It wasn't until I took out my religion that I was able to go places.

If by religion you mean region, AKA sim, you can use one of these ways:

1. Use a landmark for places you have been you wish to return to, which are given out at many places or you can make your own by going to WORLD menu
2. Use search places or the destination guide and when you find a place, just hit the teleport button
3. Open your map and type in the region name and coordinates, or just look around and click on the map where you want to go and hit the teleport button.
