I might be being a bit optimistic here, but are there any search metrics available for the MP or inworld search? Primarily I am looking for a ranked list of search terms executed in the search engines? i.e. what do people search for the most?

I don't remember ever seeing such a report. A RL client I am introducing into SL asked me the question so I thought I would throw it out here.

Cheers

I would love to see search metrics, or at the very least search metrics for how people came to my parcels, alas I've never seen them.

That would be very cool. I did a massive customer survey during 2007 and got about 400 replies. One of the questions I asked was "what brought you to our store" and got a large variety of answers. I was expecting nearly all my traffic to be generated by Search, Classifieds and SLX listings but I was wrong, a lot of traffic was generated by word of mouth, much higher than I had anticipated. Also things like house shows, magazine articles and mall displays and promotional vendors in other stores had a much higher impact on my traffic than I had anticipated. On the other hand I learnt that ad boards (which were like a plague accross the mainland back then) and the my website generated a lot less traffic than I expected. So all in all, very useful data. One answer I remember was from a customer who worked as an Escort. She went back to a client's house to do her 'business' and really liked the building. so as soon as she got paid she teleported over and purchased the house. In a way it made me feel like her pimp :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:.

I guess I was being a tad naive expecting LL to have published search metrics. I'm sure most of us could make an educated guess at the top 10 or 20 search terms but I would really be interested to see some of the less popular search terms for more niche markets or to see how many keywords someone uses in the average search.

I believe they do have surveys you can set up at the landing point . . . hard to explain, but it's a prim object that let's the person click on a spot on the object to say how they came to hear of your place.  Of course, the drawback is that not everyone is going to take the survey.  I'm not sure what those are called though.
