You would have had to have been there to believe some of thing things I've seen actually happened. :S

I was there, I was snickering at you pulling shoes out of your bottom while I was trying to select earrings and necklaces out of my own

  2. I have always wished that SL would create a out of world sign in feature that instead of you just making a name and choosing an avatar would actually make you 'build' your look, realise what your name is for, interact with items and understand what things are, how to move items, rez an item, unpack an item, all in the actual website and that when you are finished each level the end is the log in, so you come in on the move, you are ready, you have ideas, and you understand what a store is, how to buy things, even going so far as to make people BUY their look instead of just choosing it, not to spend real funds but just to know how to interact with a vendor.

There would be so much more insight into Second Life that way and if they didn't get as far, then they don't create an account that sits there to never be used again.

Kind of like a driving school simulation.

    Hello everyone.

The reason as to why I am making this post is because at school we have been assigned to do a project about SecondLife, where we can choose to focus on one specific topic.
I have chosen to go with education. Like how it works to get an education at a university or college, how the "classes" work, things of that nature. Basically, how it works.

Since we just started this project today and I have only heard of SL before, but have never played it until today, where I was only in for a brief period, and I didn`t know what I was doing, like at all. So, I have no idea how all of this works.

I would really appreciate if you could write about your experiences with taking an education in Second Life, so that I could potentially use it in my project.

    Thank you in advance.

As mentioned there are some universities that have used Second Life for Education etc, but as far as I know you can only access them as a student, as in private locked down from any other residents. What you may have to do if this is the area you want to research is to find out who still has campuses here, if they are still actively teaching and contact them in RL and seek out the ability to be invited as a guest as I can imagine they would want to help a student with such a project.

I really hope that your 'school' is not High School, because while you can enter Second Life as a 16 year old, it is a very in your face environment and with no proper direction your teacher really did just dump you all in it. Also if it is a class project I would suggest grouping up with others, so that you are not going it alone.

I was not bald. And I had both shoes! Not my fault SL decided to stick them up my rear end. shiftyeyes.gif.028350dd6ad58772aac419f7e7f37927.gif

also not your fault that you would randomly kiss your ankles I bet too :P  (that was the most horrifying bug of the past decade, it happened to me last year once and it was the GASP heard around the world. It did not stay though thank goodness, I could not have survived that bug again lol

I don't mean to bump this thread up again, but ever since this thread,I kind of got curious of what all could be done with the RLV stuff..

There is lots of cool things that can be done with these remotes and stuff that doesn't have anything to do with getting captured.. Like setting up huds and things with chat commands..

I'm sure there is other ways to do it,but toying around with them the past couple of days, once i got the hang of it,it is really user friendly..I like not having to have all my huds on my screen like I normally have them because I am in them all the time. now I just type in a couple words and they pop up..the same with outfits and things ..Not even having to open my inventory...

I just keep all those capture things off and they can't get me..hehehehe

When it first came out, I was so excited imagining how much use it could have. I imagined fashion shows where two or three dressers controlled everyones outfits and the models only had to concentrate on walking, everything else would happen for them. Unfortunately lag could mean a model may end up walking the runway bald with one shoe, but not like that has never happened with sl bugs before

Kitty sits on "donate tier" button in groups so Sasy cannot see it anymore.

Lol I know it is there 😁 I was thinking bigger one off situations, someone wanting to donate tier for  a fundraiser or charity event, and know LL is getting it, or a few friends chip in for a present etc, something you dont have to join a group for or be a premium member.

I don'T know if this exist or not as I never owned land or highly unlikely that I ever will.

But is there a system where you can pay with a gift card and if not why not (also if not it is my intellectual property from now on).

    - You cold gift rent for somebody.

    - Would make it easy to have a rent period as a raffle or contest prize.

    - Possible to sell it on the market place. And having it on the public wish list.

And most of the script already exist as a vendor script just need to adjust a bit.

I do accept money for my idea or gift cards.

I used to have a trental system on my old sim that allowed others to pay rent for someone, so alts, store managers etc could make sure paid. Along the same kindness of others concept, but it was a good idea, would be nice in form of tier not rent, so people could pay into tier etc.

I'm really interested in building for SL... and well, one way to build houses efficiently and something I already know how to use proficiently is The sims 2, 3, and 4 build mode... I'm not worried about textures and whatnot, all I want is the model... I was wondering if there was a way to export a sims house file from the game and a simple way to convert it using something like blender to upload it as a mesh object for SL? Any help is greatly appreciated! If not, is there any programs I could use that would be similar to the sims style grid builder (With walls, floors, and roofs)? something I could potentially use without it costing an arm and a leg to use?

