my media plug-in keeps failing

Val is right.  Also note that in order to play Flash format videos (eg YouTube videos), you must have the generic Adobe Flash plugin installed. If you use IE as your web browser and already have Flash, you will need to get the generic Flash plugin; see here. linux users need to have gstreamer installed, with the “bad” plugin set.

When you ask a tech question include information about your computer. If the viewer will at least show the login screen, get the info from the viewer's Help-About... and paste that into your post with your question. To add your info to an existing question use OPTIONS->EDIT. It’s in the upper right of your post.

In this case whether you are Apple or Windows makes a difference.

A simple fix for many is to install the Safari web browser. It cleans up some link and builds some of the 'cross-references' SL needs to have in the computer. On Apple you likely already have it, so you may just need to upgrade Safari. Installing one Windows, whether you ever use Safari or not, seems to cleanup some loose ends for QuickTime and WebKit, the viewer's internal web browser..
