The suggestion to re-size the image is valid. Here's why.

You can upload any image of 1024x1024 pixels or less to SL. However, if the image has dimensions that are other than a power of 2 (256 x 512, 512x64, 1024x1024, etc.) then SL will re-size it for you...and SL's resampling engine is not very good. Your picture will probably wind up looking blurry.

To avoid this, whatever your initial image's dimensions are, re-size it before you upload it, making both dimensions a power of 2. This will make the image look squashed or stretched, but it's OK. Once you upload it to SL, and paste it on a prim of the appropriate height and width, or paste it into an image area of your profile, it will be automatically stretched back out to the correct aspect ratio.

However, another point to consider is that images of the maximum quality, 1024x1024, can put significant stress on your internet connection and your graphics card. Don't upload textures at anything higher than what you really need. In the case of a Profile Pick image, note Rolig's dimensions. Don't upload anything higher than 512 x 256.
