  1. Hi Perrie, The topic is about people who might want to spy on you by giving you a "gift", which possibly contains scripts to keep records of where you (the owner of the gift) have been, what you said, etc. Not really anything we need to give other people "bomb-threat" warnings for. :smileywink: The reason why Vegro suggested to rez it on a sandbox, is to prevent the "gift" from leaving something on your land, after you deleted it and of course, without you realising it. In a public sandbox, everything you rez (knowingly or unknowingly), will be deleted automatically after certain time (4 hours most of time). Also the spy-script would only have effect on the owner of the gift i guess, so nobody would be in "danger" or a guinea pig, as you suggested. Still, i have to smile when i picture your time-bomb scenario! :smileyhappy:
  2. Great idea to rez suspicious gifts at a public sandbox, thanks!
  3. Hey Tamara, great reaction! It made me laugh hard too, but i didn't feel it to be appropriate to comment on it. But now you reacted so sportive yourself, my favs were: Read instructions, write instructions and respect the rules. ( read..write...I come here to get away from RL, It is much more fun to IM bomb the maker asking the same questions that are in the first line of the notecard no one reads .) One day, all this will be gone. ( That is why you should give me stuff for free ! ) I really like this style of - kinda "nagging" humor! And thumbs-up to the OP for this thread, can't wait to see further reactions! Cheers!
  4. Very funny and recognisable! My thing to add: Just because i bought something in your shop, doesn't mean i want to be subscribed to some list to automatically receive daily notecards with new offers, CAUSING IMs AND OTHER DELIVERIES TO GET CAPPED! And then when i go back to your shop - as advised in the notecards - to unsubscribe to this list, i have to search around your shop to find a sign to do so, BUT THIS SIGN IS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND! In the mean time i'm raising your shop traffic (which is obviously your intention), which leaves me with a dirty taste in my mouth of the feeling BEING PLAYED LIKE A FOOL! Then, when i open your profile to send you an IM, i see you have written there: "PLEASE DON'T SEND IMs, THEY CAUSE OTHER DELIVERIES TO GET CAPPED"!! But when i send you a notecard instead, i never hear anything back, and i'm still on your "STUPID ENOUGH TO BE YOUR CUSTOMER" list!
  5. BTW: Dillon already answered it perfectly, but with my viewer i have to click on "Info" as well, so that's why i added it.
  6. Go to "My Groups" -> high-light the group you want to hide -> click on "Ïnfo" -> un-tick the box "Show in Profile".
  7. Dear Nikilei, Sounds like a lot of fun! I'm a creator and currently don't have a project to work on. Making things (beautiful) is what i like to do most in SL, i can get really involved in it, and when a project is finished, i can get really sad for a few days. Until i get involved in a new thing, and fall in love all over again. Anyway... I so understand your frustrations of a starting builder/landscaper! When i "bought" my first land years ago, the landowner got really impatient with me, cause i had no idea what i was doing. Fortunately i've met so many friendly and helpful people since! Although i'm not as fortunate as you are, that i can afford my own island! That's my secret dream (not so secret anymore now hehe). I tried to TP to your region, but i guess it is still closed for public, cause i couldn't access it. I also checked out Calas Galadhon and it indeed looks amazing! So, if you haven't found anybody yet, what i can offer you: First of all, i also don't need any salary. The way i play this game is to create/build/design/landscape, that's what i like to do most. I think i will be able to - after going over the details and more examples of what you like and what you already have purchased, etc - make (or help you make) something you like. Would be great if you can use (or at least hear) SL voice, so we can talk, instead of having to write everything down. Then i can (try to) explain you everything along the way. That way, you could tell me your vision, i show you what you need - and how - to create it, and then you can play around with it (for example when i'm not on line) and learn how to do it yourself in the future (or even for this project), ánd learn more about SL altogether. On the other hand, i do have a full-time job in RL, so i can only play so many hours. I work shifts though, so i can play at all times of the day (depending my schedule) and your location would therefore not be a problem (timezones can be a hassle sometimes, when you have to work many hours together). And i would devote all my free time to your project to get it finished a.s.a.p. (might even fall in love with it *grin*). If you like my ideas, i can show you in-world some things i made (i run my business with an alt, so you wouldn't be able to find it on my name) and you can show me more of the things you like and want to see happen. And also we can get to know eachother - as we probaly would have to work some time together - and talk about the hours you usually are on-line and how many hours/days/weeks you have in mind for this project (and if i have that available), etc. Otherwise: Enjoy SL and good luck with your project! And let us know when it's finished, so we can explore and enjoy it, ok?! Warm regards, Ailya Babii...
