Very good question.  The standard solution works for most people.  Clear your cached inventory from your hard drive and force the viewer to download a fresh copy from Linden Lab's servers.  Don't just use the Clear Cache button in Preferences, though.  Do it right >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear

Do as Rolig advised. Please note that the referenced article is for the Firestorm viewer. If you are using the official viewer, you have to replace "Firestorm" with "SecondLife" in the folder names!
