We guys are all SL residents, just like you.  Lindens never come here, and we can't charge you anything.

In fact, Linden Lab didn't either.  When you register a payment method, Linden Lab follows a standard business procedure to verify that your payment method is valid and that it is capable of making instant payments and accepting instant refunds.  Basically, what they do is to send an authorization request for payment of $1.  No money actually changes hands, but it shows up on your statement as something that looks like a charge.  If Linden Lab gets a response instantly, your payment method is approved.  If not, it's rejected.  That would happen if you used a debit card or a prepaid credit card of some kind, neither of which is allowed. In that case, you didn't actually pay for your premium membership yet, so you are still a Basic member until you register a valid payment method.

Hi llaneel,

We're residents, just like you. Linden employees rarely, if ever, visit here. The 1.00 charge you mention is the test transaction that is often done to verify a credit card account. It should be followed by a credit shortly thereafter. If that 1.00 test transaction failed, you would not be billed for the quarter of premium membership, and you'd still be a basic member.

Make sure that your method of payment is acceptable to LL. They do not allow the use of prepaid credit cards, only major name full credit cards, Paypal and Skrill are valid.