  8. The items which you keep in your inventory don't count, only what you are wearing / have attached to your avatar. Maybe you are still wearing a HUD, or anything else that came with the Fox outfit? Things which you can resize have a lot of times a huge amount of script (hair for example), but you will usually find something to delete the scripts, ones you have the size you want. Good luck again!
  9. Hi Anechka, Did you contact the photographer, Harlow Heslop? I made a search on Google and found her website (http://www.harlowheslop.com/), with those same pictures there as well. I didn't go through the website, but maybe she posts information about the fashion on there. Or you could contact her in-world. Good luck!
  10. Hi Mike, Just some questions, so we can maybe advise you better: So, around 2000 prims are really small, yes? How wide spread are the 9000 prims? And how wide spread are the 2000 prims? What is the purpose of selecting around 9000 prims all at ones? Tnx!
  11. Hi Usive, I never used prim eyes, so i'm not sure if i can advise you, but: Do you have a texture that works in full perms? Then you can upload it to your harddrive and open it with the software program which you use to create your own texture. When you also open your own created texture in that program, you can compare if the eyes are placed the same on each texture, and also if there is a part (non-) transparent in your texture which should be adjusted (or something). If you still can't get it to work, then you could use the working texture as a template for your own texture. Copy your own eye (just the eye, not the eye-white etc) over the eye on the template and then import it back into SL. On the other hand: Are you sure that the working texture appears on your prim eyes and not just as a texture on the usual SL eyes? Or are you not wearing the prim eyes at the time you are trying the textures? I'm curious if/how you solve the problem! Will you let us know?
  12. Hi JV, I'm in Europe, but working shifts (around the clock), so i play SL at all times of the day/night, depending my work schedule. In my experience, there are many people all over the world playing at night time for what ever reasons. How to find the busy places? The tip of VR is really great: "exploring by opening the world map and looking for lots of green dots". And you can also find busy places via Search -> Places, and then type "Australia" or "Pacific" or anything related to your time zone. It will list the places with most visitors (on the day before) on top. And since a lot of people search that way, those places remain busy day after day at any time. When you find a place which is busy and fun at the times you're on-line, you can just make a landmark there (World menu -> Create Landmark Here), so you can find it back later. The landmark will automatically appear in your inventory in the folder "Landmarks". You can create a subfolder in this folder and drag all the landmarks of the places which were fun in your timezone to that folder. Another idea is, to update your profile with the times you play and that you like to join a group or become friends with people who play around the same times. Many people check out your profile before they even talk to you and it gives them a nice opening to approach you (winkwink). Good luck! And let us know how the story continues, ok?!
  13. Hi Queenvampire, You can try to uninstall the viewer completely and reinstall. If that doesn't fix it: - Which viewer are you using? - Do you use the same viewer with every alt? - Do you (or did you ever) have more than one of your avatars logged on at the same time? - Do you see that white dot above your head to indicate you have voice active?
  14. And i think that on Wednesdays, LL restarts the servers. Not sure if is, but if so, then that might also resolve your problem.
  15. Hi Lokia, First of all, make sure that when ever you crash to send a crash report (Preferences -> General tab -> Crash reports -> set to "Always send"). And talk to the club owner(s)/manager(s) to verify if other people reported the same issue and/or if they can clarify why you experience these crashes in their club (i ones "was crashed by" a club when i arrived with a whip on my hip as decoration, when i asked about it i was told that no weapons were allowed there). Then you could try (step by step): - Reset your graphics preferences to the original default values (Preferences -> Graphics tab -> Reset -> OK) - Turn off particles (Advanced menu -> Rendering types -> Particles -> deselect "display of particles") - Uninstall SL completely and then reinstall - Ask the SIM owner(s)/manager(s) for a restart of the SIM (if the sim is on private estate, then the SIM owner can do that, but when on main land, i think the owner has to request it with LL and it might take a bit longer) - Report the issue to LL (make sure to include your SecondLife.log file, see for more info here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Debug_Help) It might be handy to try after each step if the problem is resolved or not, so you can really pin-point where the fault lays, or, so you can change things back if that step didn't solve your problem. And will you let us know how the story ends?! Good luck!! PS: Besides the above example where i "was crashed by" a club, i know of more examples where people "were crashed by" a club or another avatar. I really don't know if/how that is possible, but for example a while ago my (male) friend crashed every time when he arrived at a popular place where i had no problems at all. When i would TP him in right next to me, he had also no problems. He later heard a rumor that the club "crashed" the male guests who came by themselves, cause they only wanted single women and couples in the club. There were indeed no guys standing around there and a lot of single girls and couples, but i don't know for a fact if it's true, just from rumors.
