@MillyWH it seems like you've been lucky enough to find what you need. I would like to be able to look my age, and nice! This is really hard to do.

I had type out a whole response and then I didn't post it I guess.

There are some ways I would love to look like but I can't find things I like in SL to do that so I've given up or just wear the few things I have when that mood strikes.

But I understand because in real life I have a horrible time finding clothes that I like the style and color and can afford. Rarely do I get all 3 mostly I get one of those.

I also don't want think of my avatar as having a RL age but I don't think of anyone's avatars in terms of RL age. Plus I'm terrible at judging ages in real life and Im routinely mistaken for being younger than I am (and always have been which is kind of nice now but sucked when I was in my 20s and people thought I was in my teens). So my perception of all that is skewed.

Aside from that I've seen another thread talking about the lack of clothes for a mature look and how everything shows tons of skin. It got m thinking about starting a thread for posting about places to find these things. And pictures of looks etc but I didn't know if that would be ok or what to call it. Because there may not be a lot of stores where the majority of the clothes fall into this category but there are stores where you can find things that would work.

  2. You can't really look at a product and know how old the person is making it.

Take Doe hair for instance the avatars in the ads look young.

I am on my phone and can't get a decent shot of the creator Helywane Vindaloo but she has been a hair creator since I started in SL about 13 years ago. I don't know anything about the person but she is not a teenager at this point.

Also I am not sure which market your feel is disconnected from the  target audience. Clearly there are lots of successful shops that are not disconnected from their target audience.

And a person's age has nothing to do with how their avatar looks.

I have no desire to look as young as some things but I am not the audience and don't shop there. But I also have no desire to look or dress whatever is supposed to appropriate for almost 47.

  3. For Women LAQ offers a head that is more mature and on the HUD there is an option to add wrinkles.

Izzie's has "age yourself" for a few heads and bodies 0-it has varying degrees of wrinkles. She also offers various body imperfections for women and she has some older system layer options for women's faces.

Flat chest is much harder,  the only modI know of are V tech for Maitreya which is made to make a flat masculine chest. Slink makes a petite chest add on now but I don't know if you can make it perfectly flat . The stores I know that make clothes for V Tech are generally geared toward femboy looks. The Secret Store offers Flat chest options (to go with V tech but the more covered up items you can use with out the v tech mod)

I've been in SL off and on for almost 13 years, started in my early 30s and now I'm in my late 40s. My style in SL hasn't changed that much and I've never had a real desire to have my SL avatar look like my physical self.   How I look and how I interact with people in real life isn't who I really am. I mean obviously it's my physical me but I'm kind of llimited by things in how I can look and I am always obscuring parts of my self in RL to be more correct. So in SL it feels like I'm more authentically me.

  4. I love my current location but it's a Traditional and I just don't live the traditionals.  I had Victorian in a nice spot and then grabbed the year on my alt and gave up the Vic. I don't need two homes . I also don't really need to have 2 premium accounts so Milly is house hunting.

Although I may keep the current home because of the location. Who knows.

If I could put the Doyle on the spot I had I would stay.

But I also do enjoy the "catch and release" of house hunting just to see the locations and landscaping etc

  5. I had no idea at first that you could change the style. Then I couldn't figure out how.

Yes there is info on the website in the knowledge area but there are a lot of people who don't read that , or in my case, didn't read far enough down.

I'm going to be honest this is the most active I've been in mainland or in the forums in my roughly 13 years on second life ( well off and on over the course of the past almost 13 years).

I assume there are a lot of people like me who just do our thing and don't pay that much attention to the forums or to the info on the website.

That kind of dress, yes. With a few exceptions, the ones I come across tend to be a good bit shorter and have a lot more of the breasts exposed. Speaking for myself (and to some extent for a friend), I like dresses which are long enough to cover my buttocks at least. A bit longer would be better but above knee is fine. Something I would have been comfortable wearing in public when I was younger.

Recently, I'm seeing cropped sweaters which don't show under-boob. Always having my belly on display would get old, but it's better than the old style of cropped sweater which stopped not far below the nipples. I understand how crop tops avoid mesh clipping, which makes them a useful style.

