If it's connected to an actual bank account, yes.

If it's a pre-paid debit card... some are rumored to work, while others don't.

Mine works.........and has for about 2 years (since I closed my CC which was associated with SL before that).

Depends where you are in the world, what currency you want to pay with, your star-sign and the particular colour of socks worn by most Lindens today.  Well ok, it depends mostly on where you are.  LL do may it more difficult to pay them than almost any other company I know though.  It psychs you up to do battle with everything that doesn't work in SL itself.

I use a GreenDot prepaid Visa and it works fine. You have to  provide a name and adress to open the account. I think that is the difference.
