if i were you i wouldn't buy at a auction at all, unless you want a real specific parcel.

The land in the search is a lot cheaper.

If you'r going to buy or rent is something you have to decide yourself. There are a few landlord offering very reasonable prices for mainland rentals. Rentals mostly are a bit more expensive than owning it yourself..but thats not a lot.

But if you going to rent... a premium account is not needed, and will only rise your monthly costs.

Hi Arcano!

Land in Second Life is a very complex subject.  It's easy to make a mistake.  Please be sure to read these articles before you make a purchase:

https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Buying-land/ta-p/700043

https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Renting-land-from-other-Residents/ta-p/1420695

Perhaps the easiest way to start out is to get a Linden Home.  This is a free benefit of your Premium membership.  If you want more land, or Adult-rated land, or just don't like the Linden Home options, you can buy a Mainland parcel from another resident, or buy one through the Auction process.

If you own more than 512 square meters of Mainland, you will pay a monthly fee for it, commonly called "tier."  The amount you pay depends on how much Mainland you own.

If you rent Mainland from another resident, or lease land on a Private Estate, you may pay weekly or monthly, depending on the owner's policy.  You don't need a Premium membership in this case.

I teach a class on Second Life land.  It's on Fridays, at 5 pm SL Time, at Caledon Oxbridge University.  It's free for anyone.  Maybe I'll see you there next week!
