If you use the Firestorm viewer, you can adjust the size of some writing in Preferences >>> Chat .  Those controls are not available in the Linden Lab V3 viewer, but you can make the same adjustments with Debug Settings in your Advanced menu (CTRL + Alt + D).  Look for the two debug settings called ChatConsoleFontSize and ChatFontSize.  Those will change the font size in chat and in some of the floater windows, but not everything.

This is because of your screen resolution. A good graphics card will allow for a high resolution, making things very small but allowing for more overall space to work in.

Right click on your desktop and click "Screen Resolution". You can adjust it there. You can even click the link at the bottom that says "Make text and other items larger or smaller" which helps. Try 150% or 175%.

The "official" viewer has and also had in the past the ability to set the font size of the chat to small, middle and large. Also at the tab "Chat".

You can also set the size of the UI to a bigger one... try 1.05 or 1.10. Thats done at the tab advanced "UI size"
