  1. GTA Online, FFXIV, ESO, WOW, Cities:Skylines,  all on macOS (except for GTA Online via Bootcamp, GTA is the only reason I have Windows installed on my Mac lol.)

Not all at the same time. I go through phases where I play only one of those non-stop for 3-6 months on end then drop it and move onto the next… rinse and repeat.

I usually have a beard or at the very least a few days worth of stubble, there's nothing about my appearance that suggests I'm a child. I haven't ever been asked to leave anywhere because of my height.

An avatar which is slim and clean-shaven as well as being short is likely to have an entirely different experience.

Yeah, but that’s the thing; I’m not clean-shaven either. I have a mesh beard (goatee), hairy arms, mesh armpit hair, when nude there’s a six pack with a “happy trail,” hairy legs, thick bushy mesh pubes, thick P (sorry for the TMI, but just putting that out there lol, and, I was clothed at the time of the kick/ban) - absolutely NOT a “child”. It’s baffling that they disregarded all that and labeled me a child just because they were giants compared to me. And again, even if I were clean shaven, or a “child” - I would be allowed there, according to TOS. 🙈Venue owner Stupidity 💯

EDIT: Some backstory to the situation, that makes it even more bizarre. I’m a live-mix electronic DJ and producer. When I do a livestream, I post notices in multiple music and party groups, along with the SLURL to where I’m DJ’ing and a link to my website’s “Listen Live” page for those who can’t make it to the venue to listen in via their web browser. The place that I was kicked/banned from for being “short” / mistaken as a child, actually Invited me. They heard my set via my notice / Listen Live page, and invited me to go check out their venue if I maybe wanted to DJ there. But when I arrived, the compliments related to my mixing and music style quickly turned to demands to change my appearance and discriminatory remarks, mention of SL TOS and with the kick/ban at my refusal to change my appearance.

    Like… WTF lol.

Ah yes, those are all super handy. Flight Assist, area search, and the ability to hide or derender things. I use some of those features sometimes too. Area search is especially handy when trying to find a specific item in a store. Like when demo’ing furniture from Marketplace at an in-world store. No need to look for it, just do an area search at the in-world store for the same name from the item on the marketplace and you’ll know where to go to see it in the in-world store. It’s like having a built-in shop assistant. 👏🤩

  5. Hello, happy holidays, and merry <whatever you celebrate>!

I've recently made a post, and some comments on other posts, about my grievances with the Firestorm viewer. But in the spirit of the season, I'd like to clear the air and take this time to show some appreciation of what I DO LOVE about the Firestorm viewer and the continuous hard work of those who develop and maintain it.

Firstly, great thanks to Linden Lab for providing an open source viewer for Third Party developers to fork and improve. Thanks to that, we are able to have third party developers who not only create epic, feature-rich viewers like Firestorm that make many things in Second Life a lot easier and simpler to accomplish - many quality of life features that I WISH were in the default Second Life viewer, or in ALL SL viewers (Official and TPV's), but they're also doing all of this for free, and are kind enough to share it with the public. Thank you Firestorm Team!

Here's my list of my top five personal favorite features that I DO love about Firestorm (UI colors and styling greviences aside), why I use it, and, if you haven't given it a try yet, maybe some of these points may be of interest to you:

    1.  Favorite Wearables: While it's possible to create a similar folder of such items in the official Second Life Viewer ( or any TPV for that matter), Firestorm provides easy, one-click button accessibility to such folder. I absolutely LOVE having quick one-click access to items I frequently attach/detach rather than having to search for them. This feature, in my personal opinion, is an absolute MUST HAVE. Once you get used to it, you can't live without it.

    2. Inventory Type Sorting: The ability to search inventory sorted by type (Object, Gesture, Notecard, Script, Texture, etc.) - This makes finding exactly what you're looking for a lot easier and quicker than having to comb through all inventory items from a search query. Finding things (even with a messy inventory) on Firestorm is an absolute breeze!

    3. The Built-in Animation Override: Not only is this extremely easy to set up - You simply create custom sets and drag animations into it, but it makes creating multiple custom "AO's" for different occasions easy and effortless. Thanks to this, I have no AO cluttering my view in the HUD, and I have built-in AO options for being "Chill", one that's a bit more lively, another couple of sets with different dance styles (yes, you can use the Firestorm built-in AO as a dance system too, by dropping your dances into the "Stands" section. It's also easy to convert HUD-based AO's into the built-in AO instead - Simply Rez the HUD-based AO on the ground, edit it, go to contents, move the animations from the hud's contents into your inventory, then set up a new animation set in the built-in AO and drag/drop the animations from your inventory into the appropriate sections for stands/sits/walks/etc. I wish this feature was available in ALL Viewers so that everyone, regardless of viewer preference could have access to this amazing tool.

