Question

OK, so I have a Masters Degree, professional adult who MODS Elder Scrolls on a gaming PC.  Just want to get that out there, not bragging just setting the tone.  I had a functioning avi and left, then I logged back in at the Blues place and my clothes were, you know showing my skin, so I was going to re load, but a friend told me to rebake.  So I did that.  Now, for the life of me I cannot rebuild my Legacy Body, Luleka head, and Gianni skin.  In fact, there are other issues...

1) My HUDs are not responding to my mouse clicks.  I can remove them and get them back, but my mouse pointer will not interact with the HUD or unminimize the HUD.  I don't know if I'm in an area that allows scripts, I was at "home" and at the Fog Blues Bar.  So please don't ask me if I am in an area that allows scripts, I dont know, nor do I know how to find out  lol

2) I can get some things back, but, my legs (not feet or hips those are fine), my legs are invisible.  I can cover them with pants, but my legs are invisible.

This all happened after the suggestion to REBAKE.  ugggg.  I have reloaded a lego Avi and started over following specific directions on youtube that I followed this morning and it does not work.

3) I cleared my cache, and I deleted and reinstalled SL, (not firestorm) and this has not helped.

Any ideas please, this is why I quit 3 years ago, I don't want to again.

Thanks JJBrian

P.S. I forgot, I am also getting this error on log in

Script trying to take controls from owner but PERMISSION_TAKE_CONTROLS permission not set!

And this link means nothing to me lol

Hi, JJ, and welcome back to SL.

You may be at godlike level in Elder Scrolls, but you have some basic stuff to learn about Second Life still. No criticism implied.

Script-enabled land: Up in your top menu bar, just to the right of the last displayed menu, some little icons will often be seen, like in the example below:

V1.23_Top_Menu_Bar_Left.jpg

These are "parcel restrictions"...no fly, no build, no push, and no scripts. The above example shows no build and no push; the no scripts one looks like a little page with the universal "No" symbol.

Invisible legs (or other bits): Second Life uses some awful hacks, and one of these is in regards to avatar attachments. When our 3D mesh clothes are attached to our avatars, they become phantom. That is, they do not collide with our bodies, or the bodies of others, or with other objects. This means that when we move, our bodies will often poke through our clothes.

To fix this, we make the parts of ourselves that are covered by clothes invisible. There are two ways in which we do this.

 1. Alpha masks. An alpha mask is a special clothing layer. In your inventory, it has the symbol of a shirt with a grid pattern on it. To see if you have any alpha masks on, look in your inventory, in the Worn tab, or in your Current Outfit folder. To remove one, right click it in your inventory and choose Take Off or Remove from Current Outfit.

2. Mesh Body HUDs. Your Gianni body comes with a control HUD. It has several sections, but the one we're interested in is this one:

06301-29df8713-8460-41e5-b191-4474faffbb

This controls what parts of your body are invisible, if you don't happen to have an alpha mask handy.

"But my HUDs aren't working!" I hear you moan. Remember that "no script" icon we talked about? If you see one of those, you can do one of two things. Fly up to above 100m or so, and your HUDs will start working again (they'll turn back off when you return to the ground). Or, you can go elsewhere.

But, if you don't see that "no script" icon, you may have a different problem. There is a known issue where, if you should experience a hard crash, any HUDs you are wearing may get permanently broken. The solution to this is to delete the HUD(s) you are wearing and put on a fresh copy from the backup you have in your inventory.

Oh, you don't have a backup? Then you can go to the store you bought the thing from and get a re-delivery, in most cases. The Marketplace has a re-delivery function, too.

ok .. a bit in contradiction with the try to level op your image.

First and quite important question : are you on script enabled land? All other guesses to solve it won't work if you are.
You can see it at top of your viewer.

Have also a look at your connection. Restart your modem/router.

Lindal Kidd,

Thank you for the very efficient and accurate response.  You have solved it for me.  Thank you for policing these forums and constructively helping users.  And you did so in a non condescending way.  No digs, no insults.  I appreciate that. I hope you have a wonderful day or night wherever you are.
