  1. I have a hard time knowing how old someone is in RL . In SL I don't really think of avatars in specific ages other than- Kid, teen, adult. But that's just based on what sims they are on.

For me I've almost always looked younger than I am. When I was in my 20s I was routinely mistaken for a teenager. The boyfrined I met when I was 23 or so barely even spoken to me at first because he thought I was 17 and he was 28. and I would get carded at R rated movies and things like that.

I have been briefly involved with someone who wanted my avatar too look younger. And by that I mean they wanted me  hips to be sliimmer, my breasts to be smaller, things like that. I didn't do it and ended things. but a lot of the avatars I've seen people claim look  under age have very adult bodies, bodies that don't seem like the type someone who wants to do actual underage stuff with would be into.

  2. Sorry  Ihaven't responded. Work and life has gotten the better of me.

Looks like the computer on Amazon is gone.

I just don't feel comfortable at putting together a computer, I'm not good at that kind of thing (I'm terrible with legos even with the nice little diagrams I still struggle with them) so buying a a computer is just easier.

I've had 2 recommendations from other people:

Follow a few key guidelines and you can't go wrong.

Self build, you get more bang for your buck, it's much easier than you think and is very well documented online, and most importantly once done gives you an easy incremental upgrade path with lots of head room to swap out individual parts one by one over the next few years. Your local PC parts retailer will hold your hand and help you tick all the right boxes, microcenter (if in the US) for the win .. just don't let them sell you an extended warranty. Heck, there are lots of us here who will happily hand hold.

Buying a ready made box is less than ideal .. a little research into what standard off the shelf parts it contains will almost always end in the same conclusion, you got robbed. Perversely, buying 'gamer brand' stuff like alienware just increases the amount of robbery. Friends don't let friends buy alienware.

    1. Pick a case to put it all in, pick something pretty, big, small, whatever you like.
    2. CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 or better. AMD have brought a lot of value to the PC space recently in their efforts to unseat intel's monopoly. Again, bang for buck - this is the core part everything else is built around.
    3. Motherboard (the big circuit board everything plugs into), the list of possibilities will be cut down dramatically by the size of your case and your CPU choice. Pick one that fits the above 2 points, don't cheap out, I personally like Gigabyte brand boards.
    4. 16GB of ram (comprised of 2 8GB sticks). No more, no less. The specific ram will be determined by the above 2 points, just ask "whats the right ram for this". If you have options, faster ram is better and slightly more expensive.
    5. An SSD, doesn't matter if Sata or M.2 or whatever other combination of random letters, end result is the same from a end use perspective, the only practical difference is which hole connects to what.
    6. A power supply, overkill advised (they run happier and longer if not run ragged). Say 750W .. 800W .. Corsair brand.
    7. A graphics card - Spend the rest of your budget here .. I'd say just buy a 2060 Super call it a day.

You will need a copy of windows, either buy a new copy or if you have CD-KEY from any version going back to Windows 7 pro, just download the installer from MS and use that.

Essential accessory - A mechanical keyboard, your fingers will love you.

Best non specialist screens - LG IPS - awesome viewing angles.

Optional upgrades ... a better cooler (the stock one provided with the CPU is fine, not bad, just fine). RGB illumination (nothing says PCMR more than unicorn vomit).

Good youtube channel for  assembly, reviews and guides (and they have a forum too) - Linus Tech Tips (LTT) - bit click baity, but the content is solid.

self building is not an option for me.  I'm not every good at assembling anything and I have the weirdest time getting things to work properly with electronics (seriously it took me an hour one time to get a headset to work and finally a friend did the same thing I was doing and it worked ).  Plus I'm clumsy and have a tendency to accidentally break things.

I have a large monitor, it's older now (about 5 years old I think) but it was a really nice Asus monitor at the time so I don't need a new one. I had a mechanical keyboard and it broke and need to replace it (thinking at christmas).

So any other recommendations since self build isn't an option.

  4. I've had a few issues with this but it's not much different than tp'ing into some place and mesh body parts are flying around all over the place, or my mesh body rezzes first and then my clothes do so for a brief moment of time I'm naked (or other people are naked). It's always interesting trying to figure out - are they really naked or are their clothes just not showing up yet.

I just shrug and chalk it up to SL.. I mean at least I don't have to do anything unlike in the days when you'd tp and find your hair or an earring or shoe attached to your butt and have to take it off and put it on again. And some AOs would cause this weird thing where you're body would fold in half.

Hi, I would note the SLURL of the parcel, log on to your account online, then instead of the Land Page go to Help - Support - on the right hand of the page under Premium Support click Contact Support - at the bottom right corner of the page is a blue "chat" icon between 6 am - 3 pm SLT - do a Live Chat for support...I've never had this happen before, but with other vanished house issues Linden Support has been very helpful and fast  :)

Thanks for the life of me I couldn't remember how to get to support for premium members and I was trying to access this on my phone so I couldn't see everything on the page clearly. Thank you so much.

