Use my own avatar on my posts instead of those few cartoon ones they lot you choose?

I see so many have their own photos on their posts here.  I want to put my own on but I don;t know how.

Click on My Settings on the top of the screen

 

Click on the Avatars tab.

 

Above the box where it shows the cartoon ones, it says "From the Community" and "From Uploaded Images". Click on the second one.

 

If you haven't uploaded images before it'll direct you to click on the My Images link and will give you directions to upload something.

you may want to read the tutorial for it as well..it can get kind of a pain in the butt

It also helps to take a screenshot of your existing AV space and use it as a template for how things are placed.  I even got a bit silly and the mini icon which overlaps the background image is a copy of that sgment of the image.
