 Thursday 2020-11-19 07:00-10:30 On Region Restarts The uplifted Grid Poking Bot is running on Aditi, and we hope to move it to Agni as soon as we've run a last battery of tests on it. This doesn't help much for restarting regions this week, but as noted above we anticipate restarting almost all of them as part of this week's rolls anyway. Additional Notes * We will be keeping a few regions (Named "Debug1", and "Debug2") in the datacenter for Residents to use for workarounds to known issues with the Cloud ** We've moved the Second Life Server roll back a day (see below) to allow faster iteration of some high priority fixes; if the fix released to RC Tuesday does what we want, we're open to rolling it to Second Life Server on Wednesday or Thursday. *** We're rolling the RCs first this week to get additional data on how well a change our engineers implemented in the new version works to fix issues Residents have been experiencing in uplifted regions
  6. Could you file this as a BUG report please? I don't think we have one for an issue matching these particulars yet.
  7. Internal networking issues, we think we resolved them all. Please let us know if you find any more instances where region crossing/neighbor regions (not teleports) have problems.
  8. You can haz! I was just exhausted after finishing up the prep work for today's RC roll last night and forgot to make the appropriate forum post, my apologies
  9. Second Life Server https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-11-09.551942.html Deploying version 2020-11-09.551942. Please note not all regions that are in "Second Life Server" will be uplifted this week. We do anticipate this deployment pushing us over the 50% mark for regions in the cloud, however. Will be deployed from 3 AM to 9 AM Pacific Standard Time on 2020-11-11 Second Life RCs https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-11-09.551942.html Updating existing uplifted simulators to 2020-11-09.551942 Will be deployed from 7 AM to 10:30 AM Pacific Standard Time on 2020-11-10 On Region Restarts We are (still) currently in the process of uplifting the Grid Poking Bot that handles automatic restarts for regions with high uptime, so you may not see them this week.
  10. There are two potential causes that occur to me immediately: One is as animats says, there maybe just be more traffic globally right now. I know after a long day in the bug mines I've been refreshing the news non-stop. The other is that we are tracking a bug internally regarding which objects get sent to a viewer when from uplifted regions. I don't believe there's been an external BUG for it yet (the closest we've come to people mentioning it before was a Book Club island where the entire build wouldn't rez unless you right clicked where it should be). If this persists beyond the current flurry of (presumed) internet traffic I would definitely recommend filing a BUG so we can keep an eye on this (hopefully) rare occurrence.
  11. Nope! We're doing two sets of changes this coming week, one on Tuesday to put more regions in the cloud running the code we deployed last week, and another on Wednesday to update the code running some regions already in the cloud with fixes to make startup and shutdown a little bit simpler and not rely on as many things still in our datacenter. And maybe, if we're really lucky, some bug fixes we're testing today as well; will let you all know with a Server Deploy Plan once we have it nailed down.
  12. Second Life Server No roll to Second Life Server this week. Second Life RC We will be moving a couple thousand additional simulators to the cloud during the normal RC window Scheduled Wednesday 2020-10-28 07:00-10:30 PDT Uplifted Simulators We put out an updated version of our cloud-based simulator today to all currently uplifted regions. The release notes for that deploy can be found at: https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-10-26.551155.html (To be clear, these release notes comprise just a small fraction of the changes we had to make to get this far. 90% or more of the effort was things behind the scenes that needed to be changed so that from your perspective, everything works the same.) On Region Restarts This is where you expect me to say that you should expect rolling restarts, right? And it's not out of the question, but we're currently in the process of uplifting the Grid Poking Bot that handles the restarts, so you may not see them this week.
  13. Second Life Server: No rolls are planned for Second Life Server this week Second Life RC: https://releasenotes.secondlife.com/simulator/2020-10-09T06%3A52%3A06.550305.html Scheduled Wednesday 2020-10-14 07:00-10:30 PDT On Region Restarts Regions will be restarted if they have been running for more than 10 days on Tuesday (Main Channel) and Wednesday (RCs) regardless of whether or not new code is being deployed, for the general health and well being of the Simulators. Nothing beats turning it off and then on again ... once in a while.