  6. I abandoned a log cabin yesterday and when you click on the land it shows it is owned by Lindens but when I go to my account and the land page it says that its still mine.

It's been like that since last night and I am not sure what to do or who to contact about getting this resolved

  7. I realy don't have a set style. When I first started in SL  13 ish years ago my wardrobe was heavy on the rockabilly/retro goth/punk look and mainly shopped at Ivalde, Sn@Tch, Artilleri, Thimble , Deviant Kitties , Silent Sparrow, schadenfraude,  Black Maria, Exile with Seven's Wings being my main accessory. Although there was variation in that it was pretty much it. And then I've had alts Iv'e dressed differently.

I also used to rip apart oufits when it was system layers and add on parts- take a top from one thing, take the skirt from a dress and create something new. With fitted mesht he way we have now it's not possible.

Currently there is no set style,  I don't really do more formal looks (not even formal but things like business wear type stuff) and range anywhere from futuristic or fantasy looks to kawaii, punk or casual.  I don't wear a lot of accessories and want to change that and add more in. And I tend toward fantasy skins (mostly Lumae & now Ritual) and mix those with different things. I also have kemono, furry , Tiny, and Dinkie avatars although I don't break them out as much and they tend to be the same kind of way I dress.

I don't have a  clothing or hair store I am devoted to like I was with Sn@Tch  (seriously I owned about 80% of her inventory at one time) but I primarily wear Lumae and Ritual skins.

And I change my appearance a lot, not just my clothes but I have done full change of hair/skin/make up/clothes etc and so on multiple times a day...or I'll wear the same thing like 4 days in a row so it depends. And sometims I like to look more androgynous

To quote the OP "Relay For Life of Second Life, kicks off its 16th season on February 15th at 10am SLT".

It was in the featured destinations so I assumed it was open.

I have been getting IMs about this over on the 2 demo regions.  The people took off their AVSitter and were then able to tp in.  No idea what's up with that, but will IM and ask about it

It finally worked and I walked around some and I'll have to check later . I didn't mean to wander in when it wasn't open to the public.n

Thank you for starting this thread @MillyWHtars with aged 40+ 'typists' can dress any ages that they like, it's part of the freedom of SL. However, it is much harder to filter out and find stylish outfits for those who want to either look their age, or age up for role play etc

The Maitreya BOM update gave me inspiration to try some of @MillyWHs ideas with my existing wardrobe, the only new item I bought is the Dream hair from Lamb. The cardigan came from Neve, and the pants and boots from Tetra. I think the vest top was a freebie.

    update rasp_001.jpg

    You look great!

I was playing around with the new body as well and the BOM add ons help reduce the painted on look for clothes so that will help with appliers.

  10. If you are using appliers for LAQ then there are several slots available for eyeshadow on the LAQ hud. I think there are 4 (I am going off memory).

To wear more than one applier you click the number check box you want the applier to go and then apply it.

So you can out eyeshadow on 1 and then click 2 and put eyeliner.

However layering appliers like this can cause flickering this is a problem with doing any kind of applier layers.

If you are using BOM you just add the layers from your inventory. But you may need to play around with the order you add them so one layer doesn't hide the other.

  11. I don't really dress like this in SL so I don't want to invest my SL resources into a blog. Otherwise it would be a blog or me wearing demo clothes or skins.

If people are looking for a more mature skin LAQ is a good place. They have the mesh head that is specifically made to be older....like 60s. But there are some of their  older system skins that would work for those who don't do mesh or want to try the skins as BOM with their own mesh head. One that is the same age range and another that looks 40s or 50s.

Izzie's has a skin more suited for elderly, I would peg it as 70s or 80s. It is pre mesh body but also comes with a shape. Izzie's also has appliers for several heads for wrinkles and to make eyebrows grey etc so that someone can vary how old their avatar looks.

Sb@tch is known for club and goth wear but there are some pieces there that have long skirts or is more covered you have to hunt around.

At Fameshed this round Tres Blah has a midi skirt. I think they may have some longer skirts and more every day not low cut clothes.

Alaskmetro recently redid her skins and they look maybe not 40s but more mature than others. She also  has a small selection of clothes like a longer pencil skirt.

Honestly... for my liking, neither of those two looks remotely come close to the air of a 40 years old woman. Perhaps in total of both their ages added together, but well...

Yes, the mentioned store does have nicely casual, neutral pieces which can easily work for more serious and/or older looks. Those shown probably aren't the best example.

Nonetheless... Coco, Valentina E., Belle Epoque, some erratic, PixieMode. !APHORISM! and so on can also provide proper clothes.

