Not paying is definitely the worst idea ever because LL will certainly shut down your account then! Better try contacting LL directly. I would first try with billing support:

Have billing issues? Give us a call.

Note that phone support is for billing issues only. If you're having technical issues, please use technical support.

I suspect that you still have land tier donated to the old group(s):

  • Land tier donated to a group is always considered active, whether or not it's currently being used to hold land; in other words, land tier donated to a group always counts toward your own peak usage, and you are responsible for paying the associated fees.
  • If you are a group owner and plan to shut a group down, you should immediately withdraw donations from the group in order to avoid unexpected tier charges during the shutdown waiting period.

Try looking into one of these two possibilities:

Last month, I had to sell group deeded land back to myself and deed it to another group twice.  The first time, when I checked my tier level, it had been raised to the next one.  But I was able to manually change it back to what it was supposed to be (I have to say, I'm not sure if I was actually still charged for it, but it is a distinct possibility).

The second time it never change which I found strange because it was the same exact land and I didn't do anything differently.  So you need to check and see if you can change it back manually and hope you aren't charged.

Also, when you have land deeded to a group, your land usage amount is deducted a certain percentage, in essence allowing you to purchase more land before you hit the next tier level.  In which case, if you were close enough to the next tier level, selling your land to yourself may have pushed you into the next level, because then the deduction wouldn't apply any longer.

What both of us may have done wrong is explained in the wiki here.  We probably should have removed our land group contribution before we bought it back from our group.  Unfortunately, I didn't read this before, so I guess we've both learned something here.

Good luck ...Dres

Edited for clarity and stuff.

If the 1st or 2nd group still exist, go to the Group Info page > Land tab & remove your contribution from there.

Your charges are based on the total of land (in your name) and contributions to groups. It sounds like you have contributed to 2 groups at the same time.

Also contact support for a refund as they will be able to see that you are paying for the same land twice.

@Dres, sometimes its not always clear in groups who's donatiions are paying for what land & if the group regularly buys & sells land it can be messy. But from what the OP described here, the same land was passed from group to group with the same owners & it will be very clear to LL that double charging has happened. If your case was clearcut too, contact support, 2 months isn`t that long ago & it can`t hurt to ask. :)