Each of my avs has an alright enough pair of jeans, more isn't a priority. Skin-tight, ripped jeans, leggings, those aren't necessarily *****, but they aren't really my thing. Tried on a pair of skin tight ones recently that I liked the waist on, it was higher and no butt crack, but the legs were so tight you might as well be wearing system. I'm not clever enough fashion-wise to find a top which suits that kind of silhouette. Especially when I'd rather not have as much breast on display as the norm in tops has been since fitted mesh for mesh bodies caught on.

Any suggestions on flat shoes? My plan to make some for myself hasn't come to pass because of poor health.

And to those giving advice, please be kind. I'm not stupid but my health is lousy enough that every minute I spend shopping is less time and energy I have for friends. I am truly not up to devoting hours to it and my "girl stuff" skills are as lacking in SL as they are in RL.

I'll look through the stores suggested. Thank you to those who took the time. Not a fan of Blueberry though, the fabrics on the solid-coloured singles tend to be a bit bland and the fatpacks to get the patterned ones are more than I can really justify given my limited income.

I don't know if you've ever been to Neve but they have some of the things you are looking for. One thing they do (it might just be on the newer items) is have waistbands, belt loops, pockets etc turn on and off to avoid clipping. They also have jeans and pants that have different cuts - like loose fit or boyfriend style.

So there is a dress you can wear as either a dress, as a long top under a crop sweater or just the crop sweater.

Here I'm wearing the dress over a pair of pants , the pants come with a sash around the waist but I turned it off.

and as a cropped sweater with the sash on the pants.

Friday and Ingenue both have a decent selection of flats right now.

If you are ever looking for something message me in world and I can try and do the leg work for you. I like shopping and hunting  down things .

  7. I don't know if you can use BOM w/materials  BUT you can use appliers AND BOM if you do the layers right.

    https://gyazo.com/adebdb984fcc0ff6c849c04be659f1d0

In this picture I'm wearing - BOM: Skin, a tattoo (the teal streaks on my face and the teal on my neck) and 7 different make ups and eyebrows. Plus body shine applier. Originally I had applier eyebrows on but I switched because I wanted it to just have the one applier layer.

I haven't played around with materials much so I do't know if you can layer materials but you can combine BOM and a layer and do more than you can with just one or the other

  8. I use Maitreya mostly out of convenience but I really like the Belleza venus and Isis bodies . I tried Alice and really liked it but  I don't want to spend my lindens on a body right now and there isn't alot of support for it so I'm holding off .

  9. I went to Seraphim and looked at a few events to see what places there were. I don't seem to have problems finding things so I was wondering how I was finding the shops. And it partly had to do with how I was looking, like events like Tres chic, C88, Fameshed and Shiny Shabby seem to have more stores with this kind of clothes. Although super low cut tops seems to be the norm no matter what.

Baiastice and Fashionably Dead were examples of that.

  10. It isn't an under served market though.  I usually only wear sexy stuff for events or certain sims. If I'm running around then I'm wearing , I guess what you would call regular clothes, although my avatar doesn't look mature so I guess the way I dress skews y ounger. However I am in my late 40s IRL and tend to just wear jeans and t shirts so I'm not really a good judge of what a mature woman would wear. Just going by Honeybear's flickr page I've never had any problems finding clothes like that at all.

Great location!! And, with a few addons, you can get the Victorian touch too :)

It's mostly the interior aspects I miss about the Victorian - like custom color walls (I know I can get add on for that) and the floors and then the overall layout of the Doyle  I liked.  But I know finding a Victorian on the beach isn't going to happen unless by a lot of luck so I'm good with this.

  12. SI LOVE the Victorians. And I had the Doyle looking very cozy and the landscaping was fantastic where I was.  But I switched to a Trad because it's right on the beach and I couldn't pass up the chance to get the spot. I really miss the Doyle and the features of Victorians (and the landscaping I think the lanscaping is much nicer in the Victorian areas than where the Traditionals are) but the view is worth the trade off.

