Question

upon logging in and letting the graphics load, its sort of  iffy..so to SAY. the graphics can be loading al an dwell, then look at that! my avitar is a white mist-like ball. i ahve set my graphics on my laptop as it is a new one bought just before the new year of 2014, and i know is well over compatable as it carries windows 8.1 and has many high graphi gaming features. the reason i am sure of this is because just the day before yesterday i joined and was able to see my avitar and now i cant. so  my question is how to be able to see my avitar and not this white mist of a ball floating around?!

Hi Bree,

It sounds like you are having a "bake fail" problem. Here's some information that may help...

http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/phoenix:bake_fail

Note that the "Rebake" command (Ctrl-Alt-R) no longer exists, so skip any reference to it.

If this doesn't help, come back and edit your question via "Options" over there on the right.

Good luck!

Your computer may be fine for SL, but your Internet connection may not be reliable enough.  Everyone has that cloudy appearance for a few seconds as we log on.  That's because the servers need to download and refresh your Inventory before they can tend to downloading your appearance.  Until the inventory is fully downloaded, you're a cloud.  So, if your connection is weak or flaky, it can take a while or you can get stuck.  It's not a matter of bandwidth, but stability and reliability.  If you have local interference -- as is quite possible if you're using wireless -- your download can be corrupted.  If there are spikes of slow activity -- competition with other data-heavy tasks, for example -- the download can time out before it completes.

Follow the suggestions that Maddy gave you for recovering from this bake fail.  They work for most people.  If you continue to have the problem, pay attention to your router/modem/cable connections and get off wireless.
