  1. I have an object, and I'd like to let people copy it for free. But I would like them also to receive a notecard telling them something about the object. How do I set up the object so that anyone who "right click > More > Take Copy" will receive the notecard along with the copy?
  2. Emma! Thank you so much! The replies to your Q included this priceless gem! " You can turn off the little BUMP sound, but only if you use the Firestorm viewer. Open Advanced >> Debug Settings and look for FSPlayCollisionSounds. Set it to FALSE and the BUMP goes away."
  3. I have built a forest with some paths running through it. As I walk along the paths I hear a "BUMP!" sound when (I guess) my foot hits the side of the path or a root next to the path. I'm told I can "Edit" the sections of the path to eliminate this "BUMP!" sound. Where is the control in "Edit" that allows me to turn off the "BUMP!" sound in the various pieces of the forest? Thanks!
  4. Me and my friends can see when each other is online. But is there any way to see where my friend is? I thought you could do that with the world map, but I can't figure out how.
  5. I couldn’t agree more. And I know you know the impassible north/south corridor on the eastern edge of Sansara is only one of many similar coastlines. And that doesn’t even raise this issue of continents like Heterocera that was clearly designed to permit folks to sail into the atoll and around the central caldera, or the landscaping that used to permit the interior circumambulation inside Sansara through its string of lakes. I used to think SL could be persuaded to open up all those waterways by reminding them of the fabulous selling point for all of SL that touring the continents by sail provides. It could conceivably attract in lots of new residents and help retain many current residents by showing them how vast and diversified SL is. But then I realized a couple things. One is that although I now sail through countless regions using countless servers, I don’t pay a nickel more to SL than I did when I was your basic SL “sim potato”. Two, any contest in SL between sailors and landowners would be like Bambi versus Godzilla. The outcome could cripple sailing into the future. I think it could be really helpful if landowners could be persuaded or seduced into joining the effort, but I haven’t any idea how to do that.
  6. (I mis-posted this to General Discussion, but meant to post it here in Connect the Continents.) I'm new to the forum so apologies if this is old news, but yesterday I sailed the length of Sansara's southern 'polar' river from Montantola to Miller. I had to 'edit' my boat to the top of two 75' waterfalls and over two ice floes that blocked short stretches of the river, and I hit only one short stretich that was too shallow for my Shields' 10' draft. But I was surprised that I didn't hit any ban lines or security orbs. The rez point at the start is underneath a bait shop, but my boat floated to the middle of the shop and I edited it into open water. (Curiously, I must have been about 150' (the two 75' waterfalls) higher at the 'lake' in Miller than at the sea level when I started at Monantola, although I think you can sail from the 'lake' in Miller to the outside of Sansara without dropping down the 150'. I thought 'sea level' was even all over SL.) Anyway, I just wanted to share something in return for all the great posts I've been reading here.

  8. I sail around the waters of SL. One day, without warning some yellow property lines appeared in front of me. Before I could even start to turn around, my sailboat was deleted and I was dropped to the bottom of the water. I couldn't simply re-rez my boat there and continue on, but had to go back to a rez zone to start over again. Does SL permit that? There was no warning sign and nothing in the water indicated I was approaching anyone's property. Lots of property owners near water either put up a simple invisible wall your boat cannot cross, or give you 10-30 seconds to turn around and leave. The no warning deletion of my boat and ejection of me seems a little harsh for having the bow of my boat cross an invisible boundary.
  9. When I open the World Map, I can see the land forms and details when I am zoomed all the way in. But if I try to zoom out using the slider on the lower left corner of the map, the land forms disappear and are replaced by a large empty blue space with names of sims on it. How can I zoom out as far the slider will let me?
  10. Thanks Alwin. (That was quick!) I spent a lot of time and $L getting my little 512 home looking just the way I like, so I hesitate to abandon it. I was hoping for another 512 somewhere (even a skybox would be sweet) so I could expand on what I learned about building. But I guess I may have to eat the extra 512, which isn't so bad since my tiny home is so comfy.
  11. As a premium member I was given a legacy home on 512m2. I understand I have another 512m2 available to me. Where is it? Is it a skybox that I create or claim myself, or do I look for 512m2 of land that's for sale and just claim it?
  12. When I try to 'Edit' something, the long menu that pops up [General, Object, Feature . . .] is so long it extends below the bottom edge of my screen (in the SL viewer) so that I can't see anything lower down than 'Anyone>Move' and 'Next Owner>Modify'. Can the size of the Edit pop-up menu be adjusted?
  13. When I try to restart my animation HUD I get an error message: "Script trying to take controls from owner but PERMISSION_TAKE_CONTROLS permission not set!" How do I set this permission so that the animation's script can run?