  16. "I know the guests who recognize that it is an ALT are laughing at the guests who are interacting with it." This says more about those guests than about the DJ/host. And they are actually already taking care of your problem, cause when the in-crowd is ridiculing the other guests, those guests will not enjoy their stay and leave, without tipping the DJ/host. I'm sure many DJs use alts for hosting or dancing on their DJ booth, or whatever else lifts up the party and makes the guests enjoy their stay and hopefully tip them. It looks to me that the in-crowd of this club is hurting the club (-owner) more by making the other guests feel uncomfortable, than the DJ/host is by running two jobs at the same time. BTW: Maybe the in-crowd feels in fact the same way as you do. Why otherwise would they ridicule other guests for not knowing?! They probably feel duped themselves by the DJ/host and clearly consider it to be humiliating. Otherwise they didn't have to prove so hard that théy already know. But you are not coming accross as any better with your desire to "out" the DJ/host. You might want to ask yourself if you are really angry with the DJ/host and if yes, could it be for something else? Or, are you maybe angry at the people who are putting the other guests down and ridiculing them? What i don't understand is, why you want to hang-out at a club where you don't like the DJ/host nor the in-crowd?! There are so many nice places in SL with friendly and fun people. If you just want to help the club owner, you might as well let him/her know that you don't experience a nice atmosphere at the club, then they can make their own investigation (visit the club as an alt?) and draw their own conclusion.
  17. Although i do agree with what you are saying, i don't agree with the example. In the OP's example, one person is doing two jobs at the same time, pretending it is two different people and getting paid twice for the same time. In your example, it is one person doing only one job at the same time. They are not being payed twice for that time, but only ones. But that's only nitpick, cause i do agree, if one person is doing two jobs at the same time, he or she might as well be payed/tipped for each job they do perform successfully and satisfactory.
  18. Hi Jevonv, Maybe you are wearing a transparent layer/mask which comes with some sculpted/mesh clothing? You can check what you are wearing by going in your inventory "Worn Items" tab. Good luck! And please let us know if you have more questions or when/how you have resolved your problem, ok?!
  19. Or in short: If you don't betray / cheat on / lie to people yourself, then why worry about them spying on you?!
  20. Hi Vladamir, I had the same worries/questions when i found out that people can spy on you, just by sending you a "gift" with hidden spy tools in there! It even triggered me to distrust everyone who would give me a gift, even my friends which i knew for a long time. And then that made me feel guilty for doubting them. The only real solution i could come up with (and other people told me), was to delete any gift right after thankfully receiving it. From inventory ánd trash bin. I was told that i should certainly not rez anything i don't trust, as that was supposed to activate the hidden spy stuff. I don't know if this is actually true, or, if "it" activates as soon as you accept it in your inventory. But i could just not find it in my heart to reject a gift from someone right in their face. Maybe hypocrite, but i want to protect myself, without having to offend people who don't mean bad. And i have no problem deleting random gifts from people i've just met (and which they probably give to anyone they just meet). My experience is that those "gifts" just stay useless in your inventory anyway, causing inventory clutter (and i have enough of that already, just from my own clutter)! To avoid getting gifts from real friends, i told everyone that i don't like to get presents (which is actually true, i hate having to act surprised and pleased, while actually i can't stand looking at the darn thing!), just to avoid getting anything that i then had to delete. That worked out quite well for a while, but as my life developped, was not really satisfactory anymore. I want to be able to accept a gift from a real friend, without having to wonder about their ulterior motives. What are real friends otherwise for? But on the other hand, when meeting néw friends, i would like to be able to know upfront if the person is capable of such - not really friend-worthy - things. So with the people i consider friends, i decided to just not worry about it and trust my own instincts and the reasons why i considered them to be friends in the first place. I was never betrayed by anyone who i consider a friend in the past, so why get paranoide now?! And with people i've just met, i inspect their gifts (sorry people!!) for hidden scripts. For anything to "do" something in SL, it needs one or more scripts. You can only put a script in an object or attachment (and not in a skin or shape for example). So what i do is, i go in edit mode (just right-click on any object around you and choose "Edit" from the pie) and rez a copy of the item on the ground (when you open the edit box befóre you rez the object, then it is automatically selected, which is really handy when the object is very small or transparent for example), ór i wear the item if it's not copyable and then select it (by just clicking on it, if the edit box is open already). Then check under the "Contents" tab if there is anything hidden in it. Some objects contain out of more than one prim though. If there are only a few, then you can select them one by one (you need to tick the box "edit linked parts" first) to inspect the contents of each linked prim. But if an object contains out of many prims (some flowers or jewelry for example can have hundreds of prims), then it's almost impossible to select each prim one by one. Then what i do is, i select the entire object/attachment and check under "Tools" on the menubar on top (i use Phoenix viewer, not sure how it looks with other viewers). I don't have SL open now, so i cannot check which options there are, but i'm sure there are some options with the scripts (reset scripts in object for example, which shows you every script in the object during the reset). I'm not sure if there is also an option to inspect the scripts there, but i do think you can inspect the entire object by right-clicking it to open the pie, then select "More" and "Inspect". Since my instincts only go so far - as i can't look people in the eyes - i don't feel at all guilty to inspect people's gifts. And i'm also not worried anymore to rez the gift and therewith maybe activate some spy stuff. I'm confident i can find any hidden scripts or anything dodgy, and ones i would know someone has send me such a thing, their spying doesn't hold any power anymore, as it has then already revealed them as a very insecure and pathetic loser. So now i consider those random gifts as true presents, as they give me a great opportunity to find out if someone has bad motives, before getting more involved. And also i realised, that even without me knowing that someone is capable of spying on me, they still wouldn't hold any power over me, since they would not be able to do anything with the information they gathered, as that would reveal them as the insecure pathetic loser which they are. What ever they find out about me, can never be worse than that!
