Question

I want to set up a profitable business that generates Real Life Dollars.  But  Linden Labs has informed me that I am not allowed to make more than 9 Dollars a month. Is that true?  Why would anyone start a business in SL if they can only make 9 dollars a month?  I've read about people making tens of thousands of real Life dollars. Are those days over?  Can anyone tell me what I have to do in order to be allowed to make an viable income?  I want to generate several hundred dollars a month.

Thanks

Not sure where you read 9 dollars. It's not true.

As shown in the graph provided, there are some limits on transactions for a short term, to deter fraud, and L$ theft.

There is a Discussion Category here at the Forum, discussing how to make money in SL, is a popular topic. You could create a thread in General Discussions.

You need a product or service people want, and you then need to provide that product or service to the people.

There are many ways to do that.

My advice to make a virtual good, like clothing, or other object, and sell it on MP. Then do that, 299 times.

There are three types of businesses in SL, and any one of them CAN make money for you...but (like Real Life businesses) most do not.  It takes hard work, creative skills, and business acumen to succeed.

The three types are:

Services.  This can be personal services, such as escorting, or other services such as DJing, estate management, etc.

Content creation.  Learn how to make clothes, vehicles, pets, plants, furniture, hair...anything -- as long as it's original and of good quality.  You must be skilled in the Second Life building tools as well as some third party software, e.g., GIMP or Photoshop.

Land Baron.  This one requires somewhat less creative skill, but does require startup capital to buy land.  You then either rent it out to other residents, or attempt to sell it at a profit.  Very risky, especially in today's SL land market.

My advice is NOT to start an SL business if your primary reason for doing so is to make money.  It's much easier to make money in Real Life than in Second Life.  But, if there is something that you love doing for its own sake...then go ahead!  You may or may not be a financial success, but at least you'll have fun along the way.
