  2. Thank you, all, for your excellent feedback. Apologies in advance then for "spamming" this forum with a few parcels available that fall into both categories. Cheers.
  3. Thank you so very much. Will look at yours tomorrow once I've had sleep. Really appreciate your input! Thank you again.
  4. I am about to finally list a few estate parcels the community I belong has available. We DO make a distinction between ownership and rent via benefits BUT those are community benefits. I am left wondering... what, in accordance with the Forums here, is the difference between the subforums of: Estate Land for Sale andEstate Land for Rent?Apologies for sounding so naive. Thank you for your time. Cheers.

  7. Thank you, Miss. I may well contact you if I cannot find precisely what I am looking for. Thank you again. Cheers.
  8. Greetings. Thank you for your reply. Essentially something to record who visits, when and how long they hang about. If some sort of a daily report could be given, that would be ideal. Thank you again.
  9. My colleague is in need of a land tracker to track visitors for basics such as who visits, when, and perhaps how long they stay etc. I've no experience with such things other than to know that there are a few out there that function horribly. Is there something that is low lag, not invasive etc.? Thank you kindly.
  10. I thought PE was fairly self-explanatory myself and do not understand why the change to LI (one would think newcomers will be able to grasp, more quickly, the meaning behind PE over LI). This announcement from LL heralds only new verbiage, does not change the math behind the PE/LI. In the end, all we really care about is how many "prims" an item will use while on our land. prims = PE = LI; why not use PE which uses the key word, "prim"? Ahhh well. Perhaps LL is shifting the language and this is the beginning? Or will they be changing even more besides? As an aside, I was rather hoping for an announcement from LL with more reasonable and encouraging math algorithims behind the prim calculation. Time will tell.
  11. LL had to do something with those numerous servers sitting idle from months of estate owners just dumping their sims. The real money (for LL) is the monthly tier. Those servers are already paid for, and only requiring new landholders. I would be curious to know how many people buy in and keep (for more than a few months) these "free" sims.

Elric, please, I am simple folk. You can refer to me as Storm. Simple? Indeed... not. At least there is nothing simple about a good cocktail. Oh and would you look at that time... almost 5:00 PM here.
  13. Mr. Clarence's appearance at this juncture in this thread is quite apropos. Thank you, Sir, for making me smile and chuckle.
  14. I think perhaps you hit on the main reason for the trend, Miss Avalon... as time has marched on, there have been more and more reasons for creators to "believe" they need to produce items no mod. In the old Wild West days it was more about "buy and play". Over time business became more serious but also quite misunderstood as to what customers wanted. As an aside, I feel creators should spend some time as consumers before selling their wares. Thank you for your insights.
  15. Oh well, collectibles, agreed, should be no mod. Again, that's not the issue and I will go back and re-edit my original post again. LOL
  16. I really should have been more clear. Apologies. I never expect scripts in an item to be mod. However, if I wish to retint or retexture an aspect of a creation, I'd like to be able to, so that it "looks" better with the overall image attempting to be projected. I've been in SL since early 2007 and it seemed to me back then most items were mod to permit such modification. Now, it appears that it's near impossible to find mod items or requests for mod items to be taken at face value (i.e. no malicious intent). Thusly, I'm wondering if there is some curious trend or incident I missed in my absence. PS: *facepalms at lack of spell check with subject heading and dies of embarassment*
  17. Yes, I do feel bad for causing confusion. Given my physical disabilities, yet a desire to tinker and build, I NEED component creators and have always respected the logical permissions set by component creators. /me offers up some delectable popcorn seasoning.
  18. No mod sculpt maps are definitely not questioned by myself. I purchase numerous sculpt maps and don't care one whit whether they are mod or no. My question, and I apologize, pertains to FINISHED PRODUCTS (i.e. vehicles, weapons, items, clothing, accessories etc.). Items used for building/creating are NOT in question here. THIS, as a creator who relies on amazing component creators such as yourself, I understand why no mod. Cheers.
  19. As a consumer, I need mod clothing as I spend much of my time in my fox avatar with digi legs -- no mod trousers are an issue. Azriel Demain of Falln kindly gifted me with an invisi prim to deal with this issue, however, it is not always suitable. As mentioned here already, there are many reasons why trouser or shirt lengths need adjusting to suit various avatars. As a creator of furniture, yes, I've had the odd customer "break" a furnishing but then I flip them a replacement and we have a laugh over this. There is a concept in business that states "make it as easy as possible for customers to do business with you". I'd sooner exert a little more energy to keep a customer happy than blow off potential customers. As for why vehicles or weapons etc. might need to be mod? A little colour tint here, or a slight texture swap there... all to work better with the environment or ensemble. As said in this thread already, isn't a creation more attractive if it actually really looks good? I digress... the last thing I really want to do is debate overmuch, but I truly appreciate the opportunity to understand this trend that I cannot wrap my brain around. Thank you for your responses, truly!
