I noticed that since this morning, sl is responding extremely slow. Half my invent won't load, says I'm typing when I'm not, AO stops then starts again, when walking I do the well known slide instead of taking actual steps etc. Some of my friends have exactly the same issues so anyone else experiencing this as well?

yes. Had the same issues (or many of them) last night when I was on. I'm sure it's something LL is doing. It'll fix itself, just be patient.

ah well ..That was not just me then ....

i saw my packet loss rate jump from 0 till around 120 % in one time, and this all along the day... while my fps and ping time were the usual and the bandwith was close to 0 (not the one i have settled but the one said in the statistic window)

Every tp was a pain, and mostly failed. Posting pics in my feed was almost impossible, and of course, not to mention the huge lag.

All this could be a poor connection, rather than a fault at SL. It's sometimes hard to tell. And the pattern of internet traffic generated by SL can be different enough to make tests misleading.

The usual advice from LL support is to reboot your computer and router, but doing that disconnects you if you're using Live Chat, which can be frustrating. It can be a long time to reconnect. So try that before you try LL Support,

yes it is extremely bad today,,,, and no its not your connection it is SL because many avatars from all over are experiencing the same,,, with each progressed step comes two backward ones.

I am on cable, 120mb download and 5 mb upload,,, more than enough for this game and I have stayed a cloud most of the day,,, listening to people whining,,, so it is not your connection,,, SL servers are running at half power more like.

I hate "Me Too" posts but....

ME TOO!!

I've had packet loss around 30-35% all day until about 30 minutes ago when it started to drop.  Last check it was 12%.  Sim ping was up from its usual 180ms, which is OK for the UK, to around 300ms which is NOT OK!

I have to hope that it will go away soon, I cannot even TP reliably, and Yes, I checked everything and rebooted my modem etc.

I noticed something very interesting about the tracert hops - it looks like above.net uses standard airport identification codes for their hubs. The codes are (intentionally) very distinctive and they seem to be following the logical path from Europe to Texas. Assuming that's correct, here's where each hop is "landing":

The problem seems to be in the transatlantic connection. I'm not seeing any problems from the central US.

its already a challenge for me to read english.... but reading and understanding this serie of numbers.... no.. im afraid this challenge wont be possible for me.

*giggles*

Could you please give some explanations about that ?

Simply said: atlantic connections went to hell and causing issues because of the choked connection

Yesterday with speedtest.net i had 5 to 6Mbps to the US east coast from holland, now it`s double that speed reaching 15Mbps, inside europe from the bottom tip of italy, i have a stead 50-55

Ofcourse there is a catch with speedtest.net, it all depends of wich host you use as some times there are several in one location but the speeds can different alot

We need more transatlantic cables as the predictions are becoming true :matte-motes-dont-cry:

Thank you Alicia.... now its more clear for me.... i understand ... Yay !!!!

and i remember that its not the first time such things are happening.

And I am seeing an OK transatlantic connectionm but serious problems building up nearer DFW

Some of the lost packets I've had reported on my internet connection would be old enough to vote by now. Why is it that I lose more packets talking to SL than I do to the whole rest of the planet? I had a better connection than this in the days of dial-up modems. I do tests. I have a good connection. But every time I contact support they tell me it's my fault. I'm not the one changing the [redacted[ software every [redacted[ week.

If this is customer service in modern corporate America, no wonder there are death threats.

I'll try and give a little more detail.

9 9 ms 10 ms 10 ms xe-0-2-1.cr1.ams5.nl.above.net [64.125.22.61]
Trans jump
10 * * 89 ms xe-0-2-0.cr2.lga5.us.above.net [64.125.27.185]

Each numbered line is the details for the link leading to a particular computer on the internet, usually a specialised router. Computer 0 is the one running the tracert or traceroute program

The next three numbers on the line is the time, in milliseconds, to get a reply from that computer. In line 10 you see asterisks, meaning that there was no reply. This is a low priority test, so the asterisks might mean the router is ignoring the specific test signals

Next comes the domain name. These particular ones are complicated, but the last four elements tell you something about where the routers are. "ams5" is somewhere near Amsterdam, "nl" is the ISO code for the Netherlands, and "above.net" is the operating company. And the appearance of "us" tells you that line 10 is the transatlantic link. "lga" and "ams" happen to be standard codes for particular airports and it suggests the routers are somewhere near those airports

Now, the difference between 10 ms and 89 ms is pretty good for a transatlantic link. It's the dropped packets that are the warning sign.

Because the communication with the rest of the world is almost all one-way. You're only uploading a handful of bytes every so often when you change a web page or fill out a form. SL, on the other hand, needs you to update your location constantly and, with pre-SSA, you had to upload textures that are a lot bigger than you'd think. ADSL sells you on their downoad speeds but and they hope you don't pay much attention to their upload speed or quality because most people will never realize how bad it is. Like I said before, this past week I saw my connection problems disappear simply by moving somewhere with better internet service.

Was that an answer to a rhetorical question?

Moving house to get a better internet connection so as to connect to SL is such a wonderful solution. I shall try your remedy forthwith.

Might work better than complaining to people a few thousand miles away from where the problem lies.

Unless more people come with the same issue and life a few thousand miles across the big pond to pinpoint it to above.net again as they are clearly less then a handfull of hops from the LL farm

But that would make sense....
