  1. There must be 500 t-shirts on the MP with the Rolling Stones tongue logo.  Yes it is a Logo Trademark, and No, I doubt that Billionaire Mick Jagger will sue you for putting it on a poster for an event in SL.  None of the Roling Stones t-shirts on MP have any trademark notation. They been around since SL started.  Most peeps telling DJ's in SL they are violating laws are just pulling your strings - ignore them.

Of course if you are making enough money from their logo or band name, they can always try:

The Rolling Stones sue German clothing company for using mouth logo.  Band files lawsuit against New Yorker Fashion for using iconic image on poster.

  2. I'd increase my tipping at clubs from 100L$ to 200L$ per night. And spend lavish amounts of $Lindens at the Social Casino.  Increase my wine budget too, to $10 bottles with corks...  That's about it :)

If I decided to buy LL, I would station the Linden who thought the Social Casino was a good idea in Antarctica, on a melting iceberg.

SHORT announcements in BIG letters, at lower "fast rez" resolutions.

Big Prim letters, one letter per prim,  rezz in fastest.  LL has plenty of free prims to use on their properties.

I have given up waiting for some of those scripted text signs to clear up so I can see the letters.  Just write your message on a sign made in photoshop, move it to a  texture in SL and slap it on a prim.

Work in Second Life is roleplay, not income.

Until you try to cash lindens into USD, then it is income. I play myself in SL, and it feels like work.

I have a separate settings file ("--settings" viewer parameter) with different cache locations for all the viewers/grids I use.

I think that's the only safe method when running multiple viewers.  And for both caches and other parameter files.  I need to find the options listed for those command line parameters for Firestorm.

Just assigning a different cache location for PBR and Release candidate in Preferences does not work with FIrestorm. The last cache used would have some parameters but the prior cache would still contain all the texture and object data.  Eg, I had a ReleaseCache folder, and a PBRCache folder, on a separate drive, specified in the Preferences/Network &FIles/Directories sections for Release and PBR Firestorm.   FS ignored the different caches, and just used the prior one, after adding basic cache structures to the specified one.  I had some unusual behavior with saved settings, since PBR and Release caches were still shared.

I know this is different than an SL Viewer and FS viewer caches interacting, no idea how that could be.

Hello folks! One of our team alerted me to this forum, they were very upset actually. There are some comments in this forum which make me understand why.

Those some comments that personally attack the mentors and/or Moles could easily be removed and the very few persons (one, two?) who are making them could be removed from posting in the SL Forum.  The forums would be more pleasant to discuss everything if a few were not here.  So this is something you need to discuss with your Forum moderators, in my opinion.

Welcome Hub design and feature discussions are fair game to discuss.  If someone objects to the Buy Lindens kiosk in the Welcome center (and most have), the solution is to remove it, or place it in a less obvious location,  for example.

  6. I've been to the Welcome Hub at least 50 times, and I still get lost there. It's more like a maze that pulls you in the wrong direction.  As a kittycat I should have a good sense of direction after running thru those circles just once, but this place seems to have been designed by aliens.

There is a portal to the Linden Realms game now, which is one way to earn a few lindens.  The catch is, you need to spend about $5 to get PIOF status to cash in, even in the Realms with a Basic account.  A newbie isn't' going to send them cash to buy lindens, before they can cash in crystals for lindens.  There is also a portal inside the Realms to take you back to the Welcome Hub.  I find that's the easiest way to go there, and not be told I am too old a cat to be in whatever circle I landed.

Newbies are also forced to enter SL for the first time with the "beta" PBR SL viewer.  Depending on the default settings, all that white can be blinding in the welcome hub, and the text often is fuzzy as well.  Not the best place to be introduced to SL if you don't have a gaming class computer.

  7. My new Senra alt was sent directly to the Firestorm Welcome Island, which had more helpers and was actually scenic, unlike the sterile hospital build at the Welcome Center.  We decided I was sent to FS because they checked my computer hardware and could tell I was not the first SL account.  But others claim they were sent to the SL Welcome Center that also were alts, so who knows.  I think they use the SL Search algorithms to sort out who ends up where. :)

Second thought - since they can tell what my old accounts are, they would also see I used Firestorm 98% of the time, so they sent my alt to the FS Welcome Island.  You mean they can program that all into the sign-up process?  Those SL coders are real wizards.

And BTW I did sign up at the SL new account page.  I never knew there was a Firestorm gateway and had no choice where I would be dumped.  And, I was forced to download the SL Viewer to make my new alt with, to get the full newbie experience.

In 40 years SL would of died coz we got no phone ap and people will have chips in their brain by then.  But SL will still need a desktop computer!

In 40 years, us ancient's will still be alive, because Elon Musk is working on brain transplants, with more reliable parts than we have now.  You won't need a desktop computer either, you will carry a self contained tiny desktop, implanted somewhere...  SL will still be around, since they will have wireless working by then, so just tune in...

But the  top 8 are the generic clubs that have been in SL since 2003 and couldn't be more dry (usually some big square with everyone dancing the same dumb dance and playing iLoOOOVETHiiissTUuuUNE.) Not sure how they're even alive, but they are... I'm just trying to find better places to hangout than SL's most popular sims , which are sex sims and let's face it, senior citizen clubs. Nothing against anyone, but I feel stuck in ancient time every time I search places in SL.