  20. Greetings. After an absence of about 8 months I have returned to SL. At the time of my departure, many creators were setting their items to no mod under the guise of copybotting fears (of course, this doesn't prevent copybotting). Now that I've returned I notice that MOST items (vehicles, weapons, clothes, buildings etc.) are NO MOD. I won't rehash the "resizing scripts are good enough vs not good enough" argument or the "this is my creation, my vision, like it or don't buy it" stance. I don't wish to spark a debate here. The point is that when you are trying to create a look (whether with your avatar or on your land), little tweaks to purchased items can make all the difference. My first few years in SL seemed to provide more mod items, and flexibile creators. Now, when contacting creators to ask for a mod version (with an explanation why), I am met with "NO". I would think in our current economic climate that some money would be welcome over NONE. So in all seriousness, can this trend towards NO MOD be explained to me? I'd appreciate any and all speculation. Thank you kindly. Cheers. ETA: This question pertains to FINISHED and FINAL products for sale -- not components used in item creation, and certainly not scripts. ETAA: This question also does not pertain to collectibles, hunt items, freebies or similar items.
  21. While I do not typically "defend" others in venues such as this, I did agree with the broad statement Miss Paperdoll made that those seriously wishing to invest in anything (especially SL) are best armed with knowledge on the subject in order to conduct appropriate research to determine ROI (inviting responses in a forum will provide only skewed results). Due to SL's wildly fluctuating nature, even speculators have withdrawn serious commitment of their energies. Having said all of that, the media and old articles still circulating would lead one to believe that there was money to be made in SL. Hence the regular posts such as yours, Staralien, and perhaps the somewhat jaded responses such posts engender. Please understand that such responses are not solely borne in frustration but for myself, at least, a desire to NOT see others delude themselves and to actually ENJOY SL. SL is a beautiful place we all wish to share the joys of. However, in a more specific answer to your original query: I am wondering if it is worth investing my money in SL. SL economy has improved slightly, but will it continue to improve over time? Yes and then it will decline again. SL economy fluctuates very rapidly. I've been here since early 2007, the tail end of the big boom, and then watched a slow decline with smaller upswings and then downswings. Where it goes from here, truly, only time will tell but such speculation should not be seen as a basis for investment. Can a new business and land owner become successful? That depends on your definition of success. Providing specifics, desired ROI, current skill sets etc. will invite more specific answers. However, in general, any business venture in SL requires diligent commitment, effort, skill and time if some profits are desired. There is far more land available than people to live on them. The concierge chat is replete with estate owners dumping their sims because they simply cannot afford to maintain them. Yes, there are those who are "successful" but they bought when sim prices were "sane" and have grandfathered rates. They also work very hard. Judging by some of the posts I have read, grievers can ruin land, business, etc, and how do you avoid that happening to you? Griefers can be a problem, but reporting, having admin staff on hand at all times to contend with griefers etc. handles most such situations. An ounce of prevention and all that -- in other words, do not invite griefing inadvertently by maintaining contentious environments, attitudes etc. The only option for me at this time is to buy on the mainland as I can't afford a whole region of my own. How would one go about finding land that doesn't have a lot of lag, as lag would make it difficult to conduct business? See my first response. On a final note, I hope you find some time to simply enjoy SL, get to know others and the "lay of the land" so to speak. After a time you will have accumulated the information necessary to ask these questions again and have a better understanding. Also, if you are serious about getting into the land game, be a renter for a while to learn that side and what people desire from a landlord. Good luck. Cheers.
  22. Well said, Miss Paperdoll, well said.
  23. I'm sure others will chime in far more eloquently than I, but SL is not a safe investment. You'd be better off playing the markets in RL or working a regular job. However, SL is very enjoyable as a hobby or interface. Finding low lag regions on mainland is near impossible as your neighbours change all the time. You never know who you will share a sim with. Consider buying a homestead sim for your enjoyment and business. However, again, I caution that any money put into SL to purchase land (be it homestead, full sim, mainlaind) will unlikely be recouped. All you need do is keep a watchful eye on sims for sale and bargains are always there to be had by those dumping land. So I would suggest just enjoying SL for what it is. My two cents! Cheers.
  24. Greetings: I have been largely absent from SL for the last 8 months due to RL obligations. I am part owner and actively involved in a 7 sim estate region (and it will not grow past 7 estates). It's not run as a business and is more of a community. The core group of us have been together in land ownership since 2007. After several years on the Grid, we actually have a couple vacancies. Therefore, I would like to "advertise" these vacancies here (if that is the correct thing to do). MY QUESTIONS: Are there any protocols to follow with respect to advertising/posting frequencies, information that IS a must, etc.? In other words, I do not wish to be a nuisance, but we would like to find a few new co-owners who have the same ideals as the residents of our small community. Suggestions, advice? Thank you kindly in advance. Have a delightful day. Elric (who has no idea what his signature block says these days and will shortly find out)
