  1. web.archive.org has multiple dates listed for the original article.  It was first published on Feb 25, 2024 and is still in the web.archive.org wayback machine.  It is one of the most repeated articles on the wayback machine, up until the article was removed.

I assume we can't list the url's here without violating the SL TOS.

It's getting late - somehow I thought that was a question about RL.  But we can't speak of RL here of course.

I am SL class of 2011, but was online in chat rooms since 1978.  Does that make me an oldbie?   I find those that started when all the publicity about making a million dollars in SL, around 2009 (?) still look down on us "newbies" that have a Resident last name, from early 2011.

I think days active inworld would be a better indicator than rezz date.  That would change a few in this forum to newbies.

Save 3 days in the hospital for an emergency operation, I have been IN world, in SL since my rezz date every day for at least 4 hrs, and usually more like 12 hrs/day.

  3. sounds like an improvement over blow up dolls from France...

Serious question, if these NPC AI helpers are owned by LL, can we trust them?  Do I need to watch what I ask them?

The Thing will not be discussed here on these forums

Yep, and anywhere else it seems.  Everyone has been silenced, outside of SL also - too much to lose I guess. We are hoping SL cleans up it's mess and moves forward.

There are ways to figure out what is happening, but I can't tell you or I might end up with large rocks on my feet, in a deep river.

  5. Yeah I knew what you meant.  But decreasing attrition would be an increase in employees, or forumites, and that's not the case I see here.

A higher attrition rate indicates that a company may be facing challenges in retaining its employees. This can be due to factors such as low pay, limited opportunities for career growth, poor company culture, or high levels of stress. A higher attrition rate can result in increased hiring costs, decreased productivity, and a negative impact on company morale.

https://www.hipeople.io/blog/how-to-measure-and-improve-your-attrition-rate#:~:text=This can be due to,negative impact on company morale.

Attrition is more about turnover rate, the lower the better.  From what we have heard, some groups have high attrition rates.  I don't see many newbies coming here to replace the old ones that have left.

    attrition is dropping

I think you mean it is increasing.

Attrition is the departure of employees from the organization for any reason (voluntary or involuntary), including resignation, termination, death or retirement

My dad would say it's pointless because all you need for communication across a distance is a good transceiver and set of Morse code paddles.

So your dad was a young-un.  The proper terms for  telegraphy before radio existed was a Sounder to make two clicks upon making and breaking the circuit.  The first senders were Morse code Keys, simple lever switches you tapped to send dits and dashes.  Paddles, which are called Bugs today, came a bit later, since moving the paddle to the left made a series of dits while dashes were made manually with a left motion.   I sold my old classic VibroPlex bug 20 years ago for $150, so I could have the left and right mixed up.  When I was 7 yrs old I built a telegraph sounder using a wood block, a large nail, doorbell wire, and a couple springs, and a large 1.5 volt #6 size battery.  My parents were worried I would burn the house down. None of my friends wanted to learn Morse Code especially with a clicky old sounder.  They were more into baseball.

Here's one of the first sounders - electromagnet, soft iron piece mounted on a spring loaded fulcrum. The idea was to hear the acoustic click made by the telegraph key, 50 miles away, via the telegraph lines (the first internet?).  Yes this was the first electronic communication all over the world.  A skilled telegrapher could send and read about 35 words per min.  Now what is this PBR again?

I was an only child - so no siblings to practice the Morse Code with, or join SL... (see, on topic)

  8. Has anyone seen a Lab Gab announcement where the participants were not listed in the announcement?  This is very strange. Was LL unsure who would be interviewed (as in available) for the Lab Gab?

Ah, that's the SL economy (not LL gross income), right?

I have seen SL's gross revenue as around $80 Million/yr. but their Net income was estimated as $8.5 Million, as stated above.  LL has to pay their employees, the Amazon Cloud, and their legal staff, and their generous benefits, from that gross income.

  10. Because bot spammers move on until they find a group that works for sending.  They are as affected as anyone, but are more persistent, and don't care if one group is not working, because they are auto sending in dozens of groups.

The problem is on your end, probably your inventory, or your region.   That's why alts can send and mains can not.  Group chat has been broken for about 10 years.

PBR has more priority.  If SL would charge you for sending a group message, It would get fixed quickly.

How can i get it to stop asking and just play things?? I don't want to have to "Allow always" for every individual place. I tried turning on all the settings in Preferences > Sounds & Media but still does it,

Check "Allow audio streams to auto-play", and uncheck "Enable media filter."

    What Is Second Life's Revenue?

Second Life's annual revenue is $8.5M. Zippia's data science team found the following key financial metrics about Second Life after extensive research and analysis.

Second Life has 270 employees, and the revenue per employee ratio is $31,656.

Second Life peak revenue was $8.5M in 2023.  https://www.zippia.com/second-life-careers-930924/revenue/

Not sure I believe this estimate from Zippia.  I have seen higher annual revenue estimates.  I assume those 270 employees include their contract workers, eg the Moles.

Does anyone know why music on my home and in clubs will randomly stop, but when it does I can still hear sounds

What kind of sounds? Your viewer has a mixer that can mix Object sounds, Streaming Music, Media Music, Ambient Sound, and Voice too if activated.  Turn all the volume controls but Music down by moving the Sliders to the far left.  You should not hear any sounds if the streaming music is interrupted then.  Media channel is a common source of sound if you don't have it blocked.  Dropouts from streaming music are common, depending on the quality of it's net connections to you.  That can happen anywhere in the network chain.

If you Mute the Master channel, you should hear silence as well, unless sounds are coming from another application outside of your Viewer such as your Browser.
