Blackie Lubitsch
Hiya,I have a new gaming laptop (MSI GT683). And Neither the Official Second LIfe viewer, latest Second Life Beta Viewer nor the Firestorm-Beta-Mesh viewers work. No error message is given. They all just load for a second or two and then nothing happens. No error messages.Phoenix viewer 1.5.2 works, but I'd like to use the newer versions.I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version. Isn't Second Life supproted under 64-bit Windows?Blackie
Jean Horten
Viewer 2.x? You're aware of the fact that Viewer 3.2 is the latest release??? J.
Blackie Lubitsch
ah, yes 3.x, didn't notice that. Neither the latest Beta or the latest Stable release works (both versions downloaded today)
LoveAngeL Lyre
Hello Blackie. Of course Windows 7 64bit supported. Sounds like an antivirus or firewall blocks the application.

Blackie Lubitsch
Hi, Thanks for the suggestions but I think the problem is somewhere else. If it were an firewall or an network issue should it at least allow me to try to login? At the moment nothing happens. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials, I really doubt that's blocking it. Anyways I cannot disable it and full uninstall is something I'm not willing to do to. Only Windows Firewall is enabled. Disabling it temporarily makes no difference. Nothing happens when starting 3.x based Second life Clients B
Innula Zenovka
What graphics card are you using? If it's a higher-end Nvidia one, there's a nasty bug that could be responsible: see https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SH-2409 and https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SH-2240
Blackie Lubitsch
It's Nvidia GeForce GTX 570M. Not sure if it counts as high end. EDIT: I'll update the drivers and see if that helps
Innula Zenovka
I think it affects the GTX 460 and upwards. Updating the drivers is, maybe counterintuitively, the last thing you want to do. Essentially, the problem is that some of the graphics features in the newer viewers use OpenGL calls that Nvidia have deprecated in their more recent drivers for the newer cards. There's a fix in QA at the moment, apparently, so with luck we will be able to use newer drivers, but at present I can't run the more recent viewers with any driver more recent than the 260.99 one, which still uses the deprecated calls. I've got a GTX 460 -- I don't know what the equivalent driver would be for your card (or if it would work with a 460). You may find you need to do a completely clean reinstall -- I described at SLU the hoops I had to jump through to get rid of all the bits left behind by what Nvidia thinks is a clean reinstall. Blackie Lubitsch
Thanks. Guess i won't be downgrading my drivers because of this to older ones that were shipped with the laptop. Will be waiting for the upgraded clients. I kinda expect SL to suck these days, it's just sad when it sucks this much.
Hitomi Tiponi
The latest shining-fixes branch of the official development viewer is addressing the openGL graphics driver issue. If you really want the latest viewer then I suggest you try it: http://automated-builds-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/hg/repo/davep_shining-fixes/latest.html though remember that as it is still being worked on it is not an officially supported viewer. Blackie Lubitsch
Thanks. It doesn't have to be the latest and greatest version. But a decently recent version preferably. The link you gave has no downloads yet, guess it's still building. I think I will try if not for nothing else but to check if it fixes this problem. But It didn't really occur to me before that I could try to download some older versions. Found some older versions of the official client from here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Old_versions is there something similar for the Firestorm viewer? There is the previous working version (that has built) at http://automated-builds-secondlife-com.s3.amazonaws.com/hg/repo/davep_shining-fixes/rev/245264/index.html. Blackie Lubitsch
The Developer Build worked. rezzing seemd a lot slower though. Not sure if the Viewer I've been using temporarily (Singularity) is just that much faster, or if it was the downloads in the background. Anyways nice to know that the problem will be fixed. Now I just have figure out again which viewer I really want to use Thanks for the help. Edit: and it was the build linked by Hitomi if anyone cares. Harvey Noel
Hi from France, and sorry for my english... I've got this same problem ; can't run SL since 6 months, but previously was working fine on my Windows 7 premium 64bits SP1. I think effectively this problem is behind my GE Force GT240, i've accepted an automatic update from Nvidia ; i dont know if it came at the same time, but can be true, about 6 months ago. Tried the Second_Life_3-2-2-245264_Developer_Setup, but no difference for me. I'm frozen with that joke ! No SL since months ! I'll follow if an answer appears, but i'll leave if i cant find a solution. Thx for your help, pleasure. Harvey
