how do i talk to friends? my computer shut down and i dont want him to think i ditched him

It's pretty hard without a computer.  Unless you have a phone number or a snail mail address so you can send your friend a postcard, I think you're out of luck.  If he's a good friend, he'll wait until you return.

EDIT: Hey... wait a sec ...... If your computer shut down, how are you asking this question?  If you can get this far, send him a personal message here in the forums.  Or ... if you've had IMs forwarded to e-mail, look for one from your friend and send him a reply by e-mail.  So long as you reply within 5 days of the time he sent his IM, the return address in world will still be valid.

You can log back in and send him an IM.  If you are set up to receive IMs offline in email, look for a note from him, and then reply the same way.

There are viewers like Pocket Metaverse (iPhone) and Lumiya (Android) that will let you log in and send IMs from your smart phone.

Most people are aware that Crashes Happen, so don't be too worried.
