I have tried advertising with various groups in SL to find dancers interested in working on a new project and haven't had much luck. There are a LOT of dance troupes. Is everyone intereted in dancing already in a dance troupe? I'm not actually starting a dance troupe, it's a club now and I'm planning to open a theater for shows once, perhaps twice a month to start.

Eclectricity Dinner Theater is casting both principal dancers and chorus line members for upcoming shows.

Principal dancers are required to have satisfactory dances and their own dance HUD. These dancers will be creating their own choreography to songs already selected for the shows or songs you select that fit the show. If you are new to choreography, we can provide training for the right person.

Chorus dancers will just dance and look fabulous!

As a principal dancer you must be willing to collaborate when necessary, but definitely in charge of your own routine. Principal dancers will also play roles and will copy/paste their lines in local chat.

These shows promises to be a lot of fun!

Please contact Isabelle Mavendorf for more information. Or search Eclectricity and TP to the club. The theater is upstairs. Join the staff group if you are interested.

Not that kind of dancing! I'm talking about theater and choreography. I'm looking for people who want to create performances in SL, not jump on a pole and emote. I can see pole dancers becoming escorts if they're just looking for money, but I'm not talking about those dancers. When I ask "where have all the dancers gone," I don't mean pole dancers or strippers.

Unfortunately most people just aren't interested if there isn't a monetary benefit involved. While its fun, most people just don't know that. People enjoy getting lindens, so unless you promote that you're offering a nice bit of lindens they can "Dance" somewhere else and get lindens.

(This is completely opinion based, in no way am I speaking for others. Just what I think ^.^)

Not all dancers on a pole are looking for money. Some like the attention. One of the female dancers I talk to does it because she feels ugly in rl and on sl she is beautiful so thats why she does it. its a hobbie for some. Do you realize those dances dont really make money.. Sorry if I seem testy. I have an issue with people down grading other people.

Anyway I am interested in your theater. IM me inworld. Sephina Frostbite.

To everyone,

I did not mean to disparage pole dancers, strippers, or anyone who is trying to make lindens in SL. I read my post again and it certainly sounded that way. My original post was more of a rhetorical question in the hope to attract people interested in SL dance as an art form. My apologizes if I offended anyone.

I've been advertising for dancers and choreographers all over SL, so I thought I'd try something different.  If things go well, there may certainly be paying positions (or at the very least, a share in the house tips).

I'll keep looking:matte-motes-bashful-cute:

But...you know...please contact Isabelle Mavendorf if you would like to know more. Okay?

Warm regards to you all.

  • 1 year later...

Isabelle,

My name is Ruth.   I am very interested in your dancing choreography!!!. I have been a professional dancer performing in US and Germany for the past 8 years. I danced with Sidi Larbi at the Deutsch Oper here in Berlin.

I am now in a Masters Program in Visual Media and Anthropology at Freie Universitaet in Berlin. I am doing a research project on dance and choreography in 2L and would LOVE to interview you and find out more about your process and experience.  I am actually making my own machinima about this. I am looking at the difference between choreographing in real life and second life. My paper is due really soon and so this is why I am contacting you so much. I

Here is my web page with my own dancing in real life videos that I have made. I REALLY REALLY hope to hear from you. It would help me so much to talk. I hope you have a wonderful day. Keep creating!

you can find me as well on vimeo. I have followed you and the Serendipity dancers!!!

Any avatar can go AFK on a pose ball. I'm not sure why you need people who consider being AFK on a poseball a profession... but I am surprised you're having trouble finding them.

We can't individually move our limbs in SL as is possible in RL. Its all premade animations on scripted timers - the avatar just moves according to a motion capture of some real life person, or the dial settings someone has entered into Daz3D / Poser.

The Machinema composition one makes from that might be something if done well - but the avatars themselves are just 3D objects cycling automated programs.
