  1. I thought I would ask people what they do make there AO maps in blender? Ive been playing about with my setting in blender trying to get good AO maps and till today I was happy with what I was getting. Then I watched a tut for baking AO maps with Xnormal, which involved making a hemi sphere bigger than the floor grid and flipping the normals. They then moved the hemi sphere to the side, underneath and above the mesh the result they got where great better than what ive been able to do in blender. Link to the video tut http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RfBNMSWp28 So I thought to myself I wonder if this would work in blender and it does. Here are a couple pics showing the difference Without the hemi sphere With the hemi sphere Much more detail I have found with using the hemi sphere when baking AO maps. So back to my question what do you all do to get detailed AO maps in blender? Could be helpful for people like myself and others to know of different ways to bake AO maps. Also feel free to post what you do even if you dont use blender. :) Thanks Jordan Edited added link to video
  2. Thanks for the replys. Yeah its very annoying. Im not sure about the magic boxes thing as ive never had any but ill give that a try as well as the other suggestions the next time i have to update something on my MP. Hopefully i get it to work next time. Thanks again.
  3. I cant seem to edit associated object. I put the name of the new item i want to update the old one with and it doesnt find anything :S So i have had to make a new listing which i have seen people say is againts the ToS, is there something im missing when doing this? http://gyazo.com/797aaced2d07d268c873df823d45f003
  4. Thanks you Medhue, i just went and found the default SL avatar and it has weighted it better just now going about adjusting the weights like you have said. Thanks again
  5. Thank you im getting less poke through now just now have to adjust some other weights on the leg heres hoping it works out but its looking good so far. Thanks again
  6. I've been trying for days to rig this piece of clothing for someone and i just cant get rid of a couple of problem areas. I have tried doing my own weights, automatic weights and transfer weights and i just cant seem to get it to stop. Pictures below will show what i mean. So when i have done the weighting myself ive tried weighting the back part less so there is no poke through and it looks good untill i move the leg backwards and then the mesh is all messed up. I just do not know what to do i have been trying for days to get it to stop doing that and it seems like its a losing battle, so if anyone has an advice on this it would be really great if you could share it. Thanks Jordan
  7. Forgot to add you could just use local textures its like temp uploads but better. All you do is right click the object > edit > textures > local then find the texture you are working on from your hard drive. One draw back is that only you can see the texture that has been applied.
  8. tHIs may not apply to you but do you have your viewer set to remember your password/username? I've found when ive had that on it tells me username/password is wrong and re entering it works
  9. Ah sorry was just the bit about kilobit that made me think it was. Sorry
  10. Huh is this aimed at me? As I know sassy was correct I never said otherwise as for clever not at all still learning new stuff everyday im far from clever.
  11. Indeed you are right Though im wondering why they are asking maybe its there way of getting their kicks I dunno
  12. Im guessing as you wrote Kb you mean kilobits could be wrong but im sure KB is kilobytes and Kb is kilobits so 0.0078125 bytes in a Kb
  13. Hey, im finding it a bit hard to understand that your asking. Are you looking to get the UV maps from the SL avatar model? I would go on the second life clothing tutorial wiki to get them. Are you trying to get the maps for the clothing you have made? you may have a problem if you still have the avatar model visible try deleting it or hiding it when you do your multi map exportI have just had a quick look at the UV map when i've imported the SL avatar model into Zbrush it has all 3 maps on one layout what you can do is go into the sub tool > spilt > group spilt this will make the avatar into 3 parts and you will get the UV map for only the parts you have selected.
  14. I would have a look at the clothing tutorials Wiki. You just need PS, I see the item you have linked comes with a psd download so that may have some sample textures so you can see how they have textured the mesh so you can get some ideas on what to do. To show yourself as the creator you need to make a root prim which is easy to do, just rez a box in world scale it down, then edit the texture and make it transparent then change the transparency to 100%. Then you select/edit the mesh item then hold shift and select the prim you made and link them, it should now show you as creator. Now just edit linked and move the prim inside the mesh and your done. Hope this helps. Jordan
  15. Great! Im glad you got it sorted.
  16. In your first pic it looks like the shoulders are effecting the collar of your shirt. I would look through the left/right shoulder weights and the left/right collar weights, you could also try adding more weight to the neck weights. Im sure someone else may explain it better but I hope what I said helps a bit. Hope you get it sorted.
  17. You may find if you do ctrl p and automatic weights the inside of the mesh will get weighted differently than the side you see causing bits to poke threw when you move. You could try transferring the weights from the avatar model. This is with automatic weights. This is with transfer weights.
  18. No problem I hope you get it sorted Oh I maybe should point out that if you do the automatic weights for the shorts you will find you will get some bad movement in the waist band area. If they are separate pieces I would do transfer weights for the shorts and automatic for the shirt. But in both cases there is still bits that you need to mess about with. Again I hope you get it sorted and to your liking.
  19. I find when I transfer the weights from the avatar model the weights for the torso and chest are a bit ruff as in when you move the chest the mesh doesn't move right and is what is probably causing your problem. You could ctrl P and do automatic weights that should have a better weight for the chest and torso but you will prob need to tweak some of the other weights.
  20. Thank you both for your replies. Ivan I was just using a black colour then cropping it to the size of the UV map after I read your comment I thought that's maybe what I was doing wrong so I just left the whole layer black which got rid of that line, though I never tried It with a pattern so no idea if that look weird. These are something I want to sell to designers to texture so I'm probably just leave the mesh a tris that MD exports in. Unless anyone has any experience with Zbrush and knows what I may have been doing wrong when using the Zremesher? Thanks again for the replies Jordan
  21. I've been using MD to make mesh clothes then importing the mesh into Zbrush to make it into quad based mesh. Then I use the UV map plugin to make the UV in Zbrush. Then I export to blender to do the weight painting and to do the AO map. When I upload the mesh to SL and apply the texture when I zoom out maybe about 10 meters or so I get this invisible line down the seams of the UV map. So I tried making a UV map in blender but get the same results. Though If I leave the mesh as a tri based mesh there is no invisible line but I find it harder to scale parts of the mesh for eg the waist. Is there something im doing wrong making the UV map? Sorry for the bad quality pic but I had to scale the image as of the distance that the line shows you probably not see it. Thanks for any help that anyone has. Jordan