    4. Parcel Audio info and Management: The ability to see what's playing, popping up in local chat (This is great for music discovery - it's like having a built-in Shazam). and the ability to set and save multiple streams on a parcel, that can easily be switched between through a simple dropdown menu, rather than having to save a list elsewhere and constantly having to copy/paste URLS when changing stations.

    5. Enhanced Radar: The ability to not only see "Nearby" people, but to also see their exact distance, and being able to easily cam or teleport to them through the right click menu. And the ability to receive local chat notifications and to hear sounds when someone enters or exits region or draw distance. I spend a lot of time alone at my Linden Home, often cammed in on my TV, watching Second Life machinema, or looking closely at something I'm editing or moving around. Friends would pop in and, when using the Default viewer, I don't always notice them until they're right in my face, or until they say something. With Firestorm, I hear a sound and get a local chat notification every time anyone enters my draw distance, so if I'm busy or not actually looking in their direction, I am still aware that I now have company and can greet them; it’s like a built-in doorbell - This is also a useful tool for event hosts; being able to see a message in local chat and hear a sound when a new patron arrives on location, rather than having to constantly monitor the nearby people window when attempting to personally greet everyone.

I could go on and on about why I absolutely love and use Firestorm, but those are my top 5.

What are your top 5 favorite viewer features?

NOTE: In the spirit of the season, please let's keep this thread a positive one, If you prefer a different Viewer, feel free to list which, and share what you love about it but My intention is for this to NOT be a viewer-wars thread, I don't want this to be negative. I've already been negative enough myself. It's time for some positivity. And this way, maybe those who aren't aware of some epic features, are able to discover what they may be lacking or wish they could do. - If you're trying out Firestorm for the first time, due to your interest in any of these mentioned features, but would prefer a more familiar look and feel, check this guide on how to make Firestorm look a little bit more like what you are most familiar with.

Special thanks again to Linden Lab ( @Rider Linden, and everyone else on the SL viewer team) for making and keeping the viewer Open Source, and to the Firestorm Team ( @Ansariel Hiller@Jessica Lyon, and everyone else on the FS viewer team) for forking it, adding epic features to it, maintaining it, and graciously sharing it with the public! I look forward to future updates.

    Happy Holidays!

That's a funny thing, calling someone a "troll" because they disagree with you 🤔

Disagree with what exactly? I posted a link for the purpose of sharing its contents. They then quoted the contents, at me, as if I haven’t read it. I’m not sure what disagreement you’re referring to? Not to mention, I’ve “Liked” some of their previous responses, because we are in agreement.   🤷🏻‍♂️😂

I was kicked/banned from a "normal" event/music location, with nothing drug/violence/sex-related in sight, simply because it was on an adult-rated region, even though I AM an adult, mistaken for a "child" due to life-sized height. "Child" avatars ARE allowed in that location, they're just apparently not welcome due to ignorant or paranoid venue owners using LL Guidelines (that they clearly didn't even read) as an excuse for their discrimination.

  7. 12 minutes ago, Drake1 Nightfire said:

But they aren't allowed everywhere.. Straight from that page you list.

Since Adult regions by design will often contain sexual content, child avatars should use caution in visiting those areas."

They are not allowed near adult furniture and sexual content. Which includes pronographic images.

I am able to read. I did in fact, read all the content on the page from the Knowledgebase link I posted. I know the guidelines, I’ve read them. Thanks. You’re seriously just trolling now.  🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

If you retort to them was, "Child avs can go on any land" then yes, i would boot you as well as your response should have been, "I am an adult av."

No, I said “I’m not a child”. I mean, I don’t even look like one, not even in the slightest. But they were towering over me at like I dunno… max leg, torso and body height I guess, by the looks of it. They said child av’s are not allowed on adult sims per LL rules (which I also assumed as true at the time) and that I should make myself bigger if I want to be there. I said no, I’m not changing, I’m not a child. So they kicked and banned me.

Edit: I should mention, this wasn’t even a sex-themed place, no adult content; just a “normal” looking event/music venue on an adult region.

