Real Estate business, still profitable?

Hello. I was thinking to open a small real estate business. Not a rental one, but more like a buy empty land -> build on it -> resell built land at a higher price. Is this something still profitable in SL? Thank you for your help!

The land business in general is not what it used to be. Profits are down, land prices are down, rental prices are down.

IMO people who are buying land are not going to value the land higher if the land is "done". This is a generalization, but broadly true enough to not make it a good business model.

My recommendation to anyone looking to start a business in sl, is will this make you happy even if it does not make money? If the answer is yes, go for it. If not, and it would cost real life money, don't do it.

The few SL users who actually wish to own land (as in not rent from another resident) typically want to develop it themselves.

I think you should try it first in small batches and see how it goes. There is so much overpriced empty land for sale even in this "buyer's market" that you could only add value. Make sure that the build is transferable so it sells with the land, you have that option on the 'about land' menu.

I sometimes see some very nice options that have sold in this manner but I see so much awful stuff that I hope you can improve the market.
