This is why I wish we could have a "avatar metadata" appearance type that allows us to store arbitrary data about our avatar, such as gender, apparent age, species/race, etc, that LSL could access via some function like llGetAvatarMetadata(key avatar, string kvName);

SL is user generation driven. Write a standard, drop it in a scripted invisible cube or if you are creative in a HUD and make ask creators to adopt it.
