  1. Yea, I have no problem leaving the few inventory bits I have. My avi is the same since 2009, I think. But, no spaces?? Oh gosh no. But you know, I will create an account to try then and have a friend tell me what they see. Will give it a go and try it, and I guess if I not like the way the name then shows, then bla. I will stick to what I got with avi 1. Thanks, Ariel.
  2. So if I change my name, I will forever be stuck having the account name right under? Bla, I might as well make a new avi then, yes? Just not the visual I would want, you know?
  3. No, truth is SL is just messaging. Not real. Some people take it way too far. As far as what people are to their avis, I am not referring to disabilities or such. More like... other bits. However, Skell, this is not the post to have that debate. I just specified why I would not bother changing mine. If you rather have a debate on how people view SL, please move to another post. Thanks.
  4. I have been toying with the idea of tweaking the avi's name. Well, toying with the idea for years. I just have an OCD concern about it. So display name is "John Smithy." John Smithy O / \ | | | I am afraid if I change it to say "The Doctor," then when people see my avi, they will see a display name and account name: The Doctor john.smithy O / \ | | | Just as i see countless avis with both display and account names. I would not want my account name shown over my avi. Too distracting. So before I go changing the name, can you tell me if there is no way around it or it may not happen, or there is a way to not have it happen at all? Thank you.
  5. My avi looks the same today as he did in 2009. Same clothes too. No reason to change. SL is just an instant messaging client in 3D, with dancing. He looks happy and is an extension of myself as people are treated as I would treat them in real life. Just as God made them, not as they want to be. So, he is good the way he is. No reason to fiddle with it. I did accidentally make him a Hobbit once. That was interesting. This him now at Inspire Space Park.
  6. I found that support group you mentioned, Nalates, and was able to ask. What someone told me worked, and I modified it a pinch. In PREFS, I searched for "fade chat after" and made my number of lines 0 and my fade after chat to 2 (lowest it goes). Then I searched for "use console" and enabled that. Now no more local chatting popping up and sits ins its tab like everything else.
  7. Someone gave me a calling card with my name and I was able to drag it onto a notecard and it became clickable. Thank you.
  8. I do not have a calling card with my name in my inventory. Can I recreate one, or wait for someone to come online in my friend's list that may have one?
  9. I have seen people do it, but I can not make it work. I put in a notecard my profile UUID in this format: secondlife:///app/agent/UUID_KEY/profile But it not work. I tried adding http:// and https://, but I can not seem to make it clickable, by me or anyone I share it with. Thoughts? Thank you.
  10. When people talk on local chat, I always get those messages scrolling, as a "toast" on my screen when I am in another chat tab. I was able to disable them as a toast but they now show up as a chat bubble type thing. I want to hide all local chat from showing up when I am not viewing it. You know, so it is not in my way of clicking or reading something else. I want local chat to stop showing up on my screen unless I am actually in the local tab like normal. I just can not find in the viewer ho to do ti. Thoughts? Thank you.
  11. I run Firestorm on a laptop over 10 years old, and I got it running Windows 10. I wibble wobbled it as much as I can. Need $$$ for upgrades, but not enough money or good jobs to even handle rent. But, is possible if you have all your hardware drivers updated. Depending on your install/upgrade, you may have OS conflicts from previous versions, or too much stuff to give a good size swap file a chance. I run my viewer on the lowest low graphic settings, and I hide all non-friend avis when in crowded places. It crashes constantly, and I even run on 2M download speeds (yes, two meg, the best I can afford). Maybe try cleaning your system with Ccleaner Free by Piriform, boot into Safe Mode (F8 on bootup) with Command Prompt and "chkdsk /f/r" (no quotes, of course), then boot back and run a good defrag with Defraggler Free, also by Piriform. Some basics to start with.
  12. https://status.secondlifegrid.net Outages.
  13. I have the name, but I can not find a way in any of the viewers (SL, Firestorm, Singularity) to just start a chat and add a name.
  14. I was having a Doctor Who conversation with someone and crashed. The person was not my friend, nor are they searchable in the people searcher. I can not find a way to start a new conversation with someone by entering a name. Is this possible? I can not see to find proper search results to even answer that question. Thank you.
  15. Lag also seems to be a factor. The more people on screen, the worst it gets.
  16. Yea, need money for new computer gear. Even $50 is not something I have a luxury of. I am set on lowest already Will try that ALM option. At least arms look better now. Thanks, all.
  17. I made some tweaks to the sounds in Windows itself. I turned off sound enhancements. That seemed to have made a difference. Unless the client is using a lot of CPU usage, sounds from SL seem okay for the moment. No static. Will keep seeing how things go for another few days. So far, 48h and no static type noise.
  18. No, it actually did not on either viewer. I am trying the original SL viewer. Still, every other program sounds fine.
  19. I have experienced this with Singularity and now with Firestorm, on Windows 10. When I play any sounds, music or sound effects, it always sounds staticy. It must be the CPU usage these client use up because I can play music and movies via Netflix or my VLC player without a problem. Any thoughts? Thanks.
  20. Giving FS a try since last night. I see arms normally now, yes. It hogs more processing power than Singularity did (and on both clients I always have to have graphics on low). Maybe I will try the original viewer. Thanks, all.
  21. Yes, I had to try to translate that some as well. I was meaning to try Firestorm today. My laptop should be able to use it. I use Sing because when I got back with SL in 2014, someone told me about it and it was SO MUCH EASIER to do things in SL than with the original viewer. I do not build, but I like keeping a clean inventory organized. I tried FS once in 2014 but seemed not to like it. I downloaded FS last night, which seems to get updates a bit more than Sing, and willing to try it tonight.
  22. I am running Singularity Viewer 1.8.7(6861) 64-bit, the latest version of this viewer. So, it is not running easily something call Bento? I will have to look into that.
  23. I see a problem where a lot of people, and sometimes the same people, have these long arms where the hands stay stationary and the arms are stretched. Please see the attached image. Those are two different people. I use Singularity viewer on Windows 10. Thank you.
  24. Singularity viewer. My profile, the 1st life section, trying to upload my picture. I can from my computer, and I can see it. However for other people after that, they see only a grey image that says loading. After sign out and back in, the picture is gone. Any ideas how to get my image to stay? Thank you.