You are obviously  way too young for SL.  Come back in 40 years and you will love the most popular generic clubs with us senior citizens.  I didn't join SL until I was 68, and found many friends, activities, and music I enjoy.  You don't have enough patience to try some of the search suggestions made here.  Another sign you are too young for SL.

That was my point and I was agreeing with you.

    OMG a first ! (joking)

That Wiki was written in Feb 2014, and has not been updated, although the 1099-K reporting requirements were changed 2 years ago by Congress.  But strangely, since the IRS can't handle the load of 50 million Mom & Pop's used shoes garage sales, they have delayed it through 2024.  So by not updating their old WIKI LL is still accurate.  This doesn't mean they might still send a 1099-K, since before the new IRS ruling Tilia was supposed to send 1099-K's for any amount of $600 or more for 2023 transfers.

I wonder if they are still using the $20K minimum? This is a question to ask in the business forum where there are a few successful business residents that cash out between $600 and $20K per year

What is a Form 1099-K? Why would I receive one from Linden Lab, and when?

That was never the question in this thread - all that should be well known by anyone that cashes out to Paypal.  The only issue was some claiming that SL sends you a 1099-Misc form although they had no evidence of this ever happening since the 1099-K form was in effect. Anyone that can show proof of getting a 1099-Misc from SL or LL, because you sold lindens on the exchange to convert to Tilia Dollars, speak up.  :)

There is a 1099s, just not sure it's used as far as SL is concerned, maybe? IDK.

Yes that is for real estate transactions. I have used that form in the past.  But there is not 1099s or 1099's form, since the plural punctuation was missing in her post. She  was trying to clump a 1099-Misc and 1099-K in to general 1099's to avoid being wrong.

I once owned a commodities trading firm. I know too much about tax law.

Oh, but it does apply. Just ask LL. If it didn't LL/Tilia wouldn't bother with any 1099s. Nor would any other business required by law to file them.

    Sigh

Tilia issues a 1099-K form upon a process credit IF the amount is over some non-disclosed amount each year. That is it. They do NOT issue 1099-Misc. You are simply wrong about that  There is no such thing as a 1099s form, so stop being vague to convince yourself you are right.

I already said Tilia is owned by LL since LL is the umbrella company.  You failed to read everything I said.  I can copy and paste LL boxes too, but I simply put it in my own words.

How many process transfers and 1099-K forms have you received from Tilia?  Experience counts you know. I am done repeating myself in this thread.

It goes from the exchange cash out  which will generate a 1099 misc then to tilla which will generate a 1099k..

Selling lindens on the exchange to generate Tilia dollars does not generate a 1099-Misc..  Tilia issues only 1099-K as you stated.

Tilia dollars remain untaxed and hidden until they are sent via a process credit to a bank or PayPal.  No IRS forms are generated by keeping Tilia Dollars in your account, OR by selling lindens on the exchange for Tilia Dollars.

As to who operates the exchange, Tilia probably does, not sure it makes much difference, it's all just LL software.  It's powered by Tilia, whatever that means.

Tilla doesn't run the exchange LL does

Tillia is a separate business from SL, and all financial transactions are processed by Tilia, even if LL is the umbrella company for Tilia.  SL is a part of LL, but they have no business in real currency. The 1099-K comes from Tilia, and not SL or LL. Neither LL, or SL or Tilia will issue a1099-Misc forms for cashing out from Tilia. A 1099-K form was the what the OP was getting his SSN request for.

SInce the minimum cash out amount for last year was still $20,000 USD per the IRS for issuing a 1099-K, and they claim the OP was eligible to receive a 1099-K, he must have a successful SL business, or won the best jackpot ever in SL.

The info is necessary for those who "cash out". That is considered earned income therefore a 1099 is necessary.

    https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1099-misc

None of that applies to "cashing out" from SL via Tilia.  That is Form 1099-K, and $5K applies for this year, and $20K applies for 2023 income.  Now if you won that new car from the SL20B rafffle from SL, I guess they will send you a 1099-Misc since it was a gift over $600.  Who won that car btw?

    What this means

This means that for 2023 and prior years, payment apps and online marketplaces are only required to send out Forms 1099-K to taxpayers who receive over $20,000 and have over 200 transactions. For tax year 2024, the IRS plans for a threshold of $5,000 to phase in reporting requirements.

This phased-in approach will allow the agency to review its operational processes to better address taxpayer and stakeholder concerns.

Taxpayers should be aware that while the reporting threshold remains over $20,000 and 200 transactions for 2023, companies could still issue the form for any amount.

Also, if Tilla is sending you a 1099 K, that means that you will be getting a 1099 Misc from LL more than likely

Why would LL issue anyone a 1099 Misc?  Lindens are not considered currency and any linden to linden transactions are not taxable, and would have no reason to generate a 1099 Misc.   Of course if you are a part-time contractor working for LL, and they pay you in USD, then a 1099 Misc might be possible.

The only 1099-K would come from Tilia when you do a process credit to an external processor like paypal.  The minimum to generate a 1099-K from the IRS is $5000 USD  for 2024.  LL has not said what dollar amount they will use to send you a 1099-K this year.  But the new minimum is $5000, not $600, as the IRS has delayed that foolish law for another year.  Taxing all the poor people with a side business, or selling your parents stuff on eBay to cover your rent, and getting taxed on it, would not be popular during an election year.
