Why bother?  If it's a Premium account, dowgrade to Basic now and leave any groups that normally charge you a liability so that you don't incur any  further charges.  Then just walk away.  Leave your alt in the closet until you need it again some day.  Thing is, if you close the account and then want to reinstate it later, LL will charge you $9.95.  If you just keep the account dormant, on the other hand, its inventory and L$ balance will remain intact and it won't cost you a thing.

Hello Randy. Sure you can do it, although no reason to close it. (Dashboard --> Account --> Cancel Account)