When I came to Second Life from only ever having played Sims Original I was so sad to find out I could not drag a line across the ground and build a mansion :D  I would not imagine it possible as Chic mentioned their TOS while the walls may not be so proprietary the windows and fixtures definitely would be. Blender is free, and while it would be you making the items, it may be the best route to look into. There are architecture software programs out there also, but those being able to be mesh for in world is doubtful. You could try just using the old fashioned SL prims in world, build up an idea and then export to your PC and re-open in blender to fix it up, that may be more intuitive for you in the beginning.

p.s because I like embarrassing myself in here...when I used to build in Sims I found their wallpaper generator and not knowing anything about copyright and so on, my bathroom was wall papered with David Boreanaz in the Bath :D

Granted, you'll find it on the street, under a dog poop.

I wish Second Life will have a give away of free annual premium memberships.

Granted  - but they will only give them to people that have never registered an avatar ever new users only with limitations to 2 hours per day usage

I wish individual folders in inventory had their own search option

    Hi Everyone,

I have a Maitrya body with slink feet.

Have noticed that whilst applying stockings I end up with a slight gap where the bottom of the leg meets the top of the foot.

Im using the omega applier hud for the Maitreya body.  Have included a pic so uou can see.

I am expecting that this is most likely an obvious fix so apologies if Im appearing a little thick here😯 Can anyone help please?

Many thanks in anticipation of the usual brilliant solutions😊

    Snapshot_017.png

The body fits the feet at skin layer they don't match up on clothing layers, you can see it on the leg the difference in the layer, if you want to mix the two go without stockings

I don't watch it anymore anyways..There are so many good shows out there now that if one falls off the radar there is always one to fill the gap..

Actors are becoming like many musicians nowadays..just flashes in the pan..The staying power is nothing like it used to be..So it's no biggy really hehehehe

There are a few shows now I can't watch because of stuff like that , but you did nothing wrong mentioning it. It is a great show.

I knew about his being fired (and why) before I saw the episode. As a survivor, I was glad to see him go. IMO, it improved the show. I watch it for Sam anyway. It's amazing that he is still a hunk at 74. 5660-1316172955.gif.ecef8a0513448b74e97fcc88738c76b8.gif

I had missed it somehow, so watched had all the emotion then took a second hit....I only kept watching for Sam too, he owns that show. I want him and Bradley Cooper to do a prequel as brothers to their movie, even tweeted the request.

He is also one of the very few who have been allowed an on screen exit.

That was why I got so mad that they made me feel for the loss, I know it was the character, but it really felt too much, and the Dax comes in and is hell rude to the guy at the bar and I was furious. I really loved that show, but this season was just damaged imo.

Love me some Paul Hollywood. He can do no wrong in my eyes.

On another streaming note. I have Amazon through my Amazon prime account and I love Man in the High Castle and Bosch too. Prime has some good shows too.

Man in the High Castle is EPIC the opening credits is just everything. I have been letting it sit because I am a binger and did Season One too fast. I love Prime, I get so much out of all the services that it is well worth it for me, and they really have some amazing Prime exclusives, Marvelous Mrs Maisel cannot believe I forgot to mention that one also, and Jack Ryan another binged too fast. Covert Affairs I liked very much also

I am kind of teasing but was seriously shocked at the time he was promoting his trip to Paris though, I wish I was close enough to not go to places :P

are you in the UK ? and you trained trained, I am just surprised it is not part of the curriculum, and the guy has a TV Show and is like a top chef, I don't know you people that live too close to other places take too much for granted ...huffs and waves at the Kangaroo jumping past her window (not really)

British Bake off has me mesmerized right now.

I have watched a bit of that show, but I was once watching some doco on chefs or something and the guy from that show was going to Paris FOR THE FIRST TIME and I was appalled, how can you be a pastry chef in the UK and in your late 40's early 50's maybe (not sure he looks one of those ) and not have been to Paris ?????? Even I have been to Paris and it is a much longer trip from here to the UK to Dover to Paris and back again sheeesh so lazy (snickers) but seriously, it makes no sense to me, it should be like a law or something, even the school he attended should have popped over my cousin studied French in Ireland and they went on a school excursion when she was 14 what was wrong with that man - rant over because way too many feelings about this :P

Uhm...does it count, if I say I currently rewatch Disneys "Gargoyles" on DVD? Childhood nostalgia hit me and I got both seasons as a christmas gift.

it definitely counts, it probably counts even more because you have to get up and insert a dvd ♥

There was this really good series about these two guys that went around interviewing serial killers..It was based in like the 1960's I think..But I can't remember the name of it to save my life..

Mind Hunter it was on my list it is awesome isn't it :) no new seasons yet,  the rooster thing :( I was devastated and then I did some reading because it did not make sense, and then it made a lot of sense why he was gone, but I felt very angry that they started the new season (before I did reading ) in such a emotionally charged way I was sobbing my heart out a few episodes in and then was like OH HELL NO.

Pretty sure "Handmaid's Tale" is on Hulu in the US; it's on Crave here in Canada.