  21. Hi Bridgett, I think you are completely right when you said the looks in SL are following trends and currently the trend for human avies seems to be the "squinty eyed, fat pouty lips" type. A couple of years ago, when i was upgrading my appearance and shopping around for a new skin, i could only find overly tanned skins with too much make-up. Therefore i decided to learn how to make my own skin (with similar software as photoshop, called gimp, which you can download for free on the internet), so i can still look pretty, but with a natural looking make-up and skin tone. Since i'm not a painter or artist, i'm not able to make a skin from scratch, so i've invested quite some money in skin templates (PSD) from the marketplace and in-world. I got different ones from various creators, so i can mix and match the different layers of the templates in order to get a true original skin and not just a clone of one creator's imagination. Nowadays you can find very good templates for a reasonable price. In my opinion the skin comes first and then you make your shape to fit it. I would never get a shape from someone else, it is quite easy and a lot of fun to make your own and after a bit of practice, you will see that you will get really good at it. Also, if the skin appears to have squinty eyes and pouty lips, a lot of times you can improve that by adjusting your shape. If you like, i can try to create "a normally proportioned female avie with a hint of a smile, modifiable shape and at least a few selections of skins for different makeups" for you? You could show me some pictures/examples and tell me your wishes, so i have an idea of the type of person (and size/color of various parts etc) you want to look like. I don't want money or anything for it, i just enjoy making skins and shapes and think i could create something you will like. And i won't take it personal if you don't! Looks are very personal and i don't consider my efforts a waste of time, i really enjoy it. Anyway, i'm not online every day, but if you like the idea, drop me an IM in-world and we can find a time to discuss it further.
  22. Hi Avestal, Not sure if i got your question right, but what i do when i want to quickly switch between skins in order to compare, is going in "edit appearance" mode. I keep my inventory open and double-click on the skins i want to try, one by one. It appears the skins (textures) rez faster when i'm in "edit appearance" mode. Also your avatar is sort of frozen when in "edit appearance" mode, so you can just keep your camera pointing on the area (face, body, etc) which you want to inspect.
  23. Hi Jonia, Only if you have a premium account, you can have more than one avatar per email address. If you have a basic account, then you can only have one avatar per email address. If you have a premium account, then you pay a fee per month/quarter/year for your first avatar, and you pay an additional amount (only ones) for each additional avatar. I think there should be a way to find out how many and which avatars you have linked to your premium account. If you have a basic account, you can only have one avatar per email address. If you only have one email address, then you probably also have just one avatar. If you have more than one email address, you could check each email account for messages from/regarding SL, if you can find your details. Another idea: Maybe you made friends with yourself / your alts? Good luck!
  24. Hi Acyrotin, To make a skin, there are indeed templates to show how everything is mapped. I'm not sure, but i think you can find them in the SL library in your inventory. You have them for face and body, but also for clothing. On the other hand, i'm not familiar with the Crux avatar, but i checked it out on google pics and i don't think such an avatar uses a skin. It looks more like attachments. For example the head, you would not be able to adjust your shape in such a way to get the head look like that, and then put a skin over it. It looks more like the avatar is wearing an attached head (made out of several linked prims and sculpties) with textures on it. Also the hands and feet etc look like they are attached, instead of skin over shape. If you still want to make a costume look for yourself, you could find a cheap copy/mod example on the marketplace, and then take (a copy of) it apart and see how it is made and what it consists of etc. Maybe you can even adjust it in such a way (with different textures and colors etc), that it looks like a costume made Crux avatar already. Have fun!