So this is the kind of idea I wanted people to do - add places for people to shop. Personally I was going to add a post later with a few more places. I had seen Valentina E at Fameshed and so was going to mention it even though it is not my style in RL or SL.

  13. To clarify I started this thread becuase I've seen other people say they can't find things that would work for them. So I thought other people could post about where they shop and how to put things together. ESPECIALLY since everyone has a different idea of how they want to look if their avatar is mature.

I am not actually doing this for myself, I don't really attribute any age to my avatar and just dress however I want. I'm not saying anyone should dress this way. I am terrible at naming things and naming a thread:

Fashion and Appearance Resources for People Who want their Avatars to look mature (over 40) or to find modest dress - Please share your ideas

Was too damn long of a name.

As for those outfits don't look like what a woman in their 40s would wear. I would wear them and in real life I'm almost 47 but not everyone who is 47 would. I didn't make an avatar with lines or wrinkles on their face because I don't have a good way to do that with mine since it's not something I want to do. Also I routinely get mistaken for being much younger than I am IRL so if I DID want to make an avatar that looked exactly like my RL self I would 1) not have any actual wrinkles but just some fine lines 2) have the avatar with a asymetrical undercut pixie (my RL hair cut) and 3) have sneakers or boots, a pair of skinny jeans and a graphic t shirt since that's what I wear IRL. Also I wouldn't wear make up because I don't wear make up.

I actually pulled inspiration for the first look from women I know my age.

In conclusion if anyone wants to contribute and help people get ideas for how they can make their avatar look older if they so chose awesome especially if you feel you can pull together  looks that are more diverse and show a range of what someone would like to look like.

  14. I've seen a few people talking about the lack of clothe/skins/hair  that would work for an avatar that looks 40 and over or people who can't find clothes that are more covered up and not really sexy club wear.  So I thought I would start a thread where we can share resources, pictures, ideas etc . I know some people (like myself) love to shop and have free time to be in SL a lot and other people don't so camming around a store to hopefully find a few items that might work is not fun at all so this might help people get in and get out and get the look they want.

A lot of times some stores will have items you can wear in different ways to make them look older or younger.  A dress that is too short can be worn with leggings or jeans to turn it into a tunic  (and honestly if it's a mesh template  that is being used someone probably has made it into a tunic.) Or you can use applier or BOM layer to add a tank top or cami if a neckline is showing too much cleavage.

So my first recommendation for a store is Neve by Coldlogic. Neve has a lot of nice separates and mix and match pieces as well as having good basics. And there are some wonderful bonuses: the clothes come in 4 color or pattern packs that are 200L and fatpacks are 600L (usually at the time I'm writing this it may change).  The clothes also have flexibility via the HUD to make them more wearable with things like belt loops, pockets and waist bands that can be turned on and off, different pant lengths, sweater sets or jackets and tops where the top can be hidden or the jacket.

Bodies supported by Neve are Maitreya and all Belleza bodies and now Legacy bodies.

Here is two looks I put together using the same Neve sweater. I added the HUDs so you could see the options for what could be hidden (nothing on the sweater could be hidden). I don't have 2 completely different looks on (I was doing this one day before I had to go to work ) but it gives you an idea of how changes can be made. I know the sweater shows a little tummy but I was just trying to show how you can change the feel of an outfit.

  15. well I was going to start a new topic but I uploaded the wrong picture and can't figure out how to delete it and if I cancel and then start a new topic it just comes back up; I feel so stupid right now.

@MillyWH I've been thinking about this thread, and your picture, how much easier it makes it to actually see examples of converting garments that i would normally overlook. Your example works really well.

I'm not great at styling with jewelry and accessories but I am used to taking stuff and figuring out how to use it to get the look I want.  While I love mesh, I miss the days system and scultpy clothes when you could take the top of a dress and then wear it with a skirt or the bottom of a different dress.

  17. ok so I don't know what to name the thread I want to make but

I did make this look. I know it's probably not exactly what some people are looking for but the whole look and a face close up .  The only thing I bought specifically for this was the tank top everything else I had in my inventory.

    What I'm wearing:

Mesh head - LAQ Leia with the shape that came with it

Skin -LAQ Natasha ,  group gift.

I used the wrinkle layer on the HUD with the opacity down below 50% so it gives some lines but not a lot and it's not heavy.

Top/jacket is from Scandalize and a group gift (free join on the group). They style it as a dress with thigh high boots

    Under it I'm wearing

Izzie's Basic Tank top BOM layer. She also has a long sleeve round neck top but I didn't buy it and I felt it came up too high

    Leggings are Addams, group gift

    Boots are from Eurdora

I dont know what age I look like exactly, I know not 50+ but this is a more mature look and it's using pieces from places that don't really do that kind of look.