It’s actually that very incident that made me double check the community guidelines on the knowledge-base regarding child avatars on adult regions, since I’m life-sized and some people seem  to think that “small” (in comparison to them) = “child.”… then seeing that even if I were a “child”, I would’ve been allowed there. I think there’s just this inaccurate general assumption regarding the region ratings and even life-sized adults catch the brunt of it. So now, every time anyone brings up the topic, I chime in and drop the link to the Knowledgebase because, I think the majority of people have the wrong assumptions (like I did) before actually going over all the guidelines. But no one likes reading the fine print. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  9. Pet Peeve 1: Full-Bright on anything that’s not a light bulb or a flame, especially those full-bright furniture and plants. Plants can look okay in a certain fantasy setting but driving through a traditional neighborhood and then suddenly being blinded by someone’s palm tree or patch of grass… Annoying AF. Things look a lot better when using actual light to illuminate them. Want something lit? Shine an actual light at it… making it full-bright is ugly and unnatural. Please stop making couches and palm trees Full Bright.

Pet Peeve 2: Face lights. It’s okay if you’re doing it for a photo shoot but, wearing one all the time? Hanging out in dimly lit places but lighting up the entire area like some stage performer under a spotlight with your face light 3000 that’s brighter than the sun?… No, I will derender you.

Pet Peeve 3: Firestorm’s ugly UI

Pet Peeve 4: Myself (sorry that y’all have to deal with this).

Where you are making your mistake is the fact the region owners and parcel owners can say "No child avatars" and make it stick. They are within the ToS to do so. Thier land, their rules regardless of region rating

I know that, but the fact remains that “child” avatars are allowed on adult regions, so using SL TOS as an excuse to discriminate is invalid. If the land owners don’t personally want “child” avatars around, that’s fine, it’s their land; their choice. But many aren’t aware that it’s not against the TOS to have them around. It is allowed. So you have cases of pointless AR’s just from a “child” being on an adult region. Many are using fear of trouble from Linden Lab behind their reasoning, wrongly assuming that Adult-rated regions are completely off-limits to “child” avatars, which is not the case. I don’t think many people actually read the TOS or even look at the Knowledgebase.

Also, I’m not derailing this thread.. it’s related to Firestorm bugs and UI, isn’t it? But okay, I’ll keep to myself, as FS user experience feedback seems to only be welcomed when it involves praise... No criticism related to unpleasant user experiences are allowed. Okay… 🤐

I think they just tend to keep to themselves and their families because of all the ignorant discrimination in most public places. report them after a few minutes without warning If I notice them lurking on adult places

Just gonna leave this here: Child avatars ARE ALLOWED on Adult regions

Are child avatars allowed on Adult regions?

Yes, child avatars (having been verified as being operated by adults in real life) are allowed in adult regions, but the existing rules prohibiting sexual ***** or proximity to sexual content still apply. Since Adult regions by design will often contain sexual content, child avatars should use caution in visiting those areas.

The rules are simple; don't engage in sexual activities as a child avatar. But, reporting or kicking child avatars for being on adult land... that's just ignorance and discrimination, and you're wasting the Linden's time because, they're not going to ban the "child" from Second Life for having been on an adult region. And it's not only child avatars that suffer this fate. Life-sized avatars experience the same kind of discrimination.

My avatar is life-sized (6'2" - my RL height) which is technically quite tall, but "short" in SL terms, since everyone on here is 8-10ft tall. I also have facial hair, but I've been kicked/banned from places before for being "short" and wearing cartoony t-shirts because "child avatars aren't allowed on adult land"- Newsflash; I'm NOT a child, and even if I were, child avatars ARE allowed on Adult land, provided there's no sexual activity involved. I'm not even using a child avatar but, a child avatar going to a dance club on Adult land would be perfectly okay, as long as it's not a sex club and as long as no one is ****ing in the club. Even if some patrons are dancing practically nude - Nudity in itself is not considered Adult, and is even allowed on Moderate land.

On 12/16/2021 at 1:24 AM, Dorientje Woller said:

Yeah, sorry to say ... I dj in a place that is set as adult. No matter if you enter that place accompanied with "adult" alts, I will ask you to revert to an adult avatar. If you fail to comply to my request ... I call in the manager to ban you. Period, no discussion about that. That's not that I don't want you to RP your child fantasies, but that is to protect the club from serious troubles with Linden Labs.

