Mickey Vandeverre wrote:ok, well the title of the club smacks of pretentiousness. but that may just be my interpretation.not sure if that's what you're going for or not...and not sure if it is roleplaying or not...if it is roleplaying...then probably need to step it up a notch.but that would carry across forum and inworld.and probably already has...based on my own interactions in another thread.there is also an air of exclusivity possibly....which is a bit uncomfortable to see in a making friends forum. caught that when I saw someone I like get peed on when diving into another thread.you might want to be clear on whether it is roleplay or not.
Mickey, it is not RP, other than the RP that is inherent in SL (meaning we mostly don't look exactly like our avatars). I suppose the title is pretentious if for no other reason that it reminds you of the kind of ladies who are 'ladies who lunch': vain, self-absorbed, etc. In fact it was just a humorous idea Keli came up with.
As for exclusivity, I do think an invitation is required to join the group; if so then I guess there is some exclusivity. Not much—I'm in it, as is Dresden (who would not be a lady even if he was female)—but maybe some.
Your reference to what happened in another thread probably is due to some history. For whatever reason at least some individuals find this group a terrible blight on the Forums, if not SL in general. I suppose it has to do with the fact we do little except yak with each other and post pictures. Not exactly world-saving stuff. Because of that there have been a number of relatively negative if not outright nasty comments posted not just in this thread but elsewhere.
Most of us (hard look at Dee) are doing our best to ignore all that. We did a rather poor job of that earlier but we're getting better at it.
We have, to the best of my knowledge, never sat down to lunch. We do snack from time to time while we're dancing or stomping grapes.

Hiya, Hippie, and all :-). I don't get in here as often as I should but it's nice seeing the door open whenever I pass by on my travels through the Forums. I know I can always duck in here and find good company. Plus a lot of funny lolcats :-).
Peace to you too.

Thanks. If I ever get to London I'll look it up. Seems like everytime I get inworld these days I'm supposed to be somewhere so my exploring time isn't what it used to be,

Madelaine, I am so glad that you have decided to grace the forum and moved beyond words that you chose to start here.
Thank you.

This week saw the passing of three people who had a lot to do with a style of music that was once called Rhythm and Blues. First came the news that Nick Ashford had died in New York. He wrote or co-wrote a lot of very popular songs; his most famous was 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough'. Nick Ashford
The next day brought the news that Jerry Leiber had died in Los Angeles. He was also a songwriter and co-wrote some great songs with his writing partner Mike Stoller. The article lists a great many of their songs but I didn't see a reference to one of my favorite songs of all time: they co-wrote, with Ben E. King, 'Stand By Me'. Jerry Leiber
And now today I see an article about someone I'd actually never heard of but who was also a tremendous influence: Esther Gordy Edwards. Her brother, Berry Gordy, founded the Motown label and she worked with or for Motown for decades. Esther Gordy Edwards
I planned on putting this in the Entertainment Forum but I guess that went away, so I put it here instead. I just wanted to suggest that any of you DJ's might want to inject a little old-fashioned R&B into your playlists this weekend. That is, those of you who have electricity and internet access—I wish all of you on the East Coast a safe weekend.

Cinn, it was nice to meet you, too :-). I can't imagine where you came up with 'slightly naughty', but maybe we were just having a quiet night. Normally there would be no adjective.

Void Singer wrote:your first one always takes you by surprise.... the only bad thing about them on the east coast is that they don't build with them in mind, so even little ones can cause a lot of damage.
I know what you mean about building styles. I spent a few days in Reading, PA in the early nineties and seeing all the unreinforced masonry buildings freaked ME out. I always walked well out on the sidewalk.

I never trust an earthquake. Whatever it tells you, don't believe a word of it.I just want to make it pefectly clear that I did not reply to this comment saying anything about anyone being on shaky ground. I didn't.

Craton? A large, sometimes really large, rock formation that is a single unit—no fault lines, no multiple layers. There's a massive one in North America called the Canadian Shield.

Well, I think also it might have been a 'first' for a lot of people, and as you said: that's scary. The Earth is not supposed to move. And any quake over about a 4.0 will get your attention depending upon the geology and the distance. I'm not surprised there's a lot of comment.

