As a new resident, starting with a Linden Home is probably a good idea. Once you learn your way around, you can abandon your home and find a small plot of land somewhere on the mainland. You are free to swap Linden Homes to your heart's content, either to get a change of decor, scenery or neighbors.

Second Life has a hell of a learning curve, so be patient. We're worth it!