As long as you're not engaging in sex as a child avatar, you're good to go, child avatars ARE ALLOWED on Adult regions, and anyone reporting or banning a child for simply being a child (where in my case, I'm not even a child, I'm just realistically life-sized) is just ignorant, discriminatory, and paranoid, and should raise more red flags about the person doing the reporting/banning than the “child” that’s getting reported and banned for simply being a "child".

If you see a child and immediately think about sex and want to report/ban them for what’s on YOUR mind, well, guess what, you’re the perv, not them. Take a good look in the mirror.

Someone has never noticed the dropdowns on the login page.

Who honestly opens those dropdowns before logging in? It's like they're being purposefully hidden. It's not like in the official login screen where you literally cannot miss the news and latest events. On the official login screen, It's like right there, in your face (presented in a clean, informative, and user-friendly manner) when you open the viewer. You literally cannot miss it - even when you don't actively or intentionally look for it, it's there, the news and events catches your eye. That's effective UI/UX design right there, well done Linden Lab!... And last time I checked, FS does NOT include ALL the actual useful, official news and information, only some featured locations, purposefully hidden behind drop-downs and presented on top of ugly eye-sore gradients.

Apologies If I'm wrong, maybe it does have ALL the info? I just haven't actually looked at that nauseatingly hideous Firestorm login screen in a while as it's seriously unpleasant - makes perfect sense that most would not pay attention to it before logging in because it’s not pleasant to look at, and I've set up my Firestorm to show me the actual official login screen instead of that ugly Win/Office95-esque gradient mess. If you'd like to do the same, I've posted a how-to guide here.

Just wish there was also a way to replace the Firestorm login/tp progress floaters text with official LL news/text. If there's a debug setting for that, let me know. I prefer seeing official/useful information in the login/TP progress floaters rather than FS's buggy and unnecessary custom floater text that don't do much but distract from official SL/LL news.

Disclaimer for when the FS dev team eventually stumbles upon this thread… as with my previous FS-related posts and comments; relax, I’m not insulting YOU, I’m not calling YOU ugly/hideous/nauseating. YOU are not a user interface, YOU are a HUMAN; You are a developer, I just think your awesome features need a better UI. You’re great feature developers. Firestorm has amazing features (thank you for that)… you're just in need of some UX guidance, of which plenty have been been provided over the years, even by your own project lead (but ignored, flat out refused, or responded to with sarcasm and actual personal labeling and insults. It’s almost as if you WANT outspoken users to have an unpleasant experience rather than maybe learning from it and improving the UI so that it's not such an ugly, buggy mess...?) 🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

All those tips Firestorm gives us when we log on a great advice of course. But some are more important than others and this is one everybody should know:

    bilde.png.ba396ec02a4d284696132d86bdcf799a.png

So many users miss what is actually going on in Second Life - all the cool, fun, time-limited official events and things because of the FS dev team's odd desire to strip their viewer of everything "official". The nauseatingly hideous FS login screen that's missing all the helpful info such as official Second LIfe news, blogs posts, etc. The login and TP progress floater that's missing official and important Second Life notices and events... And then some forum regulars wonder why the majority of SL users don't even look at the forums or the news/blogs. Well, it's because this hideous but most-used feature-rich viewer is replacing all the useful info with unnecessary eye-sores in an attempt to, I don't know. make it seem like it's NOT Second Life? Or they just seriously hate the Lindens for some reason - which doesn't make sense because, if it weren't for the Lindens, they wouldn't even have this amazing Second life. I seriously don't understand the logic behind all this. And then, what happens when users provide constructive criticism, hoping to inspire positive change and improvement? Their requests are ignored and they're ganged up on by the entire dev team flinging personal insults and labels. It's unfortunate that such an epic, feature-rich viewer has such an ugly, broken UI and is run by such a toxic team.

And then let's not forget that all the cool new features are being presented as being awesome Firestorm features, as if they're only available in firestorm. I see many threads where people say "In firestorm you can.." as if they're unaware that such features are actually copied/merged from the default viewer, Things like; Replacing Links, Using "" and + in inventory search, Moving BOM layers up or down to select which layer goes on top of the other, and soon (maybe coming to FS as well?)... Another feature that's available on the default SL viewer first: 360-degree snapshots. But because the firestorm team hides most official news and information, the majority of users will think it's a cool new Firestorm-only feature if and when it eventually makes its way into the Firestorm viewer.

