NO! This is a stupid rumour which has been running for ages. You can be away for 40 days, 4 months or 4 years, your account won't be deleted. Just make sure you keep a record of your name and password if you have to be away for a long time, in case you forget them. :smileywink:

Why doesn't this idiotic rumor die?  It has been around since the earliest days of SL and no matter how many times people debunk it, it pops up like Whack-a-Mole.  To quote Rhett Linden (who responded to this question on Sept 21, 2011 to the SL Educators list): "[...] I wanted to set the record straight.  We are not planning to do anything with your accounts or alt accounts.  It's in our interest to ensure you have access to your account."

BASIC accounts are never deleted, or at least not until you've not logged in for several years.

PREMIUM accounts are deleted as soon as you fail to keep up the payments.  This is a hidden drawback of Premium membership.  You'd think LL would have the courtesy to just downgrade you to Basic, but nooooo....

If you cancelled your account and want to reactivate it, you have to open a support case: Problem > Account issue > Reactivate an old account:
