A vendor is an inworld scripted object that usually displays the items it has to vend, accepts payment for those items, and delivers the purchased items. Just like a vending machine. Many commercial vendors are available on the Second Life Marketplace (see http://tinyurl.com/4qzvszn ).

Alternately, one can build their own vendor using example scripts available in the LSL script library or elsewhere online.

I would caution folks purchasing a vendor system to check the number of scripts the vendor uses - many are very script heavy and contribute to lag, especially in mall environments where many vendors are deployed.

Guess you mean a vendor, is an object to sell your things. There are some with scripts inside, but the easy way (and less laggy) is just selling your items in boxes. Just drag inside contents tab of an object the item you want to sell and set that objet for sell.

Go to this page to see a video and more info to start selling in SL http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-objects/ta-p/700143

Hello,

Think of it as a display rack for your store.

Most people renting malls ask you to put your wares in a vendor because it saves on prims, especially if you are in a large place with only small stalls or storefronts.

Some of them will keep tabs on sales for you by being connected to third-party sites -- that can be useful for monitoring your business.

You should start as simply as possible and experiment so you don't frustrate and confuse yourself needlessly -- loading and managing these things can be a bit tricky, but basically they involve just inserting one prim into another while paying attention to the "contents" tab.

I have free vendor boxes of different styles available at Memory Bazaar, the Ross infohub, in the marketplace by the stacks of tea crates. But these are sort of simple and old-fashioned. They will do the trick, but you might want to go to SL Marketplace on this site, and study the variety of options of vendors available for sale from different companies.

They will have different features, for example, some of them even display a version of the object like a hologram, called "holovendors" (not all malls allow these as they at least temporarily take up prims).

There are vendors that have pictures and prices, that display different ways and some even let the shopper type in a key word and it will bring up that object.

You want to sell things that you have made?

A vendor is just an object (much like a vending machine in RL) where you put your items in it and people can scroll through them and buy them, but you don`t need to use a vendor to sell things. You could just open a little shop and put your items in boxes and set the boxes for sale or place your items on the Marketplace. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Selling-in-the-Marketplace/ta-p/700193

In addition to the answers above:

You can sell on the marketplace (SL's ecommerce platform) by logging-in there - click 'Shopping' at the top of this page - and getting one of their 'magic boxes'.

When you have a box, rez it and put your the items you wish to sell in there then use the marketplace (again) to list each item in a particular category, give it a description, price, etc.

(And to summarise the ways of selling things in SL itself):

  1. REALLY simple - put the item on display in your land, edit it and check the 'for sale' box on the general tab.  Enter a price.  For most things you'll want it to sell copies but if you have something unique - say a piece of art - you can set it to sell the original itself.
  2. More flexible - Put collections of items that you want to sell together into a box.  Decorate and shape this box as an advert for the products inside.  Set it 'for sale' as in 1. above but set it to sell contents.
  3. Vendors - Are quite like in 2. but have added flexibility, like letting the customer view/select different products, handing out notecards with information about the products, etc.  This is all done by the scripts (programmes) inside the vendors so you don't need to set anything 'for sale'.  Make sure you get instructions for how to configure the vendor with prices, demos, notecards, etc.  You can either buy or make a vendor.
  4. Network vendors - Another advance from 3.  Here you put all the items into a 'server' box and may have many 'vendor' boxes displayed anywhere in SL (that you are allowed to).  However many vendors you have and wherever they are you only need to keep and maintain your items in the one server location.  Most systems allow and expect you to have more servers though, for backup in case the main one 'dies' for any reason.