I'm amazed that a current thread about Netflix mentions neither Fyre nor Bird Box. (Not a fan of the latter, but I actually enjoyed Fyre -- although the whole time it reminded me of both the Sansar project schedule and a prominent politician I like to call "Peaches".)

I watched the Fyre Documentary too it was enthralling what a situation. Bird Box is good but honestly with all the challenges it kind of knocked it off my train of thought but I was also myself only listing TV Shows to get more bang for your buck. I am a big fan of Sandra ever since she did 'The thing called Love" with River and Samantha and Dermot, she almost stole that movie IMO (yes I am on a first name basis with all of them 😛 )

I wish we had Hulu here, maybe now that they see how much we are willing to spend on telly they will come a calling

I prefer text because I can always clean up my thoughts before I share them. My communication is more articulate, accurate, and meaningful. Unlike when you voice and let things flow freely and sometimes slip up.

I type and press enter like a crazy person, even faster than I talk and honestly I could have been an Auctioneer. But I do not swear in text and yet in voice I do so a lot, the more comfortable I am with someone the worse I am, it is a very odd thing, because the people I love the most get a sailor and I don't know why, other than I completely let my guard down and turn into someone very potty mouthed.

Same here. Secondly, I think it adds to the immersion.

Third, I like to keep chat logs - which would be moot using voice.

And fourth, Voice isn't working best on my Linux machine anyway, so keeping Voice running always is a hassle, that's why I just listen if I have to. On my own ground, however, Voice is off entirely.

Chat logs all the way, especially when doing any work in Second Life, because you need to either go back to or help someone else with what was said in the past.

It's interesting how intimate and personal voice is considered to be in SL (for me as well), when in RL, it would mean absolutely nothing at all. One of the reasons why SL relationships are so intense. Things that are utterly weightless in RL become loaded with meaning here.

I found this comment really true....years ago when SL had no voice I had many friends for years, and then we got voice and we got into a call with someone that we had known and adored for a long time and as soon as she started to speak I started to bawl like a baby. I have no idea why other than it was just suddenly so real, and she sounded like I had always imagined in my head, she was an incredibly lovely lady and it just all came together and I lost it lol.

The other part is what you said about loaded here etc. I often find the it fascinating that anyone thinks relationships on the internet are not real, not anything much etc, when I spend upwards of 6 hours every day in the past it used to be 16 hours straight every day, in voice in skype though not SL with my besties and my partner group calls where our thing forever and Whimsy and I can sit in a call doing our own thing for hours and only talk when we need to say something, companiable silence etc. But in RL I have never had a relationship with anyone that would be continous talking sharing and so into eachothers lives day in and out, days may pass, getting together may mean going out but conversation would be an hour tops and not all in one go usually.

Second Life is pretty darn special !

but even if you are run over by a bus and recover with total amnesia of your former self your government will provide you with some kind of identification...

is that true ? why don't they ever show that in the movies, or is that where all the john and jane does come in. I am genuinely curious on what they do in that matter.

I also do not understand where being born has to do with anything, people are born in Taxis, does not mean they don't register the birth. People are born at home etc same thing, someone registers their birth. Regardless of single parentage, or being an anarchist, you have to have had some civilisation at some point to be on a computer at this time logging into a virtual world. Money to buy the PC, how are the utilities payed, didn't you have to have ID for that ?

I am not having a go at the OP at all, I am just wondering how it is possible, how do you do anything without ID, in my country even in your 50s a bouncer will ask you for ID when entering a bar because it is policy to ask everyone so that no one can slip in underage.

There are so many amazing documentaries, I have never been a fan in the past, but the netflix ones are amazing I have watched more in the past few years than in my whole life.

  23. Modeling is a very complicated thing to get into in Second Life, because you need to know a lot about how things work, to be able to modify items, colour match, walk a runway with lag from the depths of hell, you have to have animations and poses and lots of things available to be a model and know how to use them. You also need to have a pretty decent inventory, because if someone is hiring you for a photo shoot for a product, you usually will have to have the other items to make the shot look great...such as hair options, skins, shoes etc. The courses are for different people, and I am sure can be helpful, but modeling and shows are a whole other community compared to shop models and the such and sometimes shop models are just people that stand around AFK in a store showing off an item, and again you have to look good while doing so.

If you are new new, I suggest spending some time learning Second Lifes quirks, so that you are an asset to any one seeking someone that knows things. I also suggest learning how to take your own pictures so you have a portfolio of work, different looks, to show you have an eye yourself for what someone may be looking for. Spend some time looking at Flickr groups for Second Life, the stores you wear will have groups also. Attend some fashion shows if that is the kind of modeling you want to do, talk to some models, see what they earn if you have limited time in world you may not want to sacrifice it working for not a lot of money if any money at all, because sometimes it is just items you get to keep.

Good luck in what you are wanting to do