  14. Second Life Server: No rolls are planned for the main channel this week. Second Life RC: No rolls are planned for the RC channels this week. On Region Restarts Regions will be restarted if they have been running for more than 10 days on Tuesday (Main Channel) and Wednesday (RCs) regardless of whether or not new code is being deployed, for the general health and well being of the Simulators. Nothing beats turning it off and then on again ... once in a while. As always please plan events around these maintenance windows. However, if you are hosting an event on Tuesday or Wednesday when we're not deploying new code, you can restart your region ahead of time to avoid interruptions.
  15. Hello again everyone! It's been a little while since my last major announcement (although Maestro and Oz have hopefully been giving you plenty to chew on) regarding uplifted simulators, but our devs and QA have been hard at work! Today we're happy to announce that we have a preliminary version of Linden Realms up for you to test on Aditi. This new milestone tests several additional facets of cloud based simulators, including LSL Experience Key-Value storage, and LSL HTTP-out, plus many of the standard LSL calls that need to work on cloud based simulators. To get started, you can visit the following Portal Park: secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Portal%20Park/101/155/54 Objectives: Look for differences in behavior, game mechanics, or things that don't work right compared to Agni's Linden Realms. Known Issues: None! Bonus Reminder: We recently put up four HTTP-out enabled sandboxes in the Cloud. Because I'm not very good at naming things they're called: Cloud Sandbox 1 Cloud Sandbox 2 Cloud Sandbox 3 Cloud Sandbox 4

There isn't a new RC this week, we're just getting everything on the same version for now. On Region Restarts Regions will be restarted if they have been running for more than 10 days on Tuesday (Main Channel) and Wednesday (RCs) regardless of whether or not new code is being deployed, for the general health and well being of the Simulators. 19. It was on some channels, but not all. With 545966's release to Second Life Server it is now present throughout Second Life.
  20. 21. Yeah, the issue only affects RC channels; it's a knock on effect from some internal fixes we deployed to RC today.
  22. Hi there everyone! As you may have noticed in my previous announcement, some of the regions we recently brought back online on Aditi are in the cloud! We've now expanded the number of regions we're running in the cloud on Aditi to include the entirety of the Blake Sea mainland regions. For those of you who aren't familiar with Blake Sea, you can use the following entry points to log in on Aditi and rez a vehicle to start exploring. If you're not familiar with Aditi itself, you can learn more here. Entry points: Blake Sea - Japan (secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Japan/207/248/22) Blake Sea - Beagle (secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Beagle/207/208/13) Blake Sea - Mainbrace (secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Mainbrace/211/241/16) Blake Sea - Atlantic (secondlife://Aditi/secondlife/Blake%20Sea%20-%20Atlantic/245/219/16) Objectives: Test region crossing code (particularly using vehicles) between cloud simulators on the same host, and cloud simulators on different hosts. Known Issues: Some regions cause you to "bounce off an invisible wall" at the region border, even though you are able to see into them. Please report instances of this occurring in this thread, with the region you were in, the region you were trying to enter, the date, and the time. Some regions will not show up at the edge of your current region, even though they are adjacent. Please report instances of this occurring in this thread, with the region you were in, the region that failed to appear, the date, and the time. HTTP-out for LSL scripts is disabled on cloud-based regions. Please don't report this, as it is currently working as intended. Sending email via LSL scripts is disabled on cloud-based regions. Please don't report this, as it is currently working as intended.
  23. Topic. Sorry they were down for so long, the host they were running on got confused as to what "running" meant, and as you may infer from our blog post in May we don't have a ton of extra hardware to give the beta grid.
  24. That is exactly why these values are read-only for now. We need to get together new viewer code to make it clear to everyone exactly who and what will be able to hear you when you use various forms of local chat.