1) Are you a LWL? (Lady with Lists)Overlooking some possible disqualifiers, yes
2) If not how do you keep track of things?See above
3) Do you use your phone to make lists? You can do that? I use my phone to make phone calls.
4) Do you use your computer to make lists? Yes
5) Do you use some form of handwritten list. That, too.
6) Do you make the list or do other people make them for you?Well, I do have someone that sometimes makes me a list to help me plan my day on the weekends. But usually I make my own.
7) Do you think this list is too long? Oh, not at all. As has been noted, you were too brief. Or maybe too short.

It is pitch black.
ETA: Even with my VERY limited knowledge of German that sentence alone would have been a challenge, I think. Very odd structure.

Wow! 64K at $595? No WONDER that became the standard. I probably shouldn't mention this but unless the mice got it there's a Trash80 in one of the storage sheds. Friend asked me to look at it; keyboard probs as I recall.

This has nothing whatever to do with the topic or even your post. But the first thing I thought of when I looked at the picture (okay the second thing: first thing was 'nice wheels') was the movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy". I need to see that again now :-)

I don't watch a whole lot of TV and I hadn't seen that. I am not a big fan of advertising and I am not at ALL a big fan of chain stores (I remember when the hardware store and the bookstore and all were just stores in your town) but I have to admit that's really nice. Sometimes they get it just right. There was a series of radio advertisments that aired in my part of the country several years back for S&W canned goods. Mr. S and Mr. W. They were far and away the most brilliant and charming radio commercials I've ever heard.
Getting back to animals...one of the local SPCA's (I forget which county) for a while ran an ad to promote pet adoption. Pictures of kitties and puppies with the chorus from "I Want to Know What Love Is". No talking, just the animals and the song. For a lot of people (not me, of course; I'm as tough as nails) it was really hard to watch.
The chorus starts 1:36 in (if you don't know the song). I think the television commercial just used the end where they keep singing it over and over.
ETA: I wish I could find a youtube of the commercial: I'd put in that 'Songs That Make You Cry' thread.

Dresden Ceriano wrote:Oh I think it's quite therapeutic. You can get things off your chest and rant and rave and no one gets hurt. It's kind of like, yelling at someone when you're completely alone, which is something I've been know to do from time to time as well... lol.
Oh dear. I do that too. Usually in the car. Does that mean I might be as nutty as you?

Go for it. It still looks cold. And I was never going to take the Black and Tan :-).

Great work, Inspector Devin! You found her again at last. Let the pilgramages begin!

Maryanne Solo wrote:Vegemite on whole grain toast for brekkie... yummm.
Funny you should mention that. A couple of people in a club I spend time in (in SL) were talking about the relative merits of Marmite vs. Vegemite. I decided to try them both; I preferred the Vegemite. I just finally used up my first jar and bought another one Sunday. It's over EIGHT bucks! (I'd forgotten that). Is it that expensive in Australia?
My preference is a layer of peanut butter under a layer of Vegemite, rolled up in a whole wheat tortilla. Good solid food.

I'd forgotten all about that part, Keli. But I think he's a whisky drinker; the Guinness probably is just gonna sit there. And get warm.

LOL. I have a wide range of definitions for 'sappy', but the one you suggest is kind of where I was going when I applied it to that particular song.

Pamela Galli wrote:Wow there is someone else who hates "Imagine"????
'Hate' is maybe a bit too strong a word, but that is one very sappy song :-).

Actually they're both derivative rubbish who aren't even fit to lick the shoes of the late, great St Vivian Stanshall and the Bonzo Dog Band. So there ;-)Actually, I believe they were the Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band. I own one song only of theirs, "Intro Outro" but I play it a lot. My DJ friend plays their stuff every now and then but I think she has every rock and roll/rockabilly/blues tune ever recorded.

I doubt anyone thought you were joking, Dres. I know I certainly didn't. I believe the mention of humor had to do with the humorous way in which you made your point :-). I have many times been oh so happy I decided to press Cancel. Now if I could just find a way to not start one of those kinds of comments to begin with.....
