Any computer with a Thunderbolt port (Most current Apple products) can do this via that port and an external chassis. My boarder currently uses his Macbook Pro to connect to a six card PCI-E chassis containing some audio DSP cards and a graphics adapter.

Yes but there's a significant difference in the age and price of the technologies.

The item I linked is $60 and working with a 9 year old laptop vs thunderbolt equivalent which is 3 to 4 times the price and thunderbolt has only been around for 4 years as a technology but yes, same result. I hadn't seen anything for mini PCI before.
