Hello Maya.

Since you can login with other accounts, it sounds that the avatar you're having issues with has corrupted files. Try clearing the cache for this account only from outside SL. Make sure you localize the proper username cache on your hard drive. The instructions below are from Phoenix but work for all viewers.

http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=cache_clear

Make sure you log back in a quiet region once this is done, as explained in the link (you can aslo log in Smith, Pooley or Aqua regions).

Hello Maya and welcome to SL Forums. There are 2 top causes for your problem:

  1. You have corrupted files saved in your hard disk. If so, you will fix the issue if you delete them and download new files. To do that, delete all contests at the following folder: C: \ Users \ (USER NAME) \ ApplData \ Local \ Secondlife After login back in a quiet sim like Smith, Exeuxoa or Anzere. Stay there under the water, open your inventory type something in search there and wait fetching all your items till the last one. When fetching finishes, try to change outfit choosing choosing one with just the necessary stuff (skin, shape, hair, eyes, pants and shirt) without any attachments. Wait some seconds and rebake your textures with Ctrl+Alt+R. Repeat same process if it is necessary. It will fix your issue.
  2. You have problem with your internet connection. If so, you will fix the problem if you fix your internet connection. You can test your internet speed at http://speedtest.net/ If it is too slow (less than 1Mbps), reboot your modem / router leting it closed for at least 2-3 mins and try again. If you use wireless connection, simply avoid it (it is no recommended for SL) and prefer direct cable connection instead. You can experiment also with your maximum bandwidth until to find the best setting for your system (under preferences --> setup).

Suggestions reported in  http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=bake_fail always help of course (and what you have to try at first) assuming that you have no corrupted files and there is no a connectivity problem. Good luck.

When your av does not rez you usually cannot edit appearance. But there are easy fixes to try before resorting to the Test Avatar or clearing the cache. I think of both as more of a last resort. While it is possible to get a corrupt download, it is rare. For some time the Phoenix Team has been fighting the age old advice to clear the cache as a first step fix. With the new large cache a full reload places load on the servers for no good reason.

The quick easy fixes are:

  1. Change your active group - why it works is unclear but it does.
  2. Change the bald you wear - open inventory and select any bald to wear. Using wear from inventory gets around the edit appearance problem.
  3. Wear a different shape, skin, or clothes. Use wear with clothes, not add.

Try those 3 tricks in order. Hopefully you can avoid having to completely rebuild your avatar as a change to the default test avatar requires.

Getting a bit more complex, try these:

  1. Press Re-Bake then in 1 minute do it again and a minute later do it again. This often resolved the problem. If this is the problem you are having, it is a bake-fail. That is often caused by a problem connection. See the next item.
  2. If all the fixes to this point are failing to help, test your connection. Read: Troubleshoot Your #SL Connection
  3. If all the preceding tricks have failed, go for the default/test avatar. Once you have the test avatar on AVOID using an Outfit to restore your look. Add shape, skin, etc. one item at a time. You may find there is a specific item that is causing the rez fail.
  4. Last of all clear the viewer cache - in Preferences (Ctrl-P) on the Setup tab click Reset. Close then restart the viewer. It is ideal to login to a deserted region. But, it is mandatory you not leave whatever region you log into before your inventory finishes reloading. Open your inventory and search for anything to see the load numbers.

Clearing the cashe has solved this problem many, many times for me, however sometimes objects on the AV can be a problem, usually hair, shapes, objects, or HUDs but sometimes clothing. If clearing the cashe does not work change your appearance one item at a time. If you find the offended delete it from your inventory. If you bought it contact the seller for a "possible" replacement. Usually these are freebie items.
