Strange marketplace issue

Question

So I came across a strange marketplace technical issue and I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing. Basically I created this new account the other day, it's sort of a joke account for a friends rez day and it was suppose to be a turkey because of some joke we had going on.

Anyway, so I gave the account L$3000 and went onto marketplace and tried to purchase two things, a turkey avatar and a mesh turkey collection by JIAN.

I put them in my basket and checked out, the total coming to L$850. I then waited in-world for the items to be delivered but they never arrived, so I then went back onto marketplace and went to my order history, hoping to redeliver the items, yet my order history was strangely blank and marketplace showed my linden balance as L$3000 still, so I assumed the transaction hadn't gone through.

I then reordered the items and again the same thing happened, no delivery, yet this time I noticed that my in-world linden balance had gone down by L$1700. I again checked my marketplace order history, refreshing it a few times even, and again it was completely empty, yet when checking my Transaction History on secondlife.com, it showed the transactions and their purchase order numbers, etc.

Since this happened and I lost L$1700 lindens, I decided to open a ticket and have tried to raise the issue with LL, only to be told that the items were in-fact delivered, only that they were delivered to an ALT of mine. They claim the items were gifted to my ALT, yet I never gifted them, proven by the fact my order history is blank. They've also tried to suggest that maybe I was logged into marketplace with the wrong account, even though the money was taken from this account...

So yeah, it's odd and I've never experienced it before and wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if this is really Linden Labs response, where their system has glitched but the customer is basically left out of pocket and just has to accept it? I mean it's only L$1700, but the principle of it seems wrong, doesn't it? It also makes ordering things from marketplace a risk if you use ALTs, since their system can randomly just deliver it to the wrong account?

LL treats all accounts, including alts, as separate entities. You should be able to show them, with your transaction history and your alts' history(s) that it was ugutheturkey who made the purchases, and the items were not delivered to you or your alts, or at least to an alt who was the wrong destination.

Be sure to examine your $L Transaction Histories very carefully. Be sure they support your version of events, not LL's.

Continue to press them.  If the money came out of your account, it will show on your L$ Transaction History and on the MP Order History. 

Did an Alt get the items?  If so, that can complicate things, but the Order History (when it finally shows up) will show whether the items were gifted or not.

I've shown them the purchase history from this accounts transactions, with the order #'s and everything. I've also shown his marketplace order history as being blank, yet like I said they're trying to claim it was a gift, yet it 100% wasn't and a gift would still show in my order history. It's still an on-going ticket, so perhaps they will see sense. Their only suggestion so far is that I contact the in-world store owners and explain the situation to them. But I don't see how it's their issue.

But besides that the issue is odd, isn't it? It raises issues with buying things on marketplace in general like I said, if you're using ALT accounts and this sort of thing can happen. It's also a privacy issue if I do contact the store owner and explain, and give them the transaction information, then they suddenly know the name of my ALT account. Not that I care personally about that, but in principle it's true.

The ALT did get the items, twice, and it's showing in their order history. But the transactions are showing on this account and the lindens were taken from this account, it's just strange. And sure you could say I received the items on one of my accounts at least, but it wasn't the account I purchased them on and they have no use on that account, so I still feel like in principle I should either get the lindens back or have the items correctly placed onto this account.

I think I remember someone else having this problem here lately but can not find the post 🤔 so there is something wrong on SLs side but them not even thinking about that possibility makes it hard for them to find a fix for a possible bigger problem. I would keep talking to them ...maybe try several days in live chat, different Lindens have different approaches and different specialisations. Some are better with one thing and some are better with the other.  💜

Ended up receiving a refund of my lindens. In the end they explained it was a "rare but known marketplace issue where Marketplace orders are charged to one account, but somehow recorded by the Marketplace as having been made under an alternate account."

So yeah, just thought I'd provide an update for anyone interested and also in case someone else has the same issue in the future. Definitely create a ticket since LL will help and refund you.

I've gotten to where I try to keep my accounts separated on different browsers.  This account only ever logs on to my Dashboard, the MP and these forums via Chrome.  My selling alt only logs on with my Firefox browser and my other alts - that never do anything but log to their Dashboard - all log in via Edge.  That keeps the cookies separated, hopefully preventing this sort of mix-up.
