If you really want to change outfits with a HUD, you can't do it by moving things into or out of your inventory.  LSL won't do that. If you wanted to wear only mesh or prim items and if they were modifiable, you could load them up with scripts and drop them into the contents of a HUD, to be rezzed and attached on demand.  That's a bit clunky but doable.  If you're only dealing with a few items, though, it's not bad.  You could also simply put full alpha scripts in all your work items and switch the alpha ON/OFF on individual items as you want them to show.  That's what a lot of RP gamers do with weapons, for example.

Rolig, when I try to attach anything from a HUD, the user always has to give permission via a permission request. Since you were mentioning this possability, have you seen any way arround this limitation? Many people overlook the permission request boxes and then say that the HUD is broken...

Also the experience keys will come out of beta soon. With the experience permissions system, it will be possible to attach objects (and possibly clothing) without asking for permission all the time. As plans are now, an experience key will cost extra money (fee per key per month), so it can only be used by people with payment info on file, and abusing it (clothing is a very sensitive subject...) will not be taken lightly by the Lab.

No, you're right.  Without using Experience tools, a script has to ask for explicit permission to attach an object.  If the user ignores the permission box, she's out of luck. It can be an annoying limitation, but it helps avoid some nasty griefer exploits.  That's one of the reasons why the Experience system has been in beta so long.

Experience tools do make forced attachment (and detachment) possible.  If you are designing a game in which players need a HUD, it's very handy to be able to attach the HUD automatically the instant a player enters the game area.  If your game has a "no weapons in the bar" rule, it's great to be able to force all weapons to detach the instant a player walks into the bar. Visit Linden Realms or any of the recent special areas that Linden Lab has created (the Halloween tour, for example) to see how Experience tools work.  Experience tools have the potential of making many parts of SL more natural and realistic, provided that there are safeguards to discourage abuse.
