login failed on website and viewer

I cannot log into my main avatar/character either on the website nor the Second Life viewer nor the Phoenix Viewer. The error messages is: Login failed. Sorry! We couldn't log you in. Please make sure  you've entered the correct username and password and your caps lock is off.

I am able to log into a secondary avatar/character with no trouble on the website and in both viewers.

I've tried restarting my computer, changing my start area, sending my main a message and an item from my secondary avatar (and I get the message that my main is, indeed, not logged in).

Please help.

Double check your spelling. If the password is auto filled, erase it and type it in yourself.

If you are SURE that you are entering the correct user name and password, then it is possible that your account has been hijacked, most likely due to your falling for a phishing scam's phony sign in page.
