  1. I think you mean this thread. Sadly it's not what I need. I'd like the glass to also look nice without the ALM enabled by using baked textures. Thanks for the suggestion though.
  2. Oops, I didn't mean to post the same thread twice. I got an error when I tried posting the other thread and assumed it didn't get posted. Feel free to delete this duplicate thread.
  3. Accidental duplicate thread please delete.
  4. How do people bake realistic glass textures for glass objects such as wine glasses and bottles? I tried creating a blue tinted glass vase using the Glass and Transparency shaders in Blender, and exported the baked texture. This is the result in Blender. The left one is set to 1% transparency, and the right to no transparency. As you can see on the left, the transparency makes the vase look as it has been cut in half, showing you the inside of the vase but not also the outside of where the camera is pointing. Here's an example of the result I'm trying to go for. Any tips?
  5. SL makes it so owners can't view No Modify scripts, but it's not the same for notecards. In my case, the notecards show the UUIDs needed for a script which I want to hide to prevent people from simply copying the UUIDs from their friends who own a product and pasting it into their own notecard for the same product that they own themselves. Even if they can't edit the notecard, nothing stops them from creating a new notecard, copying the text from the original notecard, and pasting the contents to the new (now modifiable) notecard. Is there any way to hide notecard contents from owners?

  7. Sorry, my ADD tends to make me skip through walls of text. It's a bad habit.
  8. Ah thanks for letting me know. Would have taken me a while to figure out if I didn't ask.
  9. Thank you all for the advice. I took up ChinRey's advice an used Limit Sell. Opened an order yesterday, and it closed today at 1:30 AM, but I'm not seeing any funds in my PayPal account. Is this normal? I do have my PayPal linked to my account.
  10. A lot of merchants depend on forum traffic. Having signatures disabled by default is a bummer.
  11. I'm a young student that knows nothing about taxes, let alone small business taxes. About half a year ago I started my business here in Second Life and now I've earned a considerable amount of Linden to transfer to sell and make a profit. Before I sell though, what are some important things I should know about taxes, PayPal, and Second Life?
  12. I know little to nothing about scripting, so I'm dependent on full perm scripts. The product I'm working on right now has 9 different prim buttons, and each performs a different function, including texture changing and object rezzing. Instead of having 9 linked objects I'd like to cramp them all into one. Can I create a menu for one prim that opens up a menu with buttons that activate the individual scripts? How would I go about doing this?
  13. Thank you all for the answers. I understand normal maps better now. At first I thought normal maps worked the same for every game engine but looks like I was wrong. I'm now able to create normal maps the way I intended them to look.
  14. I already know about specular maps but thanks for the answer. I'm talking about how the lighting from light sources reflect incorrectly.
  15. Here's the normal map for the first image shown. Had to watermark it to avoid breaking TOS.
  16. I've been trying to understand SL how it uses normal maps. The problem is either the lighting on top and bottom are incorrect, or the lighting on the left and right is incorrect, shown on the pics below. I've been using the image titled "Checking Normal Maps as a reference thinking it was the correct way to create normal maps, but still giving me incorrect lighting. Is SL's advanced lighting module just different from all the others? Is there a guide to using normal maps for SL correctly?

I'm sure I could make more sales if I could get more traffic in (which is what these paid advertisements are supposed to be for in the first place), but I'm slowly losing hope. I'd regard myself as successful. I'm about to give up my rl job and live on my SL income (I have 3 stores under different accounts). When my partner and I started creating and selling back in 2008 we had NO expectations, only a little hope. We made our first sale about a week after listing an item on the old MP called Xstreet. We were so excited. We saw this as huge encouragement. Slowly we noticed people coming inworld to see our stuff. Every step forward was met with unexpected surprise and delight, because we never had high expectations. We were humble. And so, feeling highly encouraged, we continued on. Soon our income was covering the tier for a homestead, then two and then three. Then suddenly we found we had an excess of L$, and could cash out. We were overwhelmed by the success. Now, we both work a lot less and earn a lot more - enough to provide a modest RL income. None of this happened through careful planning, advertising, strategies, marketing or high expectations. It was simply good products, word of mouth, and enjoying every minute of it all. And it takes time for it all to happen. Two sales in a week? You should rejoice, feel encouraged, because it could have been none. Congrats on your success and thank you for your words of encouragement. I'm going to keep working on my store so I can see some decent income generating. Advertising seems to be my main issue at the moment.
  18. So the Features list is now just another search engine keywords list?
  19. What if you have legit criticism, and the vendor chooses to respond with "message me before you review" to a 4/5 stars review?
  20. First time poster here. I haven't had any fantastic results with advertising though Listing Enhancements and SecondAds. It's really disappointing, I spent so much time and invested plenty of money on learning the ropes, creating and adding textures and animations to furniture. I launched my store about a week ago, with a few products. So far I've only made two sales. I'm sure I could make more sales if I could get more traffic in (which is what these paid advertisements are supposed to be for in the first place), but I'm slowly losing hope. My goal was to at least make $20 a week. Wish I knew some better advertising services other than Listing Enhancements and SecondAds. I've also been buying ad space from populated areas. I've read that the marketplace went though a change recently, and many sellers have experienced lower sales because of it. Guess I started at a bad time.
