You seem to have an unreliable Internet connection.   Bandwidth is rarely an issue, because Second Life really doesn't use that much bandwidth.  However, if you are losing data packets or if you have blockage somewhere along the pipeline between your computer and the SL servers, SL simply won't work.  Unlike web broswing, e-mail, and most on-line games, SL streams data back and forth continuously.  Data corruption or a delay of more than about 150 msec will break the connection.

The most common problems are:

A firewall or anitvirus program blocking access to Second Life.  (See https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539  and  http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/antivirus_whitelisting )

A flaky router or modem.  (Try rebooting both by unplugging them from the power for a few minutes and then restarting everything.  In the worst case -- I had to do this last week -- you may need to replace one of them or the other.)

Unreliable DNS server routing.  (See http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=dns_fail)

You can read about other less common issues at http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/login_fail   or   https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Login-failure/ta-p/700109

Sounds like you are either trying to log into a region that is offline, or you have internet connection problems.  First, try logging in to a different location.  If that fails, try the suggestions here:  https://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539
