If you can get a SL viewer to run on a tablet, you will probably find that it will be a much lower quality experience than you would expect from a real computer.  Second Life is a graphics-intensive environment that puts a heavy load on any computer's graphics system. You may also find that you have connectivity issues because you will be using a wifi Internet connection -- not recommended or supported by Linden Lab.  You may have the best luck with one of the third-party viewers designed for limited-use devices like mobile phones.  You'll find them at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory

What is your tablet's operating system?   If it's an Android, Lumiya is very good indeed.  You have to pay for it but it's only one off payment -- no more than a beer or a cup of decent coffee.   It doesn't do everything the full viewer does, but it's very good for just hanging out with friends or doing a bit of shopping or sightseeing.
