  1. I currently have a 17" Macbook Pro that's getting ridiculously frustrating to run SL on, as I'd love to get more into photography and machinima inworld but things like shadows and depth-of-field won't work. So, I'm looking at getting a PC laptop just for gaming-- but having always steered clear of PCs I'm not sure what would work with SL. I was considering an Alienware M17x but I've read a couple of things on this forum which worry me about whether SL will run with ultra graphics. Does anyone know if this machine with 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580M graphics card would work with SL? Or if I'd be better going for Radeon HD 6990M? Or some other PC entirely? :smileyembarrassed: Thanks!
  2. Absolutely gorgeous! This is the first issue I've seen of this mag; thanks so much for posting, Vick.
  3. This sounds like a blast-- is lag every an issue while playing?
  4. I am, but it doesn't seem like many people (at least, that I know) use them?
  5. Wow, you look gorgeous, Tako; I especially love the realistic detail in your eyes. Beautiful. My "look" for 2012 is actually to not have a look at all, heh. For the first two years of being in SL I changed my avi very little, and it's only lately that I've gone in all directions at once. I haven't decided yet if this is the equivalent of an SL midlife-crisis or just an excuse to shop more. :smileyvery-happy: In this last one, I'm the horse, not the rider. :smileywink: I bought this avi a while ago purely to take photos of, but received so many compliments on it (and ohmahgah, it's fast/fun to explore sims in!) that I've been wearing it... less closeted-ly. Hee.
  6. Apologies if I'm re-posting a thread that's been hashed into the ground. I've read back a few pages and didn't see one like this, but that doesn't mean my forum-n00bness isn't gleaming through. :smileyvery-happy: Okay, so until recently I'd been too preoccupied in-world to really notice SLers using social media sites like Facebook and Plurk. Now that it's caught my attention, though, I'm sort of happy and lost at the same time. :smileyindifferent: I've always kept a smallish group of friends in SL-- probably 50% art/building contacts, 30% friends and 20% very close friends-- and honestly, anyone I lose touch with I delete without feeling too horrible about. That said, if I were following someone's hilarious Meeroo-breeding-explosion-escapades on Twitter, so something, I'd likely keep said person friended in SL and feel as though I knew what was going on/why they'd been busy. :smileywink: Since some brief quizzing of my friends has shown that hardly any of them use or are interested in using social networking sites for their avatars, if you do use one and are interested in keeping me entertained with whatever SL shenannigans you get up to, or your opinions on fashion or art etc, I'd love to hear. :smileytongue:
  7. And to think I just felt old in owning a legacy name... :smileysad: :smileyembarrassed: I do love hearing the nostalgia of everyone who's been in SL much longer than I, though. As in RL, the "old days" sound much simpler, cheaper, sillier... and yet, slightly unbelievable that people lived like that. :smileyvery-happy:
  8. Oh lord, I find myself needing the opposite of this: friends to keep me from shopping. :smileyvery-happy: Hope you find some good January sales!