I recently returned to Second Life after a pretty long hiatus. (Around 4-5 years, maybe?)  I have to say that the one thing that really shocked me upon my return was the sheer amount of content that was geared towards women with a 'sexier' edge. (For lack of a better/more appropriate term..)

The "merchant" in me recognizes the reason for this; but I remember a time when Second Life had a robust fashion community and it took me a while after I returned to accept that it's just not the same as it once was.  Some of the content creators who I used to know and appreciate for their 'cute' styling have seemingly shifted into things more revealing.  It's definitely changed the way I view and 'consume' the things that people put out there in Second Life and I've often wondered if part of this shift was the implementation of mesh.  There are definitely ways to service more conservative fashion with Mesh, but it often requires 'full' outfits of some kind as it's often difficult to find mesh pieces from mixed designers that 'play' nicely together without them being created for the sole intent of 'fitting' together.  (I've sometimes joked that I want to make a new SL Blog called "The Crop-Top Diaries" or something... 😂)

Gone are the days of DAZZLE / LAST CALL 💔  - though even then you'd find a few risque pieces in his mix - but there are still plenty of content creators out there making quality clothes that don't require all your bits to hang out.  (At least not all at the same time... :) )

I think Mesh is amazing but one thing I hate is difficulty or complete inability to mix clothes and make new looks and outfits. Prior to mesh you could, for instance, rip apart a dress and use the top or the skirt for something else. Now most separates are just one piece where parts can be hidden. Or you have issues with mesh poking through. Although Neve does have options to hide waistbands, belt loops, etc that makes their clothes more mixable than others.

  14. I had a comment but I accidentally deleted it but even in stores that are 99% sexy stuff you can find things that might work,

Sn@tch has club wear and sexy stuff but you can also find things like this: https://gyazo.com/8da24147dcf9840998d085a3f2b89b88

Salt & Pepper is 99% fetish, sexy and fantasy but they have this:https://gyazo.com/0d997add7e9c2b4e8208d2575fb055bd and other things

I can start listing stores that you could find thigns you might like  and I wouldn't have picked Petite Mort as being a store you would be interested in or MooH but  you have on both in your Flickr pictures.

Off the top of my head I can think of : Neve, Mimikri, Dead Dollz, Hilly Haalan, Entice, Well made, Vinyl, Valentina E, Belle Epoque , Riot, Beautiful Dirty Rich, PixiCat, Emery, American Beauty, Paper Arrow Co, Fashionably Dead,  most of the brands that are at Fameshed, C88, Shiny Shabby, Tres Chic, Liason Collaborative.

Honestly I'm having a hard time trying to think of a store that wouldn't have something that would work for you

  15. I have several...or more than several...I am not sure because I'm pretty sure I made some and then forgot about them and then I've deleted at least one account. I used to periodically go and make a new account and see what it was like starting from scratch. It used to be easier to get an avatar up to "standards" for free before mesh and I found it interesting to see how the new player experience changed.

I also made some accounts for different reasons - I wanted to see what it was like playing a kid but that was a long time ago and I've forgotten that name (which is too bad because it had a cool last name). And more recently I tried again and made another account for that and then decided being a kid in SL isn't for me. I also made accounts to see what it was like being a guy in SL or to do more adult things.

Milly is an alt. I created this account because my first serious SL relationship moved to RL and became very serious and then we broke up and it was difficult to be on my original account and not have a lot of emotions stirred up and instead of breaking out an alt I created a new account. I have 3 accounts with mesh bodies and this is the only one with a mesh head. I recently discovered 2 alts I forgot I made (one was back with last names and I made it because I liked the name combo). I have found I have L on several accounts I didn't realize was there. Not a lot maybe 500L total so I've consolidated that.

I know some people had "bank" alts. At one point the amount of L you had available in world was different than your total account balance and then it got all consolidated into one. I know some people who didn't like that and moved most of their Lindens to an alt and then just pay their main character when they needed money. I'm not sure if it had to do with impulse spending control or just not liking the changes LL made or what.
