They should provide a link, a SLURL to it. That you can click and Teleport to the land then. Many have also an office you can go or even need to go to to pay the rent. Everyone has their own way. Compare carefully the offers and take alook at the estate, how long has it been around, what say other renters about them... Many people buy one or more full regions from Linden Lab and set up a "private estate."  In fact, about 75% of the land in SL is private estates.  The estate owner will then divide up her land and rent parcels to other people (it may be called "buying", but the estate owner still owns the region your land is on, so it's really best to think of it as a form of renting.)

Renting a parcel of land from an estate owner can be a very enjoyable way to have a home or business in Second Life.  Just be sure to choose an estate owner who's been in business a while, and be sure to read and understand the estate's Covenant before you pay any money.