That said, Firestorm does have some awesome features that's not in the LL viewer like, the built-in AO, built-in radar, and the favorite wearables folder/button. It's just unfortunate that we're all forced to use this ugly, buggy UI in order to have access to those awesome features. Dear Lindens. please put the viewer-side AO, radar, and favorite attachments folder/button in the official viewer. Then we can enjoy awesome features in the awesome default viewer UI that is beautiful and modern, without having to deal with the UGLY and official LL news/info-omitting FS... that'd be super rad.

And now... */me braces himself for some more personal attacks, name-calling/labels from the Linden-hating FS team since they're incapable of listening to, or acting on unhappy user feedback without making the user feel belittled, hated, and unwelcome*

It's the same with Protected Roadside plots. Buyers should always check the land properly before they buy because there are so many plots claiming to be Protected Roadside when they're not.

Yeah, what frustrates me is when searching for "roadside" land for sale. Seeing sales listings with "roadside" in the title, but then the parcel is on the opposite end of the region, far away from the road. If you sell mainland, please stop labeling your properties "roadside" if they're not right next to the road. Even having a 512sqm parcel between your "for sale" parcel and the road is NOT roadside. Roadside literally means; on the side of the road, like, parcel border touching the road, with nothing in between the parcel and the road. Pull up land search and you'll see there are way too many properties for sale that claim to be roadside but they're NOT.

Related: I wish the Lindens would create new mainland regions (or update some of the vast open spaces on the existing mainland - Can I do that? Where do I apply to become a mole?), themed with roads, parks and foliage, like Bellisseria, but with different sized empty parcels for sale rather than the pre-made houses. Like, give us roads and other infrastructure between parcels. The mainland doesn't have enough of that. One road circling an entire continent is not enough. I dream of owning a lovely mainland parcel with protected roads surrounding it - kind of like Bay City. Make all new/future mainland continents like that. I would've totally purchased some Bay City land if it weren't ridiculously overpriced due to its rarity. Having more of mainland themed like that would level the playing field, bring down those ridiculous properly prices, and maybe even make more people consider mainland parcels. The only time I would ever consider buying a parcel is if it's connected to protected infrastructure.

Regardless, I don't appreciate your attempt to refute what i say by making pathetic, absurd and false accusations. I'm done on this thread, enjoy your blissful ignorance.

It wasn't an accusation, it was a question. I just found it absurd because in all my travels, I've never come across anything THAT out of theme in Bellisseria... Or really anything out of theme. Sure, I haven't been everywhere yet, and I'm sure there are some violations out there, but I drive and fly around nearly every day, and everywhere I've been, everything looked in-theme and beautiful. Really the only things that are an eye-sore for me are full-bright plants and trees - Driving around at night and suddenly being nearly blinded by a palm tree - but full bright anything (except flames or actual light bulbs, that are ON) is a personal pet peeve and is not necessarily out of theme nor against any other Covenant regulation, is it? So what some users on here claim is a big problem, doesn't seem to be such a big problem at all, and is perhaps highly exaggerated, or the Moles are just doing an epic job at swiftly cleaning up reported violations (If that's the case, thank you for that,  Moles, you're awesome!).

There would also need to be a new covenant specifically for commercial regions since currently, you cannot have a shop that exchanges goods for Linden dollars.

Yes, exactly; There would need to be a covenant specifically tailored for Commercial Use with its own rules, and regulations.

It wouldn't become mainland. However there would HAVE to be strict policing of the commercial regions.

No more than is necessary with Linden Homes. And the same procedures could apply.

Also, if a shop sells things that go outside... if they aren't in the theme of the area they're in... wouldn't that make the area ugly?

The covenant could state that it must be in theme, or structure the shop layouts in such a way that it's not possible to place anything outside the shop; where the front door ends by the parcel border. In an previous reply I did mention the idea of Scripted signs outside allowing shop owners to load their store logo into the sign, and that being the only thing visible from the outside. (Just an idea)

I just don't see Moles or Lindens having the time to do all those things,

What things? Again, how would this be different from the setup of Linden Homes? Yes they are busy working on expanding Linden Homes now, hence I put "Future" in the OP title. But eventually, working on this would be no more work than the setup, maintenance, and covenant rule enforcement of Linden Homes. Yes, they would have to come up with new themes, new shop builds, a new covenant - similar work load than setting up a new Linden Homes theme. But at the end of the day, literally the only difference here would be that commercial activity would be allowed.
