Can I mass create 200+ accounts for my students in a general closed island?

Our school is planning to create virtual classrooms in a general closed island, our targe is to serve 200-300 teenage students. Is there any facility or service to do this once we have buy a private island?

You can do it, but it takes a lot of advanced planning and coordination with LL.  In order to combat mass registration by potential griefers, LL limits the number of accounts that can be created from the same IP address.  To get around that, you have to request that your IP addresses be whitelisted with LL.  LL issued the following description in 2009, but I don't believe that it has changed since then:

"Linden Lab limits individual users from creating more than 5 accounts from any one IP address, primarily as a feature to discourage misuse of the service. However, we do often encounter educators or other users who wish to create large numbers of accounts for legitimate purposes, and in that instance we have two options to offer: The first requires a certain technical know-how on the part of the resident making the request, and that is to take part in our RegAPIBeta. This program allows high-volume account registrars to customize the registration process for their users and direct their new residents to a specific island that they own. If your university is considering having a large presence in Second Life, this might be the way to go. The second option is to clear the IPs used in your classroom/lab to register multiple students. This is less efficient in many ways, because if your IP addresses change, the process would have to be repeated for the new ones. Basically, we manually flag your addresses as "legitimate" and that circumvents the error message that too many accounts have been created. You can find your IP at www.whatismyip.com. To set this up for your IP address, submit the following information in a support ticket: (1) name of institution and RL name of requester, (2) SL account name making request, (3) IP address to be added (or a range, to the last set of decimals. Once added, the clearance will last for six months, so if you are still creating new accounts at the end of that time, you will need to submit a new ticket (don't reopen the old one) with the same information. Please allow 5 business days for processing."

I addition to Roligs great answer, bear in mind that sims have a limit to the number of avatars that can be there at any one time. The default is set to 40 because that is around the number you can have there before you start suffering too badly from lag. Private estates can change the limit up to 100, but you only need to visit an event with more than 60 people attending it to see how horrendous 100 would be.  You can improve the lag to accomodate more avatars by low lag building and keeping control over scripts (especially those worn by the avatars).

With reagards to the registration API, someone posted recently about applying for that and getting no response and there was some question about whether or not it still exists or has been updated, since the introduction or single name IDs, so you might want to check that out with LL.

You don`t mention the age of your students, if they are 13-15, they will need to be in SL under the sponsorship scheme. I would recommend emailing your questions to terrence@lindenlab.com as he is in charge of matters relating to teens in SL and would probably have all the answers you need.
